About the Project
Ive Just realised that appart from two speeders i finished during Lockdown V2 i hadnt painted any Star Wars Legion since the BOW Star Wars weekend in 2019 when we sat around painting and discussing vague reports of a flu in China. Little did we know... With the recent announcment of Lando finally making an apearance and still getting a tingly pants feeling from the Mandalorian S2 (WHAT A FINALE!!!) ive decided its time to finish of my orig trig rebel force.

" I'm just worried they might miss you... and hit me."

I remember Gerry a while ago mentioning that it was impossible to find what colour Jyn’s outfit was and after a brief image search i think he might be right.
Every photo ranges from greys to browns to greens and they all seem to be different. It is weird!
I think i may have got over focussed on this as normally i have a pretty clear idea of what colours im going to use but with this one i didnt have a clear plan and i think i may have to amend this one on the fly.
I did see one image where her jacket was kind of reddish brown and i thought that might be a good way to break up the model as she has a very muted look in all the images ive found.
Ususal Friday night distractions of Beer and Zoom meant i forgot to take a shot of the jacket colour. Basically i mixed a load of brown to try and get clos to the first image. Footnote i got nowhere near!!
I decided to go with it anyway and see what happens!
Old units get a tidy up pt 2
Next up we have the units i painted at the Star Wars Hobby Weekend over a year ago. They did at least see action in this ‘pre event’ footage!!
They served me well that day, a generiec commander managed to hold off a force led by Veers and Boba Fett, i should at least get them finished in case we ever get a chance to rematch on that amazing board!!
Looking at the units again im actually quite happy with them. Tauntauns / Rebel Veterans / Pathfinders / Rebel Commander all got to a finished decent standard, they really only need basing.
I did make a decision at the time to not go with a snow theme on the veterans or the Tauntauns, just felt it would look to jarring to the force as a whole.
Old units get a tidy up
Now that my characters have been painted it’s time to start finishing off some of the units that never got finished. First up it’s my Fleet Troopers. These were painted 2-3 years ago now (time means nothing anymore) which was when I was experimenting with dip and shockingly before Brainmatter Beige was a thing!
I got one miniature finished but wasn’t entirely happy with how they turned out so the project stalled. Also I realised after I painted them that the unit leader wore a different colour outfit. (looks like a 70’s safari suit!) This also needed fixing!

With the leader correctly coloured it was a case of washing everything with army painter tones (soft tone / flesh wash / blue tone /dark tone) basing, Matt coating and glossing the visors. Yes I know the helmets are white in the fluff but I like life and don’t need the hassle of painting white! I went for a sky grey in the end!
“Let’s go smash up the Empire”!
Gerry take note!
“Why, you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!” ...
FYI the last photo wasn’t me going mad, I decided I wanted a bit more colour in the waistcoat so mixed the blue and grey together.
Matt coat and done!
“You know, sometimes I amaze even myself.”
The trousers are a 50/50 mix of dark sea blue and deep blue.
Also realised his shirt is more ivory than white so gave that another coat
After a quick bit of basing, Matt coat and gloss on the boots he’s ready to womanise the galaxy. Have to say I’m very happy with the Army painter military shade, been sat on my desk for months!
ROOOOOOOWWWWAAAAAAARGH!
Now even though I love Chewie as a character it occurred to me I couldn’t remember what colour he was and what the pattern of his fur is. So off to Google for a reference image!
I’ve quickly realised that the main fur colour is a lot more red / orange than I thought and I don’t have a paint that matched so I had to grab some brown / orange and yellow and practice some alchemy!
I should point out and it should come as no surprise that’s the layers were built up by drybrushing the colours over the base layer to build them up
Standard Brainmatter Beige drybrush followed by a 50/50 soft tone / wash medium all over (forgot to take the photo!) then a 50 / 50 dark tone / wash medium on the Bowcaster, leather and on the darkest parts of fur
Finally a dip in the basing mix and a Matt coat and he’s ready to tear of some arms!
"You can either profit by this, or be destroyed"

Thats all the base colours done, now for some drybrushing and washes!
First up its the Brainmatter beige albeit very lightly applied.
I then gave it 2 coats of a 2-1 mix of dark tone / wash medium.
Once that was dry i think the wine must have kicked in as agaisnt my better judgement i suddenly decided to go for an OSL effect from the saber.
Now, I’m by no means an expert when i comes to jazzy effects but if you wish to know, heres how i did it.
First just a little white drybrush around the area followed by a Jungle Green drybrush over the top. Then i drybrushed black around the edges of the OSL just to calm it all downand focus the area. Finally i hit that and the saber with a Green Tone ink.
Its now the morning after the night before and looking at it again whilst sober (abeit with a fuzzy head) it kind of works. Remember, aim low, achieve your goals!!
Finally a Matt coat with gloss on the boots and glove and a simple base tidy and he’s ready to carve up the Empire!!
Along time ago at a hobby weekend far far away...
First up here is the pile of shame as it currently stands, the only things completly finished are the rebel troopers. I have some veterans, Speeders and commandos done but need final touches and a bunch of primed bits to get on with.
