November 27, 2025 by brennon
Hydra Miniatures are masters of classic, retro, Pulpy Sci-Fi and so it was awesome to see them launch another new game, Atomic Tank: The Robot Wars! See what you make of the new 10mm scale Starter Set, available right now from the team.
Atomic Tank: The Robot Wars - Starter Set // Hydra Miniatures
This is the third of the game systems from Hydra Miniatures' Retroverse. This time, the focus is on epic-scale conflict on the tabletop with streamlined, tactical rules that allow you to play out fast and cinematic battles.
The game makes use of an alternative activation system, which will keep the players involved throughout your battle. All units fall into one of four categories and bring unique abilities to the battlefield. This means that it's simple and easy for you to get your head around the game mechanics, so you can just dive into the fun.
Galacteer Army // Atomic Tank
When you dive into the game, you'll want to start with the Starter Set, which features two complete forces. The Galacteers (pictured above) will find themselves battling against the unstoppable and dangerous Robot Legion (below)!

Both forces come with a range of infantry, armoured vehicles, giant robots and heroic leaders. They are represented by both pewter and resin miniatures, depending on the style of figure. This set also features a full forty-page Rulebook, Acrylic Counters, Dice and all of the other components that you need to play the game.

Hydra Miniatures aren't going to be stopping here. They have plans for Atomic Tank to expand with even more factions like the Imperials, Valkeeri and the Zenithians. You will also find new scenarios, miniatures and more coming out in the future through additional supplements.

This looks genuinely awesome and reminds me of the era of Pulp Sci-Fi adventures brought to life on television with actual miniatures on screen. I get vibes of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Space: 1999 and that amazing era of ingenuity.
What do you think of the premise behind Atomic Tank - The Robot Wars and these new 10mm miniatures?

It looks cool but not 120USD cool. and “80 miniatures” is stretching it a bit. 32 minis/bases. But they are not the only ones doing “favourable counting” that way. Still 120USD (or 108 in the current ‘sale’) plus 29.95USD shipping and then potentially taxes/import duties. Nope. Sorry.
That does look like a lot of money for very little.
Will there be tripods/Martians in future? Those would look cool if done in this style.
Expensive but Hydra make fabulous stuff. Too bad they went 10mm with it, their retro rocket space game is more like 6mm, they could have tied the two together.
I believe that was the original plan.
Oh yeah, more epic scale goodness!
The $120 price tag is a touch steeper than I’d like, but given that Hydra are a small company I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Will be great if they add more factions and units into this.
This looks fantastic! Honestly 10mm minis will be pretty hefty so I think the price for them is pretty good.
Out of all the 10mm options available now, Armoured Clash is still probably best value in a starter game but small companies aren’t going to be able to offer as much value as that if they can’t afford to tool the plastic spures.
Suppose it comes down to whether you like the aesthetic and this looks wonderful. Very tempting even at the price point.
I was looking forward to this about 3 years when they first showed off some models. Bit expensive though
