Infinity Tabletop Analysis Episode 04 – The Space Station
November 14, 2014 by warzan
In this episode of Infinity Tabletop Analysis, we check out an awesome looking space station table, that snipers will just hate!
Let us know what you guys think, how would you use your snipers and tags on a table like this?

Ficzone, so that was filmed I suppose back in april, and put online only now, am I right? Jaws dropped :O
I haven’t played much Infinity yet, I have to wait until after Christmas before buying it. However, assuming it’s like most other games where you can select your force as you see fit, I’d probably not take any snipers. I may take stealthers and TAGs with flame or other template based weapons
You’re on the right track. Every faction in Infinity has multiple tools to deal with a table like this. Even snipers (though not ideal) won’t be useless on this table. They could still maximise their range and lock down corridors with suppression fire.
Why cant i watch these vids on the BoW site. I get some security isues humbug. On youtube its fine.. Can some one help me out. Btw im watching on ipad.
Is it just this video, just the Infinity Tabletop Analysis videos or all videos on the site?
All the frontstage video’s. I have to watch them on youtube. The backstage ones are fine
What device/browser/OS are you using?
Ipad 4, Newest IOS. Not sure wich that is at the moment. (at work).
Ios 7.1.1 safari browser
Unless a tournament takes the approach that every table should be identical in the interests of fairness, I think it’s absolutely ideal to have a mix of table themes and types. Just as a list that is dependent on a sniper (or two) is hampered by this map, so too is a list without a sniper on a relatively open map with some good high ground. I would like to think that it encourages people to build a bit more versatility into their tournament lists and perhaps it might force a player to devise a strategy based on the map rather than figuring out how to apply the standard strategy for their list to the table in front of them.
But then again, I’ve never played an Infinity tournament so what do I know? 😀
I disagree on many levels.
First, I think it’s a fine and fair test of skill to let the players build their lists to the mission and board style regardless of surprises. At a tournament, you don’t get a chance to write a list for every board type, so having some uniformity is a good thing. You have several more options in your list than just “take one of everything.”
Second, some missions just don’t work very well on certain types of boards. A game of Lifeblood or Supplies on a sparse terrain board becomes a bloodbath with disincentive to actually go after the objectives. Beacon Race would be near impossible on a map like this. In a tournament which goes 3-4 rounds with 3-4 different scenarios and totals up Objective Points, playing on that ONE table that scores low will cost you and your opponent and it will have little to do with how you build a list.
Third, a standard that is well set up, medium density and asymmetrical encourages far more diversity in lists. By making everyone prepare for every situation, you do still have the tactical element of the game, but you lose the strategic element. On a consistent, balanced board, you get both. And standard doesn’t mean identical. Each table still has its charm, its surprises, its tactical uniqueness.
But even after that, I still love this board. It would be great to play a narrative-style mission with custom objectives in.
