Warhammer 40,000’s Humble Drop Pod Finally Gets An Update

Games Workshop has finally updated the humble Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Drop Pod. A new plastic kit is coming down the pipeline that you'll be able to use for deep striking your army behind enemy lines.

The new version of the Space Marine Drop Pod has been tweaked and updated. The Storm Bolter and Deathwind Launcher mounted behind the occupants have been removed and the fiddly doors that were up, down or wherever they cared to be are now firmly rooted in an open position. This means there will be no room for rule interpretations when it comes to where you measure from when it's on the tabletop.

The kit is also going to be significantly easier to build, which is nice to hear. It will also have a new Datasheet that will be available as a free download once it has been released. The box will contain enough components to build two Drop Pods. Suddenly, the prospect of making a hard-hitting Space Marine force dropping from orbit doesn't feel like such a challenge.

So, it’s always open or are those rocks removable?
Tactical space rocks.
If those are indeed part of the door, this is the worst kit redesign, ever.
Worst, I say.
IT will be highly annoying if those rocks are molded on. “Nah, you can’t build it with (partially) closed doors!”
The good news is the Warhammer site says rocks are separate pieces. Bad news is the doors are molded in the open position . Maybe kit bash an older kit with variations of open doors to match the new ones when they arrive . I wonder what the $ value will be now these only come as a 2 pack ?
Wait so you get TWO pods, AND free terrain rocks? Holy value, GW! 👀
I’m guessing there will be a run on old kits then. It’s not hard to magnetize the doors – maybe little Timmy can’t, because he would end up magnetizing his fingers, but the average person can.
Little Timmy will have trouble magnetising as I suspect the kit will cost an arm and leg… that’s going to make it tricky to assemble and magnetise.
🤣👍
How long before someone designs closing doors for home printing…
I wonder if they are the same dimensions as the old kit because there are plenty of chapter specific upgrade doors online. Likely won’t take the same designers long to rework them
I am just glad I bought two when they came out for about 15 sterling each. They are still in their boxes.
So getting lots of use! Like my stack of GW. 🤣
True, so true. But then again, I haven’t played the game since 5th!
I think this was how it was for a bit in 3rd edition
TBH, I did this a lot back in the day. Buy stuff, drool over it and just leave it there, while I go buy something else.
well … how else are you going to build that pile of opportunity ?
Actually assembling and painting things within a week of buying them seems like too much of an actual hobby. 😉
@limburger within a week – what are you, a madman?!? Don’t you know that every hobbyist must have an incomplete pile, and if ever they finish all their models, that’s when Death comes for you! Beware! Beware!
Why buy these? Could you not just say you have deployed via drop pod?
No, you need to show the pod. I think. Like saying you have an imaginary Rhino apc doesn’t work, either.
Where’s the profit, I mean ‘fun’ in that ! 😜
Yeah, all you really need is a circular marker. Done.
Along with my blue 28mm discs! I mean, squad of Mureeenz! 🤣
Looks good 👍
Am I the only person confused as to WHY? why did we need a redesign of the drop pod??
I mean the SM roster is a bloated monstrosity as it is, but there’s other factions out there more deserving of new models or redesigns, I mean they could’ve given the Guard an updated Catachan Infantry Squad Kit to match the Command & Heavy Weapon Squads, sure they’re not popular due to them being utter cack but it’d still be on par with the utility of this kit
Money. That’s why 😉
In the immortal words of Gordon Gecko, “Greed is GOOD”.
I too am struggling to see what was wrong with the last drop pod kit, i assume this one is just bigger to fit the new scale of stuff?
