Para Bellum Introduce A New Edition Of Conquest: First Blood
December 9, 2025 by brennon
Para Bellum Games has announced that they are working on a new edition of First Blood, the skirmish variant of Conquest set within the Fantasy world of Ea.
Conquest: First Blood - New Edition // Para Bellum Games
As well as a brand new logo, the folks at Para Bellum Games are going to revamp the mechanics of First Blood. You will still command a warband of warriors, monsters, warlords and heroes who will take part in dynamic scenarios. Whilst the game will share some of the identity with The Last Argument of Kings, it will be its own game with a focus on those interactions between individual warriors on the tabletop.
The new version of First Blood will feature a comparative dice system, plus new ways for Regiments to activate and a boost for Officers. Talking of activations, now, when a Command Card is activated, every Warrior belonging to that Regiment will be activated one at a time. Warriors also no longer have to maintain coherency once they have deployed, so you can go and run off and kill whoever you like. Officers will also get their own Command Cards and act individually on the battlefield, giving them a chance for some heroics.
First Blood Skirmish // Conquest
First Blood will retain its scalable skirmish nature, where you can play the game with a handful of Warriors per side or a much larger force that might be at the vanguard of a marching army. However you want to play, Para Bellum are aiming to make sure you can replicate that on the tabletop.
Finally, at least as part of this initial preview, Para Bellum has talked about moving the time spent building warbands and scouring rulebooks to the battlefield. They are going to make the game experience flow much more smoothly and minimise the number of times you have to pause during your games.
You can find out more about Para Bellum's initial plans HERE. There will be more updates every week in the run-up to the new edition launch in February.
Will you be giving this new edition a try?

I think this is the best type of game for models of this scale – purely skirmish. Low model count, short painting period, more narrative based and easily portable. I hope this iteration kicks off well.
It also addresses one of the biggest issues with Conquest: shit’s expensive as balls.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will be a good system. I like the world of Ea and the minis, but rank&flank doesn’t excite me, I don’t want to paint all these models. Plus, I enjoy interacting with the terrain, and from what I’ve noticed, Conquest minis in this scale take up so much space on the table that the terrain actually interferes with the game
