Imperial Assault – Dusting Off a Forgotten Project
Recommendations: 202
About the Project
I'm trying to make myself work on the mountain of projects in my collection. As I was looking for what to work on for the 2022 Spring Cleaning Challenge I saw my collection of Imperial Assault figures in various states of progress. At this point it's going to require a lot of cleaning as well as painting, not to mention trying to complete the collection before it's too late.

Cleaning Painted Figures
So I had figures that were already painted, but has become layered in dirt after all these years. To clean them I got some computer duster in order to take advantage of air pressure and small size.
Blasting the dust off actually worked pretty well, but I then followed it up with a large bristle brush to make sure everything had been cleaned. Overall I think it did the job and the models were ready to finish up.
Week 2 Overview
I’ve made a little progress since my first video last week. So my sleep schedule didn’t let me get as much done as I wanted to this week, but I managed to get a few models finished. Let’s check them out!
Wampas
So I wasn’t sure how I was going to go with these. White is never easy, but then considering it’s a wild creature I decided to treat it more like a polar bear. I started with some Vallejo Stone Gray and then did an Army Painter Light Tone wash. Next came a drybrush of Army Painter Brainmatter Beige and the fur looked great to me. I hit the claws, horns, and “flesh” with Vallejo Dark Gray, but then came trying to figure out how to do an “elite” Wampa…
I opted for the “post appetizer” version of the Wampa from the Empire Strikes Back where there is blood dripping from the claws and mouth. I just used a light drybrush of Reaper Heraldric Red and I think it came out pretty well.
Bantha Rider
So how to get to details when your color pallet is brown…
USE ALL THE BROWNS!
I started with a Vallejo Chocolate Brown base, Army Painter Brainmatter Beige for the saddle, then picked out trim with Vallejo Saddle Brown, Leather Brown, Khaki, and did a drybrush of Vallejo Stone Grey. Hit the whole thing with Army Painter Strong Tone wash, and then picked out the metal on the face and the gun.
The hardest part of this was working around the horns on the Bantha head, they just do not give you a lot of room to work around.
Regardless, it’s a good model and I’m happy with how it turned out.
Lando Calrissian
So I was a little nervous about doing this one as it’s a named character from the movies, but I wanted to do Lando to go with the Wing Guard I painted yesterday. Overall it was a lot easier to pull off than I expected as the cloak actually left a decent amount of room to get a brush in between the cloak and the body. Overall it was pretty straightforward and I am happy with how he turned out.
Wing Guard
So this was a bit more fun, lots of basic colors, but I did some things that I thought were fun. So they give you enough models for two units of three Wing Guard. Keeping to the Grey/Red markings from the sentry droids earlier, I did red cuffs and hat ring for the elite, and grey cuffs and hat ring for the standard troopers. I also did gold trim for the jacket on the elites and silver for the standard. I think it was a nice complement.
Because I’m painting the bases black, and the boots were also black, I opted for some gloss varnish in order to help the boots stand out from the bases. To keep it consistent, I also glossed the holsters.
Finally, I opted for the multiple skin tones for probably the first time in my painting career. My main reasoning is that I thought it would blend better with Lando Calrissian.
Overall, these were some fun troops to paint up.
Week 1 Overview
I didn’t get to work every day, but I got some stuff done and I’m pretty happy with it. Let’s review week 1.
