July 14, 2020 at 1:46 pm #1550182I’ve been working on these for quite some time but managed to get some time over the weekend to really rush through them.
They were painted as quickly as I could to get a really decent Tabletop standard as an opponent to my Girlfriends Son’s Ultramarines and Macragge Defence force. I Started with Burnished Gold and then an Agrax/Nuln mix over the whole model. Drybrushed with Retributor and then Runefang. Edge highlights with Stormhost.
The Black is Incubi Darkness highlight over black followed by a fine line incubi/corax white.
The Flesh is Bugmans blended up to cadian then I used various Contrasts to shade and create the look to tortured and mutated painful skin
Super chuffed with them and can’#t wait to get them into action.

This Bombshell Babe mini has been languishing, half finished (I’m an optimist) on the table for over a month so I am glad to get her finished up.

Ive managed to get all my Skyrim stuff painted up.
Changing from my normal painting methods and with @warzan banging on about how amazing contrast paints are i decided to give them a go.
I bought a few inks from liquitex that @avernos suggested to use as part of the priming process (zenith). I discovered that contrast doesn’t work over a standard zenith, it needs to be a very white zenith, minimal black, for the contrast paint to work as designed. That led to some frustration with the skeletons but wasn’t hard to rectify, i just lost some detail as they’re now coated in 20 odd layers of primer paint, ink, contrast and varnish.
Overall I’m not blown away. Sure from gaming distance (aka photo distance) they look passable and when tied together with base ready mixes will work perfectly well as models but I know i can do better!
The problem here is me and my standards. The paint works (mostly) as described, although i have also noted differences in vibrancy and pigmentation etc between the colours. The browns are great, the other colours are iffy at best and need testing first. I have to admit however that by the end of this batch of minis i had managed to get to a point where models were being painted quicker than my normal speed which is a plus.
More thought is required on my part, more consideration and more playing around with the painting style but currently i dont think ill be replacing my normal methods with this one.
