Afghan Plastics Coming To The Tabletop From Perry Miniatures
January 9, 2020 by brennon
Perry Miniatures has been showing off the previews for their new Afghan/North-West Frontier Tribesmen who will be popping up to oppose the British soon on the tabletop.
The range will feature a normal degree of Perry Miniature options, by which we mean...loads! It seems like you'll be able to build thirty-six Tribesmen in the set including their command element and you'll have all sorts of swords, rifles and more for you to play around with. I particularly like that as well as warriors in fighting poses we've also got that fellow at the front drawing his sword from its sheath, ready to strike down his foe.
It seems like you're going to be spoilt for choice when it comes to how you build up your Afghan forces this year as Wargames Atlantic are also planning on their own plastic kit. Maybe do a bit of mix and matching if you fancy picking from both companies?
What do you think of these previews?

Nice
Especially since these are sculpts and not renders 😉
lovely sculpts will probably pic up a box, interesting to see how these scale next to the wargames atlantic ones, could create alot of variety between the two
Wow a kit I’ve been wanting for ages from both companies.
Anyone wondering what the difference (if any between the two) it looks like Wargames Atlantic have got a wider range of Rifles including some Martini-Henry’s whereas Perry have stuck with the Jezzails which means the Wargames Atlantic covers a wider area (17th Century to about the 1890’s) while the Perry’s cover 17th Century to about the 1870’s. Hardly much of a difference.
I’ll wait to see the sprues before I decide but with all the extra stuff the Perry Twins do I might go for them instead which is a shame in a way since I really love what Wargames Atlantic are doing when they make these fringe kits.
Afghanistan is perfect for Skirmish gaming. If you want some examples I cannot strongly recommend the first Flashman book enough.
For enemies you’ve got Indian Irregulars aplenty. Plus other Afghans.
Plastic Mini wise for the Early British I would pick up the Perry Miniatures Napoleonic British, use the Stovepipe Shako’s but cut off the plume and put a little ball on instead and give them French arms from the new Napoleonic French Box with again some little tufts on the shoulders (NOT the Elite Arms) to get the Cuffs right. As far as we’re concerned the uniform was basically the same (pants were different but that’s a paint issue) although the Officers were restricted on how much extravagant gold lace they could have (Booooo!!!!). {Seriously this got utterly out of control towards the end of the Napoleonic Wars and the first half of the 19th Century with some officers having so much gold lace their uniform couldn’t be seen under it}.
For the later Period use the Perry Sudan/Afghanistan Plastics.
I agree about the choice of kits. Warlords Crimea troops might be ok for early wars but studio miniatures do a range of afghan british from the 40’s. WE need more skirmish cold weather british options.
Lovely work as ever. More Afghans into the mix. What a time to be a gamer!
(and fan of Carry on up the Khyber!)
Fabulous looking figures.
Clip the weapons off and they make good modern ish afghan male civvies. Maybe even add modern guns for taliban etc.
