You Can Now Order Hobday & Hicks’ Warhost Fantasy Wargame
September 19, 2025 by brennon
Hobday & Hicks launched their new website fairly recently, where you can now go and get your hands on both the rules and miniatures for their 28mm scale Fantasy skirmish wargame, Warhost. Will you pick the fearsome Orcs or the valiant Elves?
Warhost Rulebook // Hobday & Hicks
Built on the core rules presented in The Barons' War, Andy Hobday's set of Medieval wargaming rules, Warhost adds in magic and plenty of other Fantasy staples, so you can play out fun battles with the miniatures in your collection.
Included as part of the Fantasy supplement, Warhost, you'll get rules for unleashing magic on the battlefields as well as monstrous creatures like trolls and elementals. You'll also find all of the rules for factions like the Elves and the Orcs, as well as Humans, Dwarves and the terrifying Undead.

This also means that you'll get to meet mighty heroes and villains like Prince Elarael (above) and Gromgarr the Marauder (below), who head up these different factions and their twisting fates. Such fates play out as part of the Battle for the Bylands campaign, which takes place over the course of three interconnected scenarios.

Each of these battles matters alongside the choices you make within them, leading to an unfolding narrative and minor skirmishes culminating in an epic final battle. Each faction that you fight as also feels unique and distinct thanks to the refined mechanics that Hobday has worked into the Warhost supplement. This comes across in your unit choices as well as special rules that apply to the army as a whole.
Warhost Miniatures
Warhost certainly has a very Tolkienesque feel to it, especially in the design of the two main factions that you can buy official miniatures for right now. These miniatures have been sculpted by Paul Hicks to supplement the artwork and design that you see in Warhost's Fantasy world.
Orc Warhost // Hobday & Hicks
You can go for the big bundles as we've pictured here, getting yourself a full Warhost for the Orcs or Elves, depending on which side of the conflict you want to come down on. All of the miniatures that you do see in these bundles are available separately if you'd prefer not to overload yourself with figures right away!
Elven Warhost // Hobday & Hicks
If you don't want to go with the Orcs and Elves, then Hobday & Hicks have been working on some Humans for use in Warhost, but you could bring whatever figures you want together to play your games. The Oathmark range by North Star Military Figures might be a good place for you to start considering the range of plastic (and metal) figures they currently have available.
Warhost // Hobday & Hicks
It's great to see that the Warhost rules and miniatures are now out there in the wild, following on from the successful Kickstarter. I can't imagine that Hobday & Hicks are going to be keeping still for long, though and we should see more miniatures and rules coming out to flesh out the Fantasy world they are building.
Will you be giving Warhost a look?

Considering how solid Baron’s War is, this is pretty appealing. Although I think it might be stretching the limits of a skirmish game if those bundles are the average number of models you’ll need to play a game.
