Oakbound Studio Releasing Shivershield Rules & Starter Set

Oakbound Studio will be releasing the rulebook and starter set for Shivershield very soon. Pre-orders are currently available for Shivershield over on their website but you'll also be able to sink your teeth into the game at Salute this year, too.

Shivershield's Core Rulebook is going to be your main port of call, acting as your starting point for your warband-based clashes in this folkloric Fantasy World by Oakbound Studio. The Core Rulebook is a full-colour, hardback book which comes packed with game rules, lists for different warbands, your equipment, skills, the objectives you'll be tackling and ideas for your first campaigns.

To give you an idea of some of the mechanics behind Shivershield, it has a unique turn structure. Players plan their activation order in secret, meaning that all of one player's characters could act first, or you could go back and forth between your warbands over the course of a game. There's plenty of flexibility in that.

In a nice twist, warbands in Shivershield can also react to your opponents, meaning that you're always in the heart of the skirmishes as they play out. As well as that, from a combat perspective, you have different ways in which you can fight. You can be offensive or defensive, dictating how you fight best in each situation as it arises.

Sometimes, you might not even have to fight. There are also rules for simply intimidating your opponent and forcing them to fall back. This could be because you outnumber them or you're simply a big, scary target!

This comes with twenty miniatures for two warbands, split between the Pixies and the Wulver Cultists. You will also get player screens, activation slates, a tape measure, vision templates, turn counter, terrain templates, a load of dice, plus tokens and cards.

This is a solid set for folks to consider. Who wouldn't want to play as awesome Fae Hedgehogs in tartan trousers? I think it'll be hard deciding between you and a friend as to who plays as that faction! Maybe this could be a good lesson in sharing.
