Infinity 3rd Edition Week – New Rules: Hacker Devices
October 16, 2014 by crew
We're now going to take a look at the news rules for digital warfare in Infinity 3rd Edition! Killian and Carlos have a chat about the changes to hackers and how they're going to effect your games in the new edition.
Will you be fighting to take control of your friend's TAGs or will you be frying the brains of your enemies with cyber warriors?

woot !! more info keep it coming guys.
Oh man oh man exciting! December cannot come soon enough
Excellent.
Can’t wait for the battle reports to see all this working.
I’m grinning like a fool hearing this. Hacking sounds such a cool feature! Glad my test mini is a hacker so I’ll get straight into this.
All my hackers will come for you ol ;0)
Alas my only foray into hacking (with my current force) is defensive hacking courtesy of Izzy. But I suppose I should pay attention now that a Corregidor force has mysteriously appeared in my hobby cupboard!
Oooh, can’t wait to unleash hacking with my Nomads and Aleph!
Love me some hackers!
I think i should get a hacker or 2 😛
OK, wow. Just, wow. That is just a brilliant way to redo hacking.
Can’t wait anymore……
This is wetting my appetite for more vids.
Great content guys
As a Nomad player I’m loving that hacking is getting buffed. I hope EVO repeaters are better too!
Hackers!
I’m a winner
well I like those changes! Hacking gets really interesting now
This is a very welcome overhaul for hacking. The idea of finally having hackers in a wargame was a big part of what drew me to Infinity initially. Then I started watching battle reports and was disappointed to see most either didn’t bring any hackers or they had a minimal effect on the table. Now they get a huge range of tactics and can be properly feared.
Man this is my favorite N3 video yet.
I like all the programs except for the direct physical damage to the hacker variety, but only because it doesn’t make sense. If these were psycher rules it would, but hackers not so much. If it’s simply a balance thing then ok, but I really like the rest.
Lots of cyberpunk has the concept of Black ICE and abilities to do physical or mental damage directly to a hacker. In my mind this fits perfectly within that, but in more of a direct military fashion compared to the more heist/espionage/noir focus that much of cyberpunk often has.
that’s why i play infinity
….We have CYBERMANCERS!!!!….
New hacking rules makes the game more streamlined. Awesome!
Ariadna is going to need Hackers
Holy hack snacks! I thought I was keeping up with these rules discussions and had a decent grasp of what to expect from N3, but this actually seems quite complicated. Just the sheer amount of hacking programmes available, and more to come in the future! :S
When will N3 be available in germany? I do not mind playing with a english rulebook though.
Hacker time!!
I think i need some hacker.
great stuff, cant wait for the new book, and that sweet ltd bounty hunter
Wow, lots of programs and uses for hackers, but with face to face willpower rolls an BTS roll, it seems to be more useful to get various hackers and wait for the chance to do multiple AROs
Here we are, the most interesting N3 stuff as a Nomad player lured into the game years ago thanks to malicious Interventor Morgana. So they’ve decide to uptrun all the hacking phase so to introduce new possibilities on one side but dramatically streamline and simplify on the other.
Really dunno what to say. I’m excited as it is a brave new world to explore of tactics, effects and combos of them. I’m glad they have the intention to improve the hackers in the game. Sometimes they look like very expensive models wearing next to useless gizmo if the opponents deploy next to nothing influenceable by hacking (i.e. Ariadna). Now even lo-tek Ariadna lads will start to tremble (sometimes though) when an Interventor comes into action. However I do not like on the spot the change of BTS in a sort of ARM value implying then a sort of ARM roll against hacking. Indeed I liked the way as the hacking affects enemy targets that seemed withoud any defence if the opponent didn’t deploy any hacker to defend. Anyway it’s better to wait to see the whole picture and keep the faith in Bostria&co. as he said they wanted to improve hacking as a worthy part of the match. So finger crossed and hell friggin’ yeah for Tunguska’s Interventors!
As a last note now I’m curious about what would be of EVO reps and HD+ advantage now that everyone could FO via HD as it seems.
I think HD+ will have some other exclusive hacking programs to choose from.
Will be using hackers – looking forward to the cyberpunkesque programs.
A couple of demo games would be good for those of us who have never played Infinity.
Hackers is one of the unique things I love about Infinity!
Can’t wait for 3rd edition!
So cool.
This seems like a nice mechanic to add flexibility to armies.
This was the one I was waiting for. Cool stuff.
Bring on the hacking
These new hacker rules seem very well thought out, can’t wait to try them out in December.
HACKER ARMY!!!!!
Makes me want to buy a Tunguskan sectorial.
These are some good changes for hacking. It needed overhauling.
3rd edition needs to come out sooner!
Isolating an Avatar… that is going to be something I look forward too, especially he reacton on the CA players face 🙂
All your TAGs are belong to us
Nomads FTW
I’m getting so pumped for N3 ^_^
Upgrade reaction: my dakini greet you! Also “oblivion” is very perolous… I’m lokiing foward for personalized programs for Aleph!
Darn! Hacking sounds seriously cool in 3rd edition! 🙂
Give me that Jotum!
N3 can’t come quick enough though have operation Ice Storm to tide me over
Very nice upgrade of the hacking. I hope that those charts will figure in the rulebook
So glad to see this. I’ve always loved the hacker minis but so far never used one other than to complete missions.
I cant wait to try this game.
great info
Need fast panda
It’s very interesting to add burst to hacking, also I am guessing that HD+ is going to improve access to some of the programs (a bit like MA4 giving more options on the chart than MA2). Guts rolls for hack attempts and falling back is interesting and good for those with courage so they can pass/fail depending on the circumstances.
Great job Carlos/Killian!
Great stuff and I JUST GOT OPERATION ICESTORM! Never played the game before so super excited. Now to try and get everything together so I can play!
Hacker rules does throw an awesome curve ball into the game, love it 🙂
Lots of improvements also for the Hackers, the preview of the Skills Chart is really nice, this will add more tactics and army lists changes ! Want to see a hacker vs hacker combat, Brain Blasting each other 😀
Nice change, it improves hacking.
Hope this new rules will make hacking more more useable 😉
I….
No words…
so beautiful…
The should have sent a poet…
Awesome
pandas!
After a demo of Sons of anarchy is now time for some infinity videos and relax.
This is going to be an exciting edition with all the new rules and enhancements
Gotta have more hackers.
Bring on December, hacking is where it’s at!
I am sooo excited. This is awesome!
I am having no buyers remorse for nomads!
I like the new rules for this easier to understand
Those are great news for my Nomads!!!
As a Nomads player, this sums up how i feel:

Anything that clarify the rules and cleans them up is good but you can’t please everybody!
Whoa mama… these changes are quite the thing… I wonder how many of those “programs” really can affect any given target. Ariadna, look out!
…oh boy….I am soooo in over my head 😉
Nice video, this is the one my eldest daughter has been hanging out for since she first saw the nomad hackers with their pandas. Great rule system looking forward to getting it onto a table
So how do evo repeaters work now?
I like the changes. Being PanO we are not big at the hackergame, but maybe I´ll use it more in the future.
I’m feeling ‘hacked off’ that I don;t have enough Infinity models and N3 rules to try all this out yet…
(see what I did there 😉
More power to Nomads!
Unfortunately, I want to start with Ariadna, but hacking sounds so cool!
Wow a ton of options now. I want to see what is avalible to my most played factions now.
This is just.. much wow, such amazing!
Infinity meets Shadowrun, Chummer!
This is going to be awesome, can’t wait to see which device gets which program, or maybe a certain hacker has certain programs?
This! Best video yet with some of the coolest rules i’ve ever seen for a thing that really doesn’t exist in other games. Hackers will be the Wizards of Infinity. It will be hard to not include one in every army.
Hope these charts come through in the new rules well
Hopefully Tohaa will get more than just defensive hackers in N3 but then i’ve got Pan O Nomads and Yu Jing to mess about with anyway lol and with so many awesome new models I will prob end up with everything eventually lol :S
Hack the world!
The most eagerly awaited change for me and my nomads!
whoa hack powa, nomads gets better with this
So Infinity finally got it’s “magic/psychic powers”. Better be good.
This coverage has been ace.
awesome looking pandas there
R.I.P. Exrah.
R.I.P. Ragiks
Awesome stuff, keep it up lads
MOAR Info. keep it coming!
A great hacking system now
this is A great hacking system now
Hacking seems very cool, but it seems I really have to study the rules when 3rd edition gets out. 🙂
Oh man. I think I need to put in my pre-order right now!
What’s left to spoil tomorrow?!?
Looks like I needs to get me some pandas now 🙂
I prefer hacking done with AP close combat weapons it’s much more efficient.
So pumped for N3
I am definitely getting a hacker ninja for Infinity now! That’s sounds too cool and fun to pass up on.
Looks pretty straight forward. I approve of making hacking more powerful.
This is exactly how hacking should be. I’m definitely bringing at least one per list now.
I’m sure that male Tunguska Interventor is related to Robocop.
Anyone else notice the 4 boxes for the giveaway are out of supply everywhere? Infinity must be doing well!
Massive changes here!!
Is Tohaa still limited to defensive hacking in N3?
I am looking forward to these changes. All of the added details and an effort to keep thing understandable is most welcome.
Nice. Looks like possessing TAGs got a lot more viable. That’s kinda scary. But hey I play Nomads too so works both ways 😀
Great video. Thanks.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
Super excited for N3. … I’ve already preordered. Hackers sound awesome.
Oh boy…time to start taking more hackers. Interesting how defensive hacking has seemingly been thrown out the window. Now the only defense a non-hacker has, like my poor remotes and TAGs, is reset…kinda scared >n>
I think that I really need to play with these rules to get my head around them but I love that CB are expanding the hacker rules. One of the things I like about Infinity is that it’s hard sci-fi and has elements like AI’s and hacking to make things really interesting.
Pandas are important. Please, do not kill them.
With all these hacking rules Infinity is starting to feel a bit like Shadow Run, I can’t wait.
Fast Pandas for the win!
Totally digging all the new rules. CB really took a good, honest look at the game and changed it for the better. I hope. 😛
Hacking should be a major part of a game set 165 years in he future. Cyber-warfare is a revolution in military affairs.
I never really considered hackers until now. The idea that there will be seperate charts for different hacking devices is really cool.
*Nomad Happy Dance* H@q t3h P|4n3+!
This hacking revamp looks like a big deal. Between this and the CC revamp, it seems like ninja hacker Christmas.
Suddenly I’m very glad my hackers of choice (wildcats) have a bts of 6
Thanks for the new info! Not that I use hackers much in my Ariadna…
Great to see hackers being made far more versatile and really opens up even more tactical play
Havent seen hackers in ariadna. Gues i have to look harder 🙂
i wanna see the new EVOs and the exclusive programs for some factions, i guess aleph and nomads!!
Best update with cc new rules!
Interesting guys keep it up
Hacking now really adds to your battle plan. And the mechanism also ensures hackers will be both a deadly menace to almost everything on the table, but people won’t shrink back from using TAGs or HI just because the opponent usually brings a hacker – you now have various opportunities and ways of defending yourself against hacking, including the new dodge-like mechanism of the Reset short skill, and BTS rolls becoming independent from the hacker’s WIP roll.
The new hacking rules encourage both the increased use of hackers and hacker equipment and an increased HI presence in most battles, which is a good thing. Swarm armies will still be nice, but smaller teams suddenly become vastly more attractive.
My newly acquired Nomads will appreciate that.
Mmmmm no mention of only non ariadnan heavy infantery, will ariadnas heavys turned to mediums so the rules are clear and fine, or will there be a fineprint with lots of new confusion?
Nevertheless, i really dig this new Hacking rules! Nomads to the power!
I need some pandas.
It is obviously difficult without the full picture, but I am liking the changes as I’ve heard them all so far.
That is promising. I like that hackers now have more use against other targets and not just TAGs, hackers etc.
interesting new rules. i’m looking forward to these
Oh Wow looks soo nice :3
Good to hear this since there was no hacking in Icestorm. Nice work
Really excited for some N3 hacking now
Loving it, keep em coming
Happy Nomad.
I love it
Interesting stuff
Wow. Can’t wait to see the full list of programs. I wonder if my Tohaa defensive hacking device is going to have a use now, or should i just leave that to my nomads.
Nice changes , keep going guy’s!
Yay. Finally a reason to have a ninja hacker :3
It was super scary for me to use one before cause of the point cost, and the probability of it being dead the turn after i used it.
awesome new rules, can´t wait to try them. I don´t think it´s complicated, you have a very clear table for it.
Looking good
Finally more impact of Hackers to the game, i am now really looking forward to this!
I’m a big fan of the regular troop hackers, full of character
love pandas! Unless i play my aleph that are basically all robots then: hate pandas!
Now I may actually use my hackers…
Now hacking seems more fun! I can see more players in the future utilizing hacks as another way to gain a more advantageous position during the game.
Bring on the Pandas!
where is my al hawwa hacker? i think now i will have him in the new lists. its cool what you now can do with the hackers and you can hack ariadna for gods sake this is the best point. most of my old team mates play the damn low tech faction and all my nice haqqislam hacking equipmment was useless against them. guys the tides are turning. thx cb that you changed the hacking rules.
These rules make me glad for the plethora of charts coming out….
that first part was incredible! soo many twists and turns you wouldn’t expect to see!! you can’t write that stuff!
Dang… guess I’ll have to expand the O:I Nomads after all! Fantastic rules!
Once the Repeaters get in range of each other and all those Hackers start going off against one another with ‘brain blast’ and ‘sucker punch’… wow that would be a lot of rolling but also a very bare table after all that. lol
The more I see and hear about 3rd ed the more I am liking the game.
Notice there’s seemingly no possibility to hack and take over a remote on that chart… I wonder if that was an omission or if it is truly gone.
Perhaps that was a choice in line with the rule that hackers can’t see through each others repeaters. Even though it would take orders to achieve it could eventually lead to a similar kind of hacker showdown as Carlos described in the example situation.
Awesome, simply awesome looking.
Time to dust of the Nomads. Or maybe just to include some hackers in my light infantry Haqqislam force. Perhaps my regular Hanzakut will finally see some use.
Also interesting to hear a bit about the design choices that were made for third edition.
Another great video by the BoW team. Loving Infinity week. Keep up the excellent work!
Now hackers are really dangerous and to be taken into consideration in many more missions.
Neat!
I love how almost every aspect of N3 is focused on giving you more options and creating new, interesting tactical situations. A wider utility for hackers, clear rules, incredibly convenient charts that make it simple to tell what you’re doing. N3 is showing exactly how to handle a new edition. It’s not breaking what came before, but just making it more useable and interesting.
Right now I’m pretty curious to see how all of this breaks down based on category. I suspect that certain types of hackers will only have access to certain categories, but I want to see how that starts to take shape.
Holy smokes! I need to get some hackers! This looks like a really unique feature of Infinity, and I really like the fluff side of it.
can anyone who is more expenreced with Infinity explain how much of a change this is from 2nd?
Very interesting news !
Well, Carlos just made a very happy Nomad player! With the sheer amount of repeaters in the army, Nomads can use a lot of the new abilities very aggressively, especially the new forward observer ability. There’s also the fact you can give the Reaktion Zond a B:5 HMG in ARO!
Wow, my poor Ariadna… still, makes me want a hacking force.
Can’t wait for N3! (^_^)
I don’t even know where to begin
i like how they are keeping the face to face roll mechanic consistent throughout, hacking doesn’t seem so complicated anymore.
These additions are absolutely fantastic… So excited for 3rd Edition.
Glad that they are making hacking more useful. It is one of the things that draws me to Infinity.
Have only been in the table top hobby for a month now, practising my painting and and assembling on ‘hand me downs’ and I felt I was finally ready to take the plunge into one wargame that gave me multiple play style options. I must say. Infinity has done that for me :’)
Makes hackers more worth it with these changes.
Gonna add a whole new level to the game!
Hacking looks amazing in the new edition, I really like how many options are available. I can definitely see taking a hacker in all my lists (though I don’t play Ariadna….yet).
Very glad to see the hacking rules being brought on line with the rest of the rules, mechanically speaking. I’ll freely admit that I never really wrapped my head around the rules, and thought they were very pricey for what they could do. Seems like all of that is being addressed.
Just can’t decide which faction to take forward.
I can never get my hackers far enough forward to take advantage of their current skills. Also as I am new I can’t spot the things I could and/or need to hack
Hide yo Tags hide yo HI cuz they hackin’ everybody out here!
Thank you for making Hacking count!
Loving the look of Hackers
Really good stuff!
Haven’t used hackers much. Seems like I’ll be fielding them a bit more now .
good to see that the 3 conflict typs work in the same way makes thinns to remember easyier than befor
Very excited on the new Edition… playing since 1st. 🙂
I will be frying the brains of my enemies…
This seems awesome.
Just learned about N3 and picked up Icestorm today. Now I’m working my way through the videos… and hoping I win the boxes to fill out my forces!
Finally, a game where the nerds have a chance to win the game for an army!!!
I was worried that hacking would be a clunky “magic phase” dropped on top of the existing rules but it sounds like they’ve walked the line perfectly between making it feel different to other types of attack while making it work within the same rules structure.
Guess I should just trust CB 🙂
Really great set of videos guys!
Nomad hacking coverage: ACTIVATE
Having your Tag hacked sounds brutal.
2015 is going to be a good year for wargaming
I like all those charts
Hackers are kind of wizards in this game… really excited!!
Love how these new rule tweaks add heaps of flavour as well as tactical depth. Hacking now feels much more real and deep with the addition of programmes. And yay that interventors are now as badass as the fluff says.
More great work CB
Let the infowar commence! Glad I picked up some nomads from the op icestorm starter set so I can try these new rules out.
Pretty cool!
Definitely Ghost in the Shell inspired
now I undestund the fast panda ^^
and start falling in fear for my Caledonian armi…
Interventors. That’s all.
Wow, I can’t wait to try out all these new hacker toys. I need to get some hackers painted up ASAP.
Even though I’ve still never played the game, for a long time I only ever identified Infinity as “that game with the robo-pandas”. 🙂
The Old Man in the Mountain is watching you.
this make me think over and over hacking opportunities
Enjoyed how hacking worked in the batrep.
