No-one has mentioned the plethora of gods and demi-gods available from the Indian sub-continent to be harvested from texts like the Bhagavad Gita. A rich set of characters and distinct imagery to pick through. Only thing I’m not sure about is their suitability for a war/battle game – although there are certainly some very bloodthirsty conflicts in their lore.
If in doubt you could always ask a NZ sheep farmer to invent a few more 😉
October 11, 2020 at 2:13 pm #1573667Mythic BAttles Games were always intended to be fully compatible with each other, so it’s a given that MB:R will be compatible with MB:P, the unique elements come from the unit cards and abilities.
In theory it does get ongoing support – there will likely be a second kickstarter at some point in the future and there will likely be a 3rd MB game as well. That’s where it’s support comes from. As a game though, it is definitely set up to be competive or at least facilitate competition, even if it doesn’t necessarily drive a collectible hobby. It’s well balanced and uses a draft system to determine your forces.
As for Egypt, it has lots and lots of Gods and they’re all really cool, often being half human and half beast – check out Anubis (Jackal), Horus (Haw) and Sekhmet (Crocodile) to name a few. But it doesn’t quite have the same mythos surrounding it that the Greek and Norse pantheons do, or if it did it is certainly not as well known. Aesthetically however it workss far better than either Roman or Celtic options as they are far to close to the existing Greek and Norse offerings and they need to do something more unique. Aesthetically Egypt definitely fits the bill, as would East Asia or South East Asia as would Meso-America. I would even venture that so would Christianity. As much as I would like to see any of these, I do think Egypt seems the most likely.

One of the most powerful Valkyrie, Brunhild had to endure Odin’s curse for carrying to death a king cherished by the Father of All Things.
Wishing to punish such arrogance, Odin plunged the Valkyrie into an eternal slumber, which would not cease until the day a brave man proved himself capable of overcoming all obstacles on the road to the enchanted Warrior Queen.
Sigurd, the courageous hero finally arrives and breaks her free. . The man and the Valkyrie fell in love with each other, to the point of exchanging marriage vows. Given the ardor of his love, Brunhild offered Sigurd her wisdom and her art of combat and strategy. But the shenanigans perpetrated by mortals led the hero to drink a few sips of an evil potion, intended to cause oblivion in the heart of the warrior. Sigurd immediately lost all memory of Brunhild, and broke his word by forgetting his oath to marry her.
The complex chain of betrayals and intrigue that followed left Brunhild little choice. She demanded that he be assassinated. But seeing the funeral pyre carrying the dead Sigurd to the afterlife, her heart filled with despair and bitterness, to the point that she threw herself into the flames as the devoured Sigurd’s remains, in order to join him. love in death.
In Mythic Battles Ragnarök, she will awaken one last time, determined to show all beings in the Nine Worlds that this time NO ONE will be able to impose their destiny on her. Neither mortals nor gods.
