It's the final day of Tau Week and Gav and Jack sit down for their last look at the Tau codex; the heavy support section.
Well that's all folks, the Codex is all out. What are your thoughts on how the Tau have turned out?

I don’t regret ordering the new Tau’dex now 😀 Still having Broadsides though because they’re lovely models.
I HIGHLY disagree with the review on the Sniper drones. A few things which weren’t considered at all.
-Their weapons are pulse based, which means they benefit from the Etheral’s Storm of Fire, giving them 3 SHOTS!!! at 24”.
-They can jump shoot jump, pivoting around the controller, or the controller staying out of line of sight, since they still benefit from the increased BS.
-They have the longest range out of ALL snipers in the game.
-Drone Controller is a good candidate for Aegis defense line’s quad gun
Some math-> 3 full units of SNiper Drone teams, with an Etheral will have 81 shots in 24” range, costing 450 pts. That much firepower on average will kill approx.:
-2 squads of space marines
-1 full squad of 10 terminators
-5 terminator’s with stormshields
Outside of 24” they still get 27 shots across the board, and having stealth they could be easily parked behind an aegis defense line for 3+ Cover saves. In practice they could be used as firewarriors on steroids, having around 1.5 times the range, rending, pinning, stealth, BS5, and wounding on 4+, for a bairgain price of 6 points over the Firewarriors.
OH, and the Drones also have T4 instead of the magic-tau-number.
I was gonna bring up the same points once i got home from work but dooldeen beat me to it
I see snipers as headhunters now. The drone controller gives the drones BS5, sniper gives them wound on 4+, rending, and precision shots which helps take out characters in units(taking out sergeants and ICs is nothing to scoff at when your army can’t fight in a challenge), up to three extra markerlights to spend on a potentially characterless unit(lower leadership without him), and they also pinning.
I don’t see anything in the rules to say Longstrike can’t shoot every weapon in overwatch.
so after all those reviews my verdict is great job guys 😀 don’t necessarily agree on all points (see above on sniper drones) but largely good advice and i now have a shopping list for 2-3 months from now 🙂 (too many projects)
Very interesting week, guys. Congratulations.
Thanks @dooldeen You’ve gave me a great reason to use Sniper Drones now, lol 😀
And this is what its all about ! your feedback shows me the errors of my ways there, and I’m glad someone did some number crunching to find the real value of this unit !
Its been a good week, and I really enjoyed covering this dex, can’t wait to see all the new armies hitting the tables and the Tau empire making its march onto glory !
If you’ve got a tau force painted up, get some pictures on the painting threads or minirama. time to shift all those boring astartes out and show something decent for a change!
Hopefully some halfway decent shots of my own army will be up sometime soon !
