Iconic Space Marines & New Combat Patrols For Warhammer 40K
July 21, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop unleashed even more Space Marines for Warhammer 40,000 last week in their big Warhammer Preview. Some notable characters from the First Founding Chapters are getting new miniatures alongside some specific Combat Patrols so you can begin your force to match them.
Vulkan He'stan // Warhammer 40,000
He'stan strides the battlefield once more, carrying the relics of the Forgefather. He already brings with him the Spear of Vulkan, the Gauntlet of the Forge and Kesare's mantle. He still has much to do and this is a welcome update for this classic character amongst the ranks of the Salamanders. He also comes with the option to have him without a helmet so you can see He'stan's face for the first time.
Another of the well-known Space Marines to get an updated miniature is the bulwark, Darnath Lysander.
Darnath Lysander // Warhammer 40,000
He carries the impressive fist-shaped thunder hammer, the Fist of Dorn and his towering shield with the chapter icon emblazoned on the front. You can build him with his face on show or you can put his Terminator helmet on for some added protection.
Stalking from the shadows, we also have Aethon Shaan for the Raven Guard. Once the First Captain, he has been promoted to the rank of Chapter Master since Kayvaan Shrike stepped aside.
Aethon Shaan // Warhammer 40,000
As you might expect from a classic edgelord, he is draped in banners and feathers. He also comes with three different head options so you can go with helmet, hood or with his flowing locks on show. Jokes aside, he is a super cool miniature and should be great fun to paint.
If you prefer the Iron Hands then you can call on the expertise of Caanok Var.
Caanok Var // Warhammer 40,000
A calculating and deadly warrior, Caanok Var has taken the ideals of the Iron Hands far beyond others of his kin. Some say that his left eye is the only part of him that is still flesh. He also carries a badass power tetsubo, which can crush anyone who gets in his way.
Last but not least, we have Suboden Khan! Yes, your eyes do not deceive you; that is a White Scars character who actually gets to ride a vehicle!
Suboden Khan // Warhammer 40,000
Suboden Khan fights from the saddle, cutting down his foes from the back of the grav-bike with his power lance. His grav-bike also packs plenty of firepower thanks to the onslaught gatling cannon mounted in the front. A lovely miniature and a welcome one for White Scars fans.
New Chapter Specific Combat Patrols
To match each of those new miniatures for First Founding Chapters, you can also get new Combat Patrols so you can start your own army to match.
Salamanders Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
Imperial Fists Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
Each of the Combat Patrols has been designed to give you the theme and flavour of these Chapters. You will also get all the transfers that you need inside so you can make sure that the right insignia is on show.
Raven Guard Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
Iron Hands Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
All of the Combat Patrols give you generic leaders and troops apart from the White Scars set. This actually introduces the miniature for Suboden Khan alongside his Outriders, Assault Intercessors and Impulsor.
White Scars Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
If you don't want the extra miniatures, Suboden Khan will be available individually later on. Considering the savings that you often make on Combat Patrols, you might still be better off buying it and then supplementing your White Scars force. Or, just wait and head to eBay.
What do you make of the new updates for Warhammer 40,000 and the Space Marines?
