If I ever get some of these, and thats a big if, I will paint them ANYTHING but gold.
Cusstoads – that made that hard viewing. 🙂
Ha! All the way through wondering what the 40k universe would be like if Astartes were really pronounced AssTarts.
I was thinking exactly the same.
It’s an interesting point about the effect of the Sisters of Silence on Orks. But I’m not sure how much effect it would really have.
Almost every sentient creature has a presence in the Warp and can therefore effect, and be effected by, manipulations in the Warp. These manipulations are how the Ruinous Powers reach into the real world and possess psykers. The Sisters of Silence act as “jammers” or “nullifiers” of these manipulations.
There are some species, the Tau, Necrons, and Orks amongst them, that have different relationships with the Warp. The Tau and Necrons have no reflection or presence at all, but the Orks have an entirely different relationship.
The best way I can explain it is as an analogy to the internet. Hang on, this’ll get convoluted.
Daemons are AI’s that live in the cloud, Humans and Eldar are connected by WiFi. Strong emotion provides all the data that exists in the cloud.
Psykers are the only ones that have enough ‘bandwidth’ to be affected by the daemons. (Eldar have better ‘firewalls’ 😉 and are less prone to this). The Tau and Necrons are not connected to this network at all.
The Orks are, also, not connected to the cloud. They operate more as an independent Local Area Network. Each individual Boy acts as a node and as more and more orks gather the network grows in power and capacity until it triggers a mighty Waaaagh. This explains why a large gathering of Orks is exponentially more dangerous than a smaller group. It is also the given reason why Orks have very little trouble with Chaos taints and possessions.
So, since the Sisters of Silence and the Orks operate on different networks, I’m not sure how much effect the Sisters would actually effect them. Most likely, they’d get a good proppa krumpin’ just like any Chaos Sorcerer that goes up against the Green Tide.
Checked the painting tutorial:

While they seem to avoid the issue by labeling the tutorial Custodial Guard, at 1:43 Duncan refers to them as custode-es (i.e. the one that Justin didn’t pick) 🙂
That Should say Custodian Guard (I wish you could edit your typos in comments!
Yep … I have thunder fingers and have been wishing the same thing for a while
And be able to add pictures like in the forums …. oh well maybe in 2.0? who knows? 🙂
Also the horus heresy audio books from black library pronounce Malcador as Mal-ca-dor the si-Jill-ite though if you have only ever seen it written it’s another one that could go a number of ways.
That is kinda like saying chain mail which means chain, chain. Custodes is a latin word for guard/ guardian so custodian guard is basically saying guard, guard ( add 2 “s” at the end of that and you get a great book by the late Terry Pratchett btw). They should actually be just saying Cuss-Toe-Dees although there are 3 other pronunciations of that word. imho they should be called Praetor Custodes (Emperor Guardians) and not Adeptus Custodes ( skilled men guards in 40k corrupted pig latin)
they are great well detailed figures they would look fabulous in metallic shades I think.
or use AoS: Stormcast Eternals for Custodes. I prefer those models anyway and I have a lot from the AoS starter box. Also, with conversion Stormcast are good proxies for Astartes Minotaurs and Carcharadons chapters as they are listed as being taller than other chapters– 3 + mtrs. I believe; so the bigger Stormcast are awesome for these and for Chapter masters as well
YaY!!! Kitten and the gang are here
They are the same as the Roman Empires Praetorians. The emperor’s personal guard, police and army
@dignity / On Justin’s theory
Close but not really:
Chaos gods do not exist as of belief; they exist as of emotion. Emotions cause psychic energy to enter the warp, this coagulates into masses of raw energy when it becomes powerful enough it forms into a god governing that emotion. as an example Slaneesh the Eldar did not believe in the Chaos god of Slaneesh; they created puppet gods they could control, and would police the warp for them. The Eldar started murder, torture, raping, pain, S&M, D&S, Bondage killing and extremely perverted pleasures on a species-wide level ( remember the Eldar controlled their gods, so there was no true death- they could die and the gods would reanimate them instantly as if nothing happened). This created very extreme emotions on sex, pain, pleasure, death and violence. These emotions started flooding the warp and gaining energy and mass at an exponential rate; made worse by the fact that the Eldar were strongly psychic, a high influence on the warp, and were doing this galaxy-wide with trillions of beings generating this negative energy. It got to a critical mass and boom the energy formed into the new chaos god of these negative emotions Slaneesh. This also created the Eye of Terror, and broke the Chaos gods out of the prison the Eldar had them trapped in; thusly giving them free reign and a portal to flood psychic and warp energy into reality.
This was not a problem for nonpsychic races as no influence in the warp and vice versa. So belief in the chaos gods- heck knowledge of them would not exist to a non-psychic race, nor would the Chaos gods notice a non-psychic race as their presence in the Warp would be so dim it would be below notice. The trouble happened when Humans developed psychic powers, they started glowing like a beacon in the Warp, the Gods noticed and started feeding on this energy, and as the psychics are sensitive to the Warp, thusly the Chaos gods could contact them, influence them and travel through them into reality, or possess them. So the belief in the Chaos gods was actually created after they made contact with Psychics not before. On why The Emperor wanted to wipe out belief. quite a few options there.
1) As Justin suggested in his theory that by stopping belief he would limit or kill the Chaos gods.
2) more likely If he stopped all pantheonic belief systems and had mankind only believe in him as the savior and leader of Man Kind; he would gain so much energy to his warp presence he would become an infinite level god himself above all others and control the warp and reality.
3) As it is the right thing to do get rid of belief, and superstition. Religions have caused nothing but hate, pain, suffering, wars, mistreatment of 51% of the world’s population, mass torture, and murder, terrorist attacks. The only way to have equality and world peace and one united people under mankind is through having no religions, no belief or faith, only facts, science, logics, rational thinking, and a driving goal for all to push towards. (Although I think the Emperor was a god level being and being a jealous god only wanted belief in him, so had to kill all other pantheons and belief in gods).
The trouble with Justin’s view is by just ending belief to limit the chaos gods; with no place for that psychic energy to go to The Emperor was creating a huge problem as all emotions affect the warp and coagulate in it; he would have been creating a new Chaos god, an ultra powerful one the Chaos god of unbelief, or the Chaos god of anti-Chaos ( Malal/Malice anyone???).
We know the Emperor is a psychic vampire anyway who feeds on 1000 psykers a day ( 4,017,750,000 and counting). It seems logical that he ended belief in all; except him ( not as a god but as mankind’s leader, savior, and emperor; to build an empire of stars through science and reason) to feed his presence in the warp to become the Uber- Alfadur god : to control the material and immaterial.
Also as Chaos Gods feed off of emotion/ psychic energy and not belief. Even if you do not know about them you feed them by just living. You feel angry or noble- you feed Khorne, feeling indecision or overly positive you feed Tzeentch, in a torture dungeon or feeling Hornyyyyy, or having a good meal or a lot of fun you feed Slaneesh, feeling ill, or caring for someone sick you feed Nurgle.
So even with no belief systems you still feed Chaos and the warp and the gods gain power. The problem is Psychics They are the conduits to and from the warp. The only way to kill the Chaos gods is to wipe out all flora, fauna, and all higher life forms. The Necrons are the only cure for chaos kill and destroy all organic and living.
Go Tzeentch 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
the tyranids must be in their somewhere as they are psychic creatures.
I think the Sisters can only effect Human and Chaos, possibly Eldar. The Orks and ‘Nids psychic powers work differently ( no real presence in the warp). If Sisters can effect Orks and ‘Nids ( especially the ‘Nids) then they would be too powerful and make ‘Nids irrelevant as an army and GWS would lose the sells of its (I Believe) 2nd most popular faction
Also, all Orks would be reduced to savage Orks with no vehicles, weapons or anything- so again would negate the whole faction as with ‘Nids –( loosing GWS all sells of Orks as well); — and not just the psykers and demon elements of Human, Chaos and possibly Eldar factions
