Bah… the Kracken is kewl granted, in the game at least, but realy it looks pretty herrendous when compared with other colossals.
Well the kraken does look nice when finished on the table but still had less parts than the Galleon.
Think the Millenium Falcon was the clear winner there.
I’ve never been a fan of the “squishy” back legs the Kraken got, but otherweise it’s a brilliant model. Gets alot of “tabletime” around here, probably the most fielded Colossal in my meta

As I know the guys on this video a little more than the 26 minutes you’ve had to decide on, I promise they’re much nicer and worth giving a chance to!
That said, I agree a final shot of the assembled figs would be nice. Its something the Beasts of War guys are trying to get into their videos going forward but its dependant on what is available and whether they have any examples of the models assembled.
I’m a fan of the three unboxings and a ‘wildcard’ surprise one at the end as it keeps it a little more interesting and you get the banter between the presenters. A bit like Top Gear only slightly more geeky.
Gotta agree with u! The three model format is very nice and the surpise at the end not to mention that there is a competition in with these which is a massive bonus. I do however also think that you need to give these presenters time to bed in to get past the whole “deer stuck in the headlights” thing that is sorta going on in these videos. After awhile i’m sure everything will be more natural and have a better flow. Remember beasts of war are doing us a solid just by making these vids and I for one and thankful.
Disliking the presenters is somewhat harsh.
However, you can tell they are new to it. You can also see from all the videos that some are developing the knack for presentating faster than others.
I do however think that the multiple unboxing while in theory I would agree is better currently isn’t working for me. The wildcard at the end was pretty cool but unless you know about it which I didn’t I very nearly bypassed the video. I would prefer a bit of the discussion of in game role which was vague at best.
Yup, I think it’s simply a case of give it time…
Let the presenters settle in and let us tune the show formats.
It’s like I said when we started to shake things up mid Jan, for me the content is king so we’re gonna let it find its feet and hopefully improve stuff as we go.
Indeed, interesting to see how it develops – and what happens going forward/ On a side note the weekender is a strong addition to the channel.
Stuart, has hit the ground running and brings a real enthusiam to the channel which is one of the big pluses for me.
Battle reports/let play/play throughs would also be good.maybe once tech and time gets sorted live event coverage would be great.
Oh and something that introduces begineers like the malifeux and carnivale weekends mentioned translated to the screen would be grat for those not able to make tabletop nation. I admit the malifeux is purely a selfish request from me as I am looking to get into it just on strength of the scuplts alone.
Whilst I don’t wish to comment on the presenters as like people have said. You can’t judge someone on just a few minutes.
I do have to say that i’m with lorderon when it comes to the format though. It sucks donky balls. (In my opinion.)
The old format of 1 presenter doing 1 unboxing was much better. It allowed more focus on each item so that items didn’t get rushed over and it allowed you to find the product you want to know about easier.

Kraken is a beast fit to appear on Beast of War. Cryx is just a misunderstood faction. You can never go wrong with TENTACLES 😀

Whether or not it’s hugely dangerous, just the threat of it will help cryx players to organise the fights on their terms. Sure, cryx have a lot of speed and some decent hitting power, but sometimes that isn’t enough.
I’ve never played Infinity, but the viral rifles sound amazing! I’ll have to look into it.
The Kraken is such a lovely model, just like all of the Colossals,. I’m really impressed by the detailing on the Falcon, and as ever Infinity has brilliant models.

Nice show guys. I wasn’t sure about this new format for unboxings before, but I’ve come to like it. The banter really livens up something that can otherwise be a bit dry.

The Kraken is easily the most original looking colossal in the WM lineup and for that reason alone I love it, but what helps is that it is just so.. alien! You could totally use it in any other 28mm game as part of some alien invasion, or as some terrifying monstrosity in 15mm!

As a Cryx player, the Kraken would make an awesome centrepiece for my force. Although I’d have to invest in body armour as I think I’d be the most hated person in my play group!
I liked all the models, but the millenium falcon wins it for me.
Having said that, as someone who still dabbled in battlefleet gothic occasionally, and whos got the x wing game, the space mats are probably the most useful item on the show, and the first thing I’d spend money on.
PS . Dave’s funny, quality addition to the crew.

Another brilliant video. The Millenium Falcon is always awesome. Loved everything i’ve seen from infinity and i wouldn’t say no to that Kraken.
My favourite out of those would have to be the Loup-Garous (but I wouldn’t say no to a Kraken!). Infinity looks so tempting model-wise, but with my spare room groaning under the weight of models, I’m limiting myself to the occasional Kickstarter at the moment.

Sorry to say that Gav said he brought the show with dave, scot and the letter “L” however it looked a little bit more like the letter “J” to me!!! Glad to see it is not only me that is Dyslexic, hehe. (No offence btw) Nice to see the Falcon. Now I see why it costs more, as I initially thought it was the same size as the other models >< Doh!

X wing is getting harder to resist, and the kraken is a great model – even though I currently only have eSkarre and that is for painting.
Somehow all the colossals/garguantuans I like are for faction I currently don’t own much for 🙁

However, I have noticed a huge mistake in the video. One of the presenters (I shall not name, see if you can spot him) is wearing &%$^% cufflinks!!!! Hello? what sort of gamer is he? looks fresh out of Sandhurst to me!! Sat in the MIddle, biggest model, longest review and did I say *^&%£%^* CUFFLINKS!!!!…. Compensating? (Joking ofc Toffs are people to 😀 )
Love the Mats from GF9!! Wish they were 4×4 though as they could fit nice and snug on most tables. Still 9/10 for awesomeness!!

If I recall, Gav came straight from ten hours of work in the City (London for those not in the home counties of England) and then put in another five hours here with the Beasts of War guys to give you chaps an unboxing video – and you slam the poor fellow for not bringing a change of clothes and dressing down!
In Mick’s honour I shall be wearing cufflinks in my next video appearance. And possibly a cravat.
I can’t wait for the wave 2 expansions of X-Wing to be released. The Millenium Falcon and Slave 1 are a fantastic addition. The A-Wing and the TIE Interceptor are among my favorite fighters, so I’m giddy about all four new ships. I haven’t given Infinity or Warmachine a go yet, but both look like a lot of fun.
I’m an existing wm/h player so the Kraken appeals to me, but that Millennium Falcon is also pretty cool too, and I’m not even a huge Star Wars fan.
The Infinity models are cool, but the range has far more interesting models for me to drool over.

Nothing against these guys, they just don’t gel so to speak. We need to see more vids from the current BoW presenters rarther than just new folks. Get Darrell and a couple of new guys, at least it will be a little more familliar.

For me its great format of creating “whats in a box?” thou I miss explanation what that model can do in a game. But I can’t complain. For me I can be hated but I would like to have a Kraken unfortunately it’s quite expensive so fingers crossed for winning 😛

I’m glad to see you guys are expanding a lot. I don’t mind seeing new people and I really love the new formats, Im sure these guys will settle in like everyone else. All I ask is that you get these guys a bigger table, they seem like they would be more comfortable with more room. Again, not bashing you guys at all, I’ve got man-crush’s on you all. The Kraken is an excellent model and an excellent piece to have on the board. It may not be the most powerful of the new huge based models, but with Cryx it doesn’t need to be.

Its worth mentioning that these videos are often filmed as a batch and then released over a period of time. This particular one was filmed some time ago (before Dave’s Painting tutorials) and so if it seems like they are a little green, its because you are watching earlier footage. The only shows that really go out within a few hours of recording are The Weekender.
Mind you we’re still pretty ropey in that…

I do like the new format you’ve got going, having a few people on there to get a bit of a conversation going is good. I would suggest either a longer table, you guys look a bit cramped up there, or a slightly curved table. Just to get more interaction between each other without having to turn your heads as much.

Love the look of the Kraken, it’s abit small compare to all the other colossals. Alot of people I know call the big cannon a c*** and it should swap places with the small gun =D.

Returning to The Hobby after a 5 year hiatus. I have no idea what any of the games are about except GW. Discovered this site by pure accident. Spent all day watching the videos and articles. Lovin’ it so far.

Some comments on the format though.
a) The wild card extra, it’s not really a surprise wildcard when the article has the picture and name. I’m not entirely sure what the intention there is.
b) In regard the formatting and people preferring the more detailed reviews, if it comes down to a decision between doing one product detailed in the box review and doing one of these multi product in the box reviews I’m much happier to see this format. Yes I’d still like to see the detailed format every so often as well but there are so many products to cover!
Good point with a). It’s really an issue I caused to be fair.
I suggested the maps as a cool wildcard but then, after editing, the BoW guys realised that through my choice I had caused the fact they had reviewed these cool mats to be the videos best kept secret. So the decision was made to make the wildcard a little more high profile than they usually do.
I apologise for causing the surprise to be a little advertised in advance on this one!
Went online and look at the place-mat those are buestiful perfect for a game of Firestorm, also love the Loup-Garous but I a bigger fan of the Kazak.

Kraken is one of those minis which make Cryx really outstanding faction design wise
Love the kraken. I’m just getting into infinity, and Ariadna is my favorite faction. But it tears me up the Frenchies look so cool. My mind can’t grasp badass and French in the same model. And the Falcon is one of the definite models in all of sci-fi, and I’m looking forward to getting into that game.

Great presentation, but I have to say that the Kraken would eat the Millennium Falcon breakfast and still be hungery for a Winter Guard snack.
The kraken always looked kind of weird to me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautifully sculpted, but it strikes me as somekind of squid/unicorn angry mutant hybrid… which is probably perfect for Cryx.
I’m a Cryx player but haven’t picked up a Kraken. I love the Millennium Falcon model too and can’t wait to get my hands on one (along with Slave 1 and a Tie Interceptor)!
Hope there’ll be no Davy Jones (or Jack Sparrow) in the Star Wars Episode 7, Kraken with some lightsabers could be nice. I’ll stick with the Empire (or Cygnar Stormwall) anyway.

I’m new to Beasts of War, having discovered the vids a couple of days ago while looking for GW Chaos Marines painting and gaming tips. Two days later and I’m a big fan. This is the first What’s in the Box video I’ve watched and it’s a great concept. Absolutely love the diversity of game systems presented and the different views from the hosts as hobbyists and gamers. I want to expand my gaming beyond GW and this site and show is very inspiring. Thanks guys and keep up the good work. Now it’s about time I break out my Cryx starter battlegroup for assembly and painting and get my Game Director at work to set up a game of X-wing for games night. 🙂 Cheers.

Kraken looks pretty awesome
Good video, I know it’s not as polished as the regulars, but good content and they will only get better. The most important thing is more presenters means more vids – winner winner chicken dinner. Gotta go and order me a falcon… and maybe a GF9 fun mat!
Still thinks the Kraken look cool, though I do like the Conquest better.
