Diceni 2015 Coming May 3rd With Steampunk Boudi Miniature
April 6, 2015 by brennon
Diceni is a big tabletop gaming event that happens in Norwich UK and has traders from all over coming to sell their wares and of course plenty of participation games to take part in too. As well as that they also revealed the miniature for this year is going to be Steampunk Boudi!
The model is a re-themed version of their last Boudi miniature that had more of a historical feel. That's all now out of the window with this steampunk adventurer version of her above and she looks great.
The Event
As well as the miniature there is of course the event and as you can see below on the poster it's free for people to come along and check out...
From what we've heard this is a pretty awesome convention and one worth checking out if you're in the area local to Norwich or indeed able to travel. Plus, if you can get your hands on that punky looking Boudi then you've got something awesome to paint up and use in a game of Wolsung potentially?
Will you be going?

Well that is looking really promising.
is this going to be available online??? I want this mini very badly!
Take one warrior queen who stuck two fingers up at the Roman empire.
Transform into a flimsy floozy with a Nerf Super Soaker
Use it as the icon for a big show.
Sorry but…that really does nothing for the image of the hobby.
The mini I have seen has been Sulpted by Kev White and will also be avalible from Hasslefree miniatures. Mini is excellent as is the show, its fun, it’s free and they do a lot of good work for charity and local gaming community, I’d say that’s a great image for the hobby!
anything that can raise a bit of money for a good cause gets a thumbs up in my book 😉
a very non-standard uniform?
like this one a lot 🙂 love all the steampunk gizmos 🙂
… and who says this isn’t a historically accurate depiction of Boudica ? 😛
… I’m sure they had lots of guns like that back then 😛 ha ha
Oh dear
BoW members miss the point completely.
Well done.
Good cause or not, historicity or not, neither are the problem.
And the image is still not doing any favours for the hobby.
… dude, this is like the LEAST exploitive looking female mini that’s been posted on this site in months 😛
… let alone just this week 😛
if you was complaining about kingdom death I could understand, but this is very very tame …
complaining about a fully clothed female warrior, that is not stick thin and wearing a bikini is just crazy 😛
( referring to the final sculpt of course )
… would it have been better to have some more practical fighting gear and armour, yeah sure, maybe
but there are minis out there that are far more worse for the image of the hobby than this,
… take the fight were it matters most … this isn’t the correct time or target for complaints 😛
This isn’t the correct time for complaint.
When is that time if not now.
There are worse images out there, you are correct. Dude.
But that still does not make this one a good choice as a figurehead for an event
It is a poor argument to propose that a sexualised image of a young woman is okay because it is not a pin up.
Fully clothed?
Well I guess you could almost call that a skirt.
Certainly it skirts around the idea of an item of clothing
and the pose isn’t at all provocative.
Even the choice of name is an obvious play on words to refer to part of the female anatomy.
If I called you a Dick I would be censured.
But hey, surely it would be okay because there are more offensive names out there.
I am actually quite offended by what you are saying Chibi. Mainly because it is not a well considered or thought through series of posts.
Firstly, it is reasonably clear that you are not fully aware of who Boudica was or the nature of the show. If you were fully understanding of both you would understand that the image is in no way sexualised to the level you are making out.
As someone born and raised in Norfolk I am truly proud of it’s heritage, Lord Nelson and Boudica in terms of historical icons and a few modern ones including Stephen Fry.
Boudica has been used as a symbol of strength and is probably one of the oldest symbols of womens power. If you look into statues/sculptures of her you will find that most of them feature nudity. It is also worth noting that some believe the imagery of “Brittania” (lady with the Union Jack shield) is also possibly based upon her or inspired by her.
It is not unusual, even within art, to see nudity used to depict strength, resolution and fearlessness. In this case, there isn’t even any nudity so I am really shocked that anyone would take offence. The pose, is again, not overtly sexual, if it is, I really need to have a word with my wife – she stands like that when, erm, well, lets just say “correcting me”.
Lastly the event. The event is not purely a “wargames” event. It caters for wargaming, military miniature painting as seen at the likes of Euro Militair, boardgames, LARP-ing and cosplay for those that wish to. It really is an all inclussive family event.
Personally, I don’t feel that the artists work here is intended to be hystorical. The event is named after the famous ancient British tribe of the Iceni which was located in the East Anglia Region (primarily Norfolk) and which was made famours by their leader – Boudica. It is simply a combination of the two words “Dice” and “Iceni” – perfect.
I also feel the artwork is reflective of the event – combining aspects of LARP, cosplay, wargaming and boardgames along with the regions cultural heritage. There is clearly no offence intended in such artwork and also clearly none being made.
I suggest that in all cases, before people judge, they research and contact people and try and get a feel for what is being done. I have taken young people I work with to the event and they have loved it. I have run a demo game too, and had people from 6-70 play and enjoy themselves. It’s the best event of it’s kind that I have so far lived to see in East Anglia.
Very nice looking figure, will be picking up a couple of these ( I’m not a perv by the way ) last years show was amazing and this years looks set to be better. More relaxed amd a lot more fun than salute.
The name a play on words of the female anatomy? ha ha ha how wrong you are, research before making stupid comments.
Iceni – East Anglian tribe + dice = Diceni it was explained on the original website.
It’s not historical ( clue is in the title ) Steampunk.
Only one missing the point is you!
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it simple, I intend to and I doubt so will many.
I already got the Iceni connection.thank you. I didn’t need the explanation from you or the website. The Boudica name is purely a contrivance. And yes, I know it is steampunk. Do you always state the blindingly obvious?
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it”
Oh… it seems like you do.
“Purely a conrtivance” – are you for real?
Good grief, you really have nothing better to do? If you really mean what you say, turn up to the event, see it for yourself and have a look at what the event is about.
And it’s funny, you think you stand for something! Being extremely judgemental stands for nothing other than a right wing leaning attitude.
You clearly don’t get the Iceni connection or the relevance of Boudica. She has been long held up (for centuries) as an example of a strong, powerful woman – often with grace and with beauty – which, if you are really taking this tac, has not always been the social norm.
“The Boudica name is purely a contrivance”?
I’m sorry, I have to ask. Is your argumentative stance …
Someone started a convention in Norfolk, just so they could use the Iceni connection to have an homage to Boudicca as their artistic mascot, pay Matt Dixon to create a fantasy piece of artwork, get a miniature made based on that and then wait 2 more years to produce a steampunk variant miniature whereby you could see a tiny bit of it’s bottom all for the end result of making a ‘Boudi/Booty’ pun that has no actual benefit?
Can I get the number of your dealer?
Hi There
We (Hasslefree) made this mini, and I’m glad to see it’s been well received. Obviously there’s always one, but thanks to the rest of youfor the compliments.
As for the one.. Matt Dixon is a pin up artists, so his art is of… pin ups 🙂
The resulting mini therefore would obviously also be in a pinup girl style. As to the rest, I’m not certain where the correlation between you not liking pinup minis or artwork and that somehow translating to it not being ok for a show to use. Also, as you seem to be aware from the first post, it’s called Boudi because of Boudicca. I hadn’t even made a connection between it and ‘booty’, which is what I assume you are referring to, until you mentioned it. We’re all British, I’m pretty certain none of us have used the word ‘booty’ unless we were talking about Pirates.
In conclusion, it’s totally fine for you not to like the miniature, of the style of miniature or artwork but the rest of the manufactured outrage is a little bit silly.
I realise my comments wouldn’t be well received by the community.
It would have been easy to duck the issue. But that would have been the cowardly thing to do.
The gaming community is once again showing it’s true colours, and while not surprising is still disappointing.
Manufactured thinking? At least that would be some sort of thinking.
You should try it some time, instead of vapidly promoting clapped out cliches.
You actually deeply offend now – you are dismissing a cultural Icon? Part of my culture? And why?
You wouldn’t have to duck any issues if you realised there were not any in the first place.
“The gaming community is showing it’s true colours” – as are you. A bully and a troll.
Manufactured outrage, not manufactured thinking.
The mini was made to match the artwork. The artwork was drawn by one who specializes in Pin-ups.
Complain about the initial artwork if you like, but singling out the miniature (which you seem to be doing, and forgive me if you’re not) smacks of complaining just for the hell of it and reveling in the attention you know it will get when people call you out on it.
Ducking what issue? I’m still unsure what your issue ‘is’. I thought it was that you didn’t like punup art/miniatures. Why would you need to duck that, everyone’s entitle to their opinion?
I don’t think it counts as brave to state said opinion on a forum set up for opinions.
And as Kev pointed out, I said manufactured ‘outrage’ i.e. you are making up reasons to be offended and are now claiming bravery in defending said made up opinions in the face of the big bad gaming community showing their true colours.
I’m also pretty certain I didn’t use ‘any’ cliches never mind clapped out ones.
If anyone is offended by miniskirts and corsets I would suggest not looking at pretty much any steampunk website ever. You’re about 50% likely to come over all a-quiver.
@ chibi
if you really found offence with this kind of stuff,
then why aren’t you complaining about the raging heroes kickstarter, eh ???
… because that kickstarter features dozens of topless dark elves
… but you instead complain about about a fully clothed mini of boudica wearing cosplay
… that’s less revealing then most real life cosplay …
like I said, take the fight where it will have some real impact,
not against an independent event that raises money for charity
… but I guess your being too cowardly to complain against a popular kickstarter, eh ?
… or did you already back that kickstarter yourself for the nude elves ?
… oh dear … someone’s being a hypocrite
oh, and cheers for calling me a dick for no reason 😉
he roy kuay
Chibi we get you don’t like the model and you think we are all wrong.
If you have nothing good to say don’t post. Personally I think the model is great and I will be purchasing 1 or more. It has nothing to do with the shortness of her skirt but the pure and simple fact I will be supporting my local free to the public gaming event.
What in your mind would give the gaming community a good image?
For the love of gods, don’t anyone post the link to the naked version!
Well said mcfonz
I don’t like the mini I LOVE it and will be buying all 3 versions as do I love the artwork and the artist Matt Dixon who created it.
Your nothing but a troll.
