Bloody Miniatures are stepping away from their coverage of the English Civil War period with their 28mm figures for the first time as they instead head back to the Jacobean period full of conspirators, plotters and those seeking to hunt them down.

The Conspirators #1 - Bloody Miniatures

Sculpted by Nick Collier, the idea is that this range of figures could be used for skirmish games loosely based around the period of the Gunpowder Plot. The plan is to dive into an intriguing mix of figures covering spies, conspirators and insurrectionists, as well as the loyal officers of the Crown like their agents, enforcers and inquisitors!

The Conspirators #2 - Bloody Miniatures

Bloody Miniatures also mentioned that this period of history also plays host to all manner of colourful characters like playwrights, doctors, alchemists, astrologers and ladies of the night so there could be the potential for some great additional figures popping up as part of this line.

The first set of four miniatures (pictured above) covers The Conspirators who are plotting in the dark and shadows, just waiting to spill out onto the street to hunt down some Crown official who needs to lose his head. Becloaked and rakish, they could be dashing anti-heroes or cunning villains.

Facing them, we have The Loyal Dogs of the Crown!

Well-armed government types, these fellows might once have been soldiers recruited from towns and villages to serve in the Crown's wars abroad. Now, these veterans find employment as officers, agents and guards of private individuals under the command of English noblemen!

They might be better-armed and armoured than The Conspirators but a knife in the back does the job regardless. I could see you putting together some great scenarios using skirmish rules in the tight streets of an English city. Maybe you could have them patrolling the streets of London, only to be ambushed by the fellows we looked at above.

Bloody Miniatures also mentioned that these could be useful figures for the likes of the Dutch Revolt and the Thirty Years War, if you prefer as well as being useful for the Folk Horror genre that has started to grow within the wargaming world.

The English Civil War isn't going anywhere either and more miniatures are coming out for that but for now, you'll have six packs of these figures to keep an eye out for, which should be released at the end of August.

What do you make of this period and these figures?
