Human Auxiliaries
Twenty Men with Chains and Pistols for Close Combat, the idea of a guy with nothing to lose trying to kill an Astartes with a chain is just too good not to have in an army. The Iron Warriors used their human troops like cannon fodder during the Great Crusade which meant they stopped being given proper units and started getting the dregs and Penal Troops.
One Hundred and Twenty Men with Lasguns (I bought 5 boxes). This left me with 10 left overs which I made into some snipers
After a basecoat of Wraithbone the minis are painted with Army Painter Speedpaint Fire Orange. This is a tricky one since it's very powerful and it's tricky to go over with other paint as it bleeds through.
I like the bright orange pop and at the same time it's kind of dirty. I imagine it's some awful plastic type material.
White Square on the back that I might put an IV on. Guns will be given Iron Warriors style Hazard Markings. These could be used as Chaos Cultists in 40K or as Imperial Guard in 40K or Imperial Conscripts in 30K a very versatile box.
The Sergeants gets a special hat that came in the box but still have a collar. I cut the two heads off and glued them together, a simple conversion but I think it looks good. The Chainswords are the ones that come with Mk III Marines. The Infantry Finished
To Finished. I only used 6 Colours. Plate Mail Metal, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Retributor Gold, Daemonic Yellow and Abaddon Black with a Dark Tone Wash.
The base is originally painted with Moot Green then stippled with a 75/25 White to Moot Green. This helps add little light spots that makes it look more like a dynamic base instead of a green one.
Perturabo's Base. You can see the technique clearer here. I'm not claiming it's perfect, I think I might end up dry brushing the black cracked earth to make it a little brighter but it works for now.
A light coat gives you a light, cracked finish suitable for a basic desert but I'm going for more of a weird volcanic/cracked earth recently hit with chemical/nuclear weapons so a thicker coat makes that effect. I thought I would need a new pot after only finding about a quarter of a pot left but it was easily enough to do this whole force, that stuff goes a lot further than you think. The Lord of Iron
Last year I painted up Perturabo for a talent show. I left the hammer off so I could use him Pre-Heresy since a few of us would like to play Astartes v Xenos at some point. The Lord of Iron

A Character, in the Previous edition a lot of Iron Warriors Rites of War needed a Warsmith so I thought I better get one. Unlike most Legion's Techmarines a Warsmith is basically a Captain with a Servo Arm.
I was originally going to prime them Black and drybrush but I decided to wash the colours down instead to get brighter colours
The Plasma Pistol and Thunder Hammer came from the Mark III Plastic set, the Axe and Bolt pistol are cool but I think Iron Warriors would rather the blunt Hammer and the Brutal Plasma.
Paint Plate Mail Metal, Black Wash, all the details, Black Wash. That way the armour gets nice and dark while the colours get a little shading. After the second wash instead of standing the Mini up I hang them upside down so the wash pools in the leg armours recesses instead of flowing off them. The Armour
I managed to pick up these three Rhino's for very cheap, apparently no one wants them in current 40K anymore. I also bought one new giving me the 4 I needed.
Also a Vindicator. 30K and 40K have a lot of vehicle cross overs, the major differences are in the Infantry and Bikes not the Vehicles and Walkers.
Jumping ahead but one or two coats of Plate Mail Metal, a Black Wash and a drybrush of Stormhost Silver. Paint the details.
The only weathering so far is on the Cannon, I'm waiting for the decal sheets to launch before doing anything. There’s the Vehicles, I might get another Vindicator and I’ll be picking up the Starter set which means I get the Land Raider Proteus which will be handy for the Terminators.
I choose to do the Iron Warriors after reading the first few books of Siege of Terra and the Rhino idea came from the novel Angel Exterminatus where they use them as mobile cover and instant fortifications which I thought was awesome. Also the colour scheme is really cool and they can easily be used in 30K or 40K if I ever decide to get back into 40K.
