About the Project

This is a project on terrain planning and building and also kit-bashing of three forces for Weird War 1 games. It will detail my first attempt at building a trench terrain set and some other quirky pieces for the weird war. The aim is to create six trench sections, some kind of stone circles and a stranded ship or two. If I have time, a few bits of verdant new growth. The ground may be a bit challenging as it's kind of muddy, kind of sandy and plants growing like crazy....hmmm

Painting the troops (finally)

So I built most of these miniatures in 2023, and haven’t touched them since. I wish I could say they are my oldest unpainted miniatures, but I am pretty sure I have some pre-covid sci fi figures kicking about.

With the release of the new John Blanche paints, inspiration struck and I grabbed some of my Germans to have a play. Time for the button counters to start twitching.

First pass down, my basecoating has never been the neatest. So far the acrylics have been good to work with, next step – washes and speed paints.

Having applied a wash , I did a few highlights and rust effects. The army painter one doesn’t work the same as the Vallejo, but it’s a nice effect.

Added a bit of basing and it’s job done. Just the rest of the army to do now. The constraint of just using the John Blanche sets was not an issue. They are a massive improvement on the old army paints

It’s as done as it’s going to get for terrain fest.

19-21 Putting it all together

I added heather and skulls and various totems to the trenches to represent the resurgence in pagan beliefs in the game world. I have plans to add some additional boards to break up the straight lines and give a more oragnic bevelled edge, but overall I am quite pleased with my first go at trenches, historically accurate, no, but they look the part  and they are playable. It’s a pity I don’t have any forces painted up to add to the photos.

I’ll class this project as complete for the purposes of Terrainfest. But will reopen once work on the miniatures gets going.

Thanks for looking at my work!

Finally my miniatures from Mierce actually showed up…well 75% of then at least. This allowed me to execute and idea I had for a British procession unit. I wanted a chariot with a spiritual reincarnation of Boudicca, obviously it’s WW1 so I shoved a gas mask on her and stuck a Lewis gun on the chariot.

Not much to report as the terrain portion draws to a close . I painted up my replacement banners to dot around the trenches,  then it’s greebling and spray varnish.

I started on some final scatter terrain, I thought some basalt outcrops would make some simple but effective cover for no man’s land, so I fired up my increasingly reliable Elegoo.

Then I cracked open some wine and went to annoy people on live streams
