Ultramarines Trailer 2 Out Now
October 15, 2010 by lloyd
Just as the title says the second Ultramarines Trailer is now out showing a little more of the plot and many a Chaos Space Marine meeting his end. If your interested then it's worth watching as more of the animation is on show including close combat scenes.
It's going to be released Worldwide on November 29 2010, for more info. give their site a visit: http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/

i wanna seee it soooo bad
…and we shall know no fear.
Great work I’d say.
Keeping my expectations as low as possible for this one!
I read that as Ultramarines 2 trailer. “There’s another one!?”
The coffee is still brewing.
this looks terrible
A badly animated semi-ridiculous plot line for GW’s poster boys. Whoopee.
I really hope the story is great! The way it looks reminds of me of old videogame cutscenes unfortunately.
And why are those chaos space marines running into bolts like headless children? I don’t hope they have the Stormtrooper syndrome.
Wow…this is going to suck…..
I guess the next three or four attempts to make a GW movie will be crapy. i hope its like the development in games…remember dark omen oder epic? the first gw games where all bad too.
read a discussion where some guys compared trhe trailers with the intro of DoW 1 +2 which look awsome but are not more then 3 minutes or so.
i`m scared and i think gw will test the market with this. like lucas did with the first drawn clone wars. if the response is ok they will produce more.
I think it looks all right much better than the first trailer anyway.
you are bringin this trailer much too late on your site
it has already been out for ages
Looks just as terrible as the first trailer, sounds just as terrible as the first trailer.
The dialogue sounds like the text from a fanfic or a terrible novel that focuses more on the action than good characters (gee I wonder why),
Even the voice actors sound bored reading this rubbish…with the exception of Sean “what the hell are you doing working on this rubbish?” Pertwee, whos delivers his lines wonderfully even if they are utter dross.
Cutting down Chaos Marines like they are blades of grass, those chaos empowered sometimes 10 millenia old Chaos Marines.
Also go to 1:02-1:03 … why does that FLAMER fire a plasma bolt and make a “pew” energy weapon noise?
I think you people are being too harsh on something that is a “Gift” to the fans. Just lighten up guys! this is the first movie of its type and even if its not the best visually or if the Story is corny. Who cares! Enjoy it based on its good merits and spirit. Is DOW 1 very visually appealing? no not at all, its an old game now. but its still one of my favorite games to this day. Even if this movie ends up terrible I’ll still be supporting any future movies because i appreciate anything making our mini’s come to life like this.
you often pay 30 quid for gifts?
Its terrible, look at DoW2 cutscenes for the state of the art 2 years ago.
And the voice acting, from great actors no less, sounds flat in the trailers.
Oh so you want it to be free? So the kind people who at least tried to do something for the fanbase get nothing!? So they don’t get money to pay their bills? To live? The people who worked Really hard to make this should get nothing???
Thats not what i said at all. Even remotely.
Of course you should pay for the product of someones work. But then its a product not a gift.
And this is most definitely not a “gift” in the “doing it for the kids” sense either, its objectively worse in quality (in terms of the actual, objective and measurable render quality) than anyone would expect these days.
You are arguing that we should accept substandard shovelware in place of an all round quality product, simply because we are fans. Well, 23 years of GW fandom later, and I expected better. Chibi hits the nail on the head below.
I really don’t think GW did this for the fans; it seems to me that GW wanted to examine if DVD films would be another viable way for them to squeeze money out of their devoted followers. The minimal effort, as evidenced by the terrible quality of the product, was to see how much they could, in essence, “get away with.” Would fans be so enthralled with Warhammer 40,000 that they would purchase the product no matter how crappy it is? At $40 (US) and by limiting the release to only a special edition, GW is maximizing profits on Ultramarines the Movie, especially since they hired Codex Pictures.
Its not a conspiracy theory, its rational logic. And the fans deserve a little more effort, I think.
Sorry
It may be a movie for the fans.
But it still needs to work as a movie. If a trailer is a tease with some of the better parts I dread to see the average to bad bits!
It looks clunky. It has the feel of some of the animated CGI series I have seen on Saturday morning kids programs. So I guess that is the target audience.
Even so 8-12 year olds deserve better.
The script and voice acting is poor and I will not sit through two hours of DVD clenching my teeth and buttocks because of dialogue and delivery which has the effect ofdragging ones nails down a blackboard! lol
If you are into it fair enough, just calling it how I see it.
There are enough good to excellent animation/ CGI’s around to say this could be so much better.
Actually, looking at the new Space marine video game’s trailers looks better than this. In the trailer the marines move much easier and fluid compared to these guys (though they are Ultramarines, must be a rectal stick implant). I’m really looking forward to that game
im sorry to point out this but the space marine game has better graphics than this……hahaaa! epic film makeing fail
As other people have said, poor graphics, clunky animation, voices that don’t fit the Marines. Just will not live up to what we would have hoped for in a 40K film.
But then again it’s about Ultramarines, the least interesting Chapter there is. Nobody I know will care.
As others before me have already said, the Space Marine game has better graphics than this and that’s just a game. I’m still looking forward to this however so I can let the old imagination run a bit wild :D. The voice actors themselves are all great but yes they are reading some drawl dribble. Ohwell still can’t wait!
Well i can remember the trailers from Bloodquest which was banned from gw and now this ? I wonder why they make such noise about this film? the only good thing i can find is that dan abnett write the script. Dawn of War for example has better animations and graphics and thats a pcgame. Well i realy hope the script will be good, but why in the emperors name chaos??
And for this Bloodquest had to die?
Ok, I don’t want people to start thinking that I think this film looks good but I think people need to stop comparing this to games, PC or otherwise. The gaming industry has made incredible leaps forward in the last few years and has become a multi-million (maybe even billion) Pound/Dollar industry. They can afford to use the latest, most cutting edge technology in their CGI however this is made by the people that made the Bionicle films. Also I don’t think its fair to call video games ‘just a game’. Its just as good a media form as film or music.
Ok done with the rant and sorry if I overreacted.
All the same I think there are some key elements we need to think about before we start slagging off the film
– The way it looks may just be the style of the film/Codex Pictures
– I don’t know about you but it looks like they spent a little bit too much on voice talent and not enough on animators. (personally I don’t think John Hurt’s voice fits a Space Marine)
I definately agree with you on the subject of Codex Pictures possible style. You’re absolutely right on that. However, the reference to games I believe is justified, only because if you look at a simple cutscene, which is just an animated short, most of them have amazing cinematic qualities, and fluid animations. I also agree with what you say about games being more than a game!
John hurts voice as a space marine? No
John hurts voice as someone with an alien bursting out of their chests? Yes
I would like to see a Space Hulk film next.
i like the trailer and love the idea of a space marine film. but this animation just looks horrid. im at uni learning computer games design and i can do better animation and modeling than that.
its models like that i would make for free if i had time to waste.
why didnt they take a look at the star wars cgi series or the incredible.
even the games of warhammer look better.
if they are gonna make a film for the fans they have hit all the right boxes with that one major exception, this is a make or break part of the movie.
I agree 100%
They should of look in the community, a lot of fans are like you or me (computer animators students) that would kill for a opportunity to show off their talents. It’s a win – win situation: students get real experience and they save some money…
Somebody commented that they look like Saturday cartoon… I think the’re even better than this film, like you said, Clone Wars looks awesome and they have a look style to it and it doesn’t make you say: is this done?!
PD we should make a short to show’em how it supposed to look and feel… 😛
The animation doesnt look too bad, yes in some shots it does look questionable but overall I think it wont be hard to watch!
Its the terrible voice acting that is the most shocking-with such big names involved I would have thought it would have sounded perfect.
I was expecting the sound to be perfect rather than the image. I think I will be cringing mroe att he voice and sounds than the animation!
Aside from what has already being said, it seems they totally overlooked the gothik aspect of Warhammer 40k. Which is what makes it so great and not yet another space-pew-pew-laser universe.
This trailer makes me sad 🙁
check out the concept art on the site, they haven’t. they just forgot to put any gothic bits in the trailer
It looks outdated by at-least a decade but better to have a warhammer 40k movie to draw inspiration from than non-at-all.
Well for a long time ago in a little place down in Germany there was a fanmade project. this project was awesome, but godfather gw has banned it into the deeps of the warp. They have done a terrible mistake. Without this mistake there would be a very cool and better movie then that crap here.
GW DO THE FANS A FAVOUR AND ALLOW FANMADEMOVIES!!!!!!!!!!
While i agree that the animation etc looks dated, i would be more concerned with the story.
If it follows the more complex personal struggles characters such as Rafen, Alaric etc have in their respective stories in the black library books, then it will be a good film.
I can live with dated CGI (although i would rather it was grade A quality) but with the wealth of excellent backgound material for the 40K universe a bad script is unforgivable imo.
The CGi looks like art students did it.
I finished my animation and multimedia degree 7 years ago and we could do better with less.
It just looks lazy.
I feel like the textures got better from the last trailer they release but I think the biggest pitfall they have is the animation looks so robotic and unrealistic. Motion capture might not work for what they want to do but at least take some for reference, I have never seen a human (or super-human for that matter) walk and move like that.
yep, i agree ade73. there is such great potential for 40k and fantasy films which could be made realistic even with relatively low budget. it is sad that a company that has this MASSIVE amount of characters and background lacks the slightest bit of vision and imagination to produce something that could appeal to a worldwide audience. GW are lazy and this movie reminds me of the poor animations and voice acting in the original space hulk game, which i loved at the time but should have gotten a whole lot better by now. including chaos space marines as simple targets for ultramarines to shoot is dumb. instead they could have just focused on one area of the warhammer universe and packed it full of atmosphere with a nice simple plot. space hulk would have been perfect. why not animate the novel “spacemarine”? too simple?
0:56. Hm….. failed his armor save.
lol
Is it just me or is the chaos marine at the end scream “ORDER”? Yes I know its a small detail but it is nagging my mind.
Great effort but I’m not impressed with the CGI. I am sure they could have gotten the guys who did the DoW2 series to do a better job wi the CGI.
If we were to live in 1998, I’d say this looks stunning! Unfortunately, we live 12 years later, and I still think:
This looks like crap
This looks really bad, it looks worse than a games trailer. I am starting to think that Games-workshop is starting to kill themselves, thinking themselves as a small, private company. They need to start going big, Space Hulk should of been released into as many toy-stores, and super markets as possible, as a board game. This film should of been made by proper film companies.
CGI could be better…
Oh dear Gods! *pulls a pained expression*
I think i will stick with the age old adage,
Never Judge a book by its Cover
Which seems to be what everyone is doing here. Who gives a Fcuk about the CGI or voice acting its a film about a 40k the scope for future films is endless if this film has any success then it could lead to bigger and better things which can only be a positive thing.
So give the producers and developers the benefit of the doubt and wait until you see the film.
does everyone remember Final Fantasy The Spirits Within a film that came out in 2005 which we would all agree looked fantastic even to this day its still a benchmark, but the film was a load of shit, it flopped and was a big waste of money
so what you’re saying is we should give our money blindly regardless of quality? lol perfect consumer!
I wish I could get excited by this but it looks terrible. That CGI is an embarrassment. Oh dear.
Also, Space marines should’nt have the voice of Sean Pertwee, this means that bad-ass super soldiers share the voice of the man who does half the make-up/shampoo adverts on tv. Thats WRONG! Let me guess, Danny Dyer is the voice of the chaplain.
Actually John Hurt is the voice of the Chaplain.
It wont work unless they alter his voice a bit IMHO.
What I cannot quite get is that the movie is made primarily for the fans.
The target audience is going to be incredibly savvy about visual media and styles.
There will be a lot of gamers who are also into movies in general and Sci-fi in particular.
Like someone said this really needed to tick all the boxes.
Would be interesting to see what a non gaming community would make of this.
I was under the impression that it was going to be general release, but maybe I misunderstood. But straight to DvD never bodes well.
Missed oportunity imho
Would have looked forward to seeing a SM movie with better production values.
Lol at the people complaining, honestly? What did you guys think, that this was gonna win thousands of awards? Some of you guys are so thick lol, also who cares if they’re ass whooping the Chaos? Jack Bauer took on a WHOLE WEEKS WORTH of terrorist threats without dying!
Ok, the CGI is a vast improvement from the first trailer, actually not THAT bad, but still sub par but my god, terrible voice choices. Meh, Il buy it once it goes down to 10 bucks.
Man, this….looks like one of those thrift store Lego Bionicle films. In 2010 CGI should not look that stiff
well it is by the same people who did the lego bionicle films so that makes sense.
But still i think everybody’s being a bit harsh, the first trailer was complete rubbish but this trailer is quite good i mean it’s not avatar but the it was never going to be. I agree the CGI could have been better but what does that matter as long as the stories good ill be alright with. I mean jesus everybody seems to have been having such high expectations.
Actually my expectations were pretty low and it hasnt even managed to reach them, let alone anyones high expectations.
The original DoW engine was able to produce more fluid animation in real time 6 years ago, and comparing this to the cutscenes from DoW/DoW2 or even game engine footage from the new space marine game makes it even more laughably horrible.
With all the talent out there (and there is masses of it) how did they manage to get stuck with CGI that would embarrass a late 90’s Lebanese music video?
For the emperor !!!!!!!!!!
Oh boy, does this look meh. Now I definitely won’t shell out any money for this.
that was cooler than the lost one
I have just finished watching the Ultramarines movie on DVD, and yes the graphics are not Avatar but once you get swept up in the plot, and immersed in the world, it is all really good.
I agree it is a solid film where it counts, in the atmosphere, and an encouraging start for a small independent company.
It is a VAST universe and let hope there are some more epic films to follow!!
I liked some of the lines from the film, and thought they would make comically awesome ring tones…
Then I found out today you can download them here!
