Storm of Vengeance Brings Warhammer 40k To PC & Mobile
February 26, 2014 by brennon
A company who I have never heard of, Eutechnux, is bringing Warhammer 40,000 to Mobile and PC with the upcoming release of Storm of Vengeance. You can check out the trailer and some screenshots for this lane shooter above and indeed below...
The game is a lane shooter akin to titles like Plants Vs Zombies where Space Marines of the Dark Angles take on Space Orks, upgrading their units and planning the best defence against waves of enemies that continue to pour towards your battle lines.
According to some hands on experience they seem to have made the two factions fairly different and it seems like maybe this is quite the neat time waster game for plugging yourself into on the train. Admittedly the game is nothing like Dawn of War or Space Marine, but then I suppose there is room for all kinds of games based in the Warhammer 40,000 world.
Interestingly the conflicts you fight in multi-player feed into a larger 'war' where your chosen faction is vying for dominance. There will be a third faction, the Imperial Guard, up for offer on day one and then more are in the pipeline.
I guess this could be a cheap and cheerful addition to your mobile library.
Personally I'm waiting for Space Wolf!

Having a look at these screenshots, is anyone else thinking 40K Plants V Zombies?
LOL this is exactly what I thought!!!!!
Wow.
This looks irrevocably awful. I’m so glad GW chose to farm out the 40k license to a bunch of studios nobody has ever heard of -_-
Pathetic really. Why make crap like this? Mobile phones and games just don’t match.
Day one dlc? Delicious day one dlc, because we LOVE having to pay for stuff that’s already in the game. People who make day one DLC’s should be lined up and thrown into the sea to make an example.
The game just doesn’t fit with the IP of 40K… Orks walking slowly at individual space marines along a lane, a storm raven hovering in one spot for ages just bobbing up and down…
It just feels like an unnecessary game that doesn’t add anything new to the universe, whereas a lot of GW games really represent the IP and the tabletop game really well and immerse the player in the grim dark universe. Not one I’ll be buying.
This looks wretched.
im glad im not the only 1 that thinks this looks like a load of shit
wait there is 1 good thing about this ur not a smurf
Loving the Rhino that repeatedly moves forwards and backwards… This looks rubbish really.
For a second I looked at the still of the video and thought holy s**t they’ve made Dawn of War for IOS, that’s freaking amazing, take my money!!!…then I scrolled down to the screenshots.
Not for me I’m afraid but it might scratch the 40k itch for some folks I suppose.
Whilst not my cup of tea if these cheap and cheerful games possibly encourage people in to the hobby then whats the harm right?
Well…do you WANT people who got encouraged by the product above in the hobby to begin with?
I feel a little disheartened by some of the attitudes showing in this thread. Seriously, people, it smacks of snobbery and elitism.
Just because there were a couple of AAA games means every games got to be AAA? Dawn of War? On your mobile? My S3’s got a fairly big screen but that’s beyond ridiculous. So is it that or nothing?
And as for “…do you WANT people who got encouraged by the product above in the hobby…”!? That attitude will kill your hobby stone dead.
Are we so insecure about the strength of the rest of the IP and the tabletop game itself to excite new players that we’d rather they didn’t show up at all?
Some people will pick up this game, some of those will be curious to find out more about the IP, some of those might play tabletop and some of THOSE will love it, stick with it through thick and thin for years and decades. JUST LIKE THE REST OF US.
If you don’t want that then frankly I think you’re more harm to this hobby than any poxy phone game could be.
As for me personally, I enjoy P’s v Z’s. I love 40k. The opportunity to while away an otherwise dull hour or two mixing that up sounds just fine, thanks.
That particular comment was obviously wrong, but we’re perfectly justified in saying we don’t think a game looks good and/or doesn’t really fit into the universe- both of which I believe to be true with this game.
That’s not to say I wish it wasn’t made or anything like that, of course I don’t, I just don’t like the look of it personally.
@secretgeek I agree with most of what you’re saying – any attention for the IP, GW and by extension the wider hobby is nothing but good for us all, and there is nothing wrong with more stripped down interpretations – or more importantly those that choose to play them. Indeed to suggest otherwise is rather unseemly at best.
Sat here on the iPad air though I don’t think a Dawn of War game (or other GW related AAA game) is at all preposterous. Would I play it on my iPhone – oh hell no – but on the iPad, damn right I would (XCOM just proves what is possible with IOS and there’s been some rather nice looking RTS games made too).
There’s nothing wrong with this at all (I love PvZ, fieldrunners et al too, and I might even give this a go too) , but I reserve the right to wish for other, grander titles too and be disappointed that it’s not something I would hope for.
It’s news announcements like this that bring up the wider issue of IP use in games beyond what is being announced – I read this and it illicted this response from me about the wider issue as I knew nothing about the game prior to reading this. Not trying to make snide comments about people but give constructive criticism in response to a news item that interested me.
I’m also rather taken aback at being labelled as in any way snobbish, elitist, harm to the hobby or that my views are beyond ridiculous (if you are indeed referring to my comment – at least part of it does seem to). If my comment appears as such then I sincerely apologise but respectfully disagree.
Ermm…I actually thought your comment was pretty reasonable for the most part. It was just the general attitude of a fair portion of the thread overall (mostly) not aimed at anyone particular.
And I’m hungry.
Everybody loves a good game and everybody’s got an opinion about what a good game is and that’s how things should be. Viv la difference and all that, absolutely.
What gets me riled is the sentiment that there can only ever be a particular type of good game. That because they don’t like the look of this game that everybody who does is somehow lesser beings in the eyes of the Emperor.
Kids will play this game and they might like it. I know mine probably will. I want that. Our hobby needs new blood before we all become crusty curmudgeons bemoaning the glorious days of 7.5.2 edition.
Yes, it’s shallow. Yes, there definitely could bigger games that we would sell our significant others for (XCOM – DOW mash up?) but let’s give this one some room too.
Re: Announced IP – there is a part of me that is wondering whether that was a deliberate strategy to avoid the tidal wave of sentiment, as expressed above, building up too much before its release so that it at least gets a chance at pulling in some newer players.
Amen to that brother. It just got my goat as a teacher who has spent no little time trying to bring on that next gen with clubs and such to come across that way – ridiculous but there you go. I read back some of the other comments though and they were as you said, dismissive without elaboration (perhaps even mine to a degree too). Forgive me if I pricked too easily.
I think you’re right about the announcement too. Established fans know what pardon the term ‘quality’ of stuff can be produced from the IP and some are obviously going to be peeved if future output is perceived to begin to deviate from this trend. I agree this could be really fun and play a useful role too I just worry about the wider implications of a future of stripped down, free-to-play, social gaming and micro-transactions (see Dungeon Keeper IOS). I don’t like what it’s doing to kids too but that’s an entirely different issue! I do think that that perception is at the root of a lot of the negative sentiment though and I think it’s healthy that people can express that as well as their high hopes for it here out of the way. BUT ideally this should always be in a constructive way.
I don’t know if it’s an age/generational thing though but I do think that many people don’t often see beyond the bigger picture… Do I like this or do I not? I think that’s as far as many go when they read and comment. It’s good to stop and consider the wider implications sometimes though and I’m glad now that I was prompted to this evening over this story – BoW Ben you’ve done your job magnificently !
Sorry if I bored the pants of anyone with this guys!
Glad to see that discussion has developed on this! For what it’s worth I stand by what I said at the top of the page. I went into writing about it to lambast it and essentially throw it aside but after reading the previews it actually looks like it could be a bit of fun.
It’s certainly not Dawn of War or Space Marine – or even Space Hulk, but it does look like it could be a nice bit of fun for when you’re bored and wanting to waste a few minutes with some mindless slaughter.
It’s why I’m not throwing aside the Space Wolf game either which got a lot of heat when it was first announced. It might end up being pretty neat.
BoW Ben
well ive got space crusade on the amiga that is about 20 years old and it looks way better than this and I think games like this will not encourage people to get into the hobby
looks simply crap
