About the Project

Just a place to collect my pictures and thoughts on modelling and collecting 30k. Probably a mixture of different armies, especially Blood Angels and Sons of Horus.

Combat Squad nearly finished

Ive nearly finished the second 5 of the first tactical squad. Ill be adding special weapons in later, for now they’ve all got bolters. Once these 5 have their bolters painted I need to do all of the eyes, squad and Legion markings then the first squad will be finished.

Ive also been painting the first contemptor up which was going kinda alright but it made me rethink the process a bit. Ive also changed the legionary scheme to have metallic cabling and metallic bolters rather than grey. This is to speed up the painting as they looked metallic from a distance anyway. Ive always struggled to make the guns look good for Space Marines!

Colour Scheme

The scheme I settled on needed to be relatively easy to paint with decent results. The following is my process:

1- Assemble mini excluding weapon.

2- Undercoat grey using airbrush or spray can.

3- Undercoat using Mephiston Red applied with airbrush. Im thinking to change this to a darker red to remove the following step.

4- Wash with Flesh Tearers Red contrast paint. I want to cut this step out by using a darker red undercoat.

5- Repaint all armour with Mephiston Red leaving darker areas in gaps and around the edges.

6- An edge highlight of Evil Sunz Scarlett on all the armour plates.

7- cables and metallic areas undercoated black.

8- Cables painted with a dark grey.

9- Metallic areas painted with a dark steel colour.

10- Grey and metallic areas washed with Army Painter Dark Tone.

11- Details tidied up such as eyes, iconography etc

12- Bolter painted black with metallic areas painted as above and a dark grey edgd highlight on the black areas.

I reckon this takes around an hour per mini and does give decent results. You could do another finer highlight using orange if you wanted to go the extra mile.

These were all painted slightly differently. Some are a slightly brighter red than the others but otherwise its hard to tell. These were all painted slightly differently. Some are a slightly brighter red than the others but otherwise its hard to tell.

Contemptors

Hi guys. Second time trying to post this so hopefully it will work this time!

Ive been working on my Blood Angels and have spent some time working on the Contemptors. I decided to magnetise them and each dreadie has both weapons, both shoulders and the waist magnetised using 5mm x 2mm magnets. I wanted all of the Contemptors to be interchangeable just to mix things up a bit.

Next onto the painting, Iv already airbrushed the undercoat and then a Khorne Red layer followed by a lighter coat of Mephiston Red. I might not bother with a wash and just move straight to highlighting. Weapons will probably be metallic and dirty.

Colour scheme test.

The first squad with different painting styles...The first squad with different painting styles...

Hi guys. This is my first project on here and my first post is just a quick shot of 5 tactical marines. They were all painted slightly differently to try and find a scheme that looked ok and was relatively easy to paint. Im posting this on my phone but when I have more time I will break down the process step by step.
