Warhammer: The Old World FINALLY Gets Upgraded Marauders!
October 21, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop has released an awesome preview this week covering brand new Chaos Marauder miniatures for Warhammer: The Old World! They will come as part of a new Chaos Marauders Army Reinforcement Set alongside another of the Arcane Journals.
Chaos Marauders // Warhammer: The Old World
This brand new plastic kit (yes, plastic!) will allow you to bring your Chaos Marauders to life with updated kits that don't look quite as awkward as the old ones that have been in service for many, many years. They are all musclebound barbarians clad in furs and chainmail with shaggy beards and malicious glares in their eyes. There is a mixture of different heads for all of the Chaos Marauders, plus options to arm them with hand weapons and shields, as well as flails if you prefer.
Marauders with Flails // Warhammer: The Old World
This set comes with twenty miniatures that can be built as one large, rampaging warband, or you can break it down into two units of ten. There are also options for you to build two command elements so they can lead these regiments into battle. If you're looking for some Chaos Marauders that match the artwork that we've been seeing for years for Warhammer and now The Old World, this is a welcome addition!
I think these look great and I could see a lot of people picking up these miniatures to use in Darkoath armies in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, as well as Warhammer: The Old World. As well as the Chaos Marauders, you can also get the new Marauder Horsemen!
Marauder Horsemen // Warhammer: The Old World
This is another big new plastic set that contains ten Marauder Horsemen, which can also be built as two units of five with, again, their command group of a champion, musician and standard bearer. All of the Marauder Horsemen come with a choice of heads and can be armed with spears or flails.

If this range of miniatures has got you excited, they are going to be included as part of that new raiding party. It contains a hefty fifty miniatures, including forty Chaos Marauders and ten Marauder Horsemen. You will also get a full transfer sheet, which is packed with icons that you can use to adorn your banners.
Chaos Marauder Army // Warhammer: The Old World
This could be a great starting point for someone looking to dive into Warhammer: The Old World and the figures within should give you a solid way to start playing the Battle March mode for the game. These are games where you start out with 500 or 750-point battles using a series of restrictions which make the game quick and easy to play.
New Arcane Journal
New miniatures also mean a new Arcane Journal. Follow the rampaging passage of the Chaos Marauders from Norsca with The Razing of Westerland.
The Razing of Westerland // Warhammer: The Old World
As well as containing rules for your Marauders, this also covers the background of the Norscan and the spirits (four of them...) that they worship. You'll also be able to follow Frydaal the Chainmaker's invasion of the Westerland, rules for Cults of Chaos, Chaos Traits and the Lore of the Shadowlands. You'll also find new magical Artefacts of the Shadowlands and more to build your tribe of pillagers.
Lastly, there is also a full Path to Glory campaign where you'll be able to take a 500-point army on the warpath through the course of a series of games. You'll also find three new scenarios themed around the Marauders! As a note, you'll need The War of Settra’s Fury for the Battle March rules and Ravening Hordes for the main body of the Warriors of Chaos rules.
Are you going to be picking up these new Chaos Marauders?

Yes; these are so needed – the old ones looked like inflatable muscle men. Will be getting some!!!
Another classic kit murdered for no food reason… I can’t keep this up. I wonder if I have any left I can slap on to eBay with an “OOP” pricetag 😁
They look great, though once more I am reminded about the baffling wall GW insists on keeping up between their product lines- is this not just the same thing as the Darkoath Fellriders and Daroath Marauders but on square bases instead of circular? Did there really need separate sculpts for essentially the same thing in the two lines? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure many AoS/OW players will appreciate the chance to add some model variety to their hosts of chaos marauders, but it certainly speaks to some rather odd internal politics of some sort that are keeping the lines separated in areas where they really needn’t be.
I think the darkoath marauders have a more conan the barbarian feel whereas these are more viking like.
I wouldn’t dare to guess what office politics goes on behind the decisions GW makes, but I’m sure it is all focused on maximizing profit.
These marauders explicitly represent Norscaans….the Darkoath ‘Conan’ aesthetic marauders more closely resemble the old marauders. So I guess you could use the Darkoath to represent the Kurgan tribes while these new ones fill for the Norscans.
Still a weird choice to bind the older aesthetic to AoS while using the viking-esque barbarians solely for OW. This feels like one of those places where the ranges should absolutely be overlapping. I wonder if we’ll see similar oddities if/when OW gets around to making new sculpts for other units factions that overlap with AoS, like separate chaos warrior sculpts for AoS and OW.
well … there’s nothing stopping you from using whatever feels right for your army.
And because both are official GW kits the end result is still tournament legal, unless someone wants to go real technical and demand that you only use the dedicated range of models.
I do like the look & feel of these figures.
I just can’t help but feel annoyed reading that if I wanted to use them in the game they were designed for I’d have to buy 3 books.
The classic ‘Realm of Chaos’ books may not have much in pre-designed warbands and other bits, but instead you had a ton of inspiring images and background lore on the 4 chaos gods themselves.
It depends on how you’re playing. If you just stick to the lists from ravening hordes then that’s all you need. If you want more flavour then yes, buy more books.
Yes, there’s plenty of depth in Ravening Hordes to make a Chaos-Beastmen allied army – which would look awesome with these new Marauders. That’s my plan. I have a Chaos Lord on Manticore to lead them to give some extra killy punch.
I never liked the GW model of selling their games in bits and pieces.
There is something to be said for having army books separate from the core rules, but having separate books for different lists within the same faction ? that is consumer hostile design.
I’m pleased to see the design update finally got done. A bit disappointed that we now get something so similar to Chaos Warriors but I’m sure to get a couple of boxes.
The proportions remind me of some newer Mantic kits. Sculpting looks cleaner than Mantic.
YESSSSSSSSS….bad boys for my fantay army.
