great series by bintykins , happy sunday everyone.
😀
Happy Sunday!
40k weekend would be a good laugh, and I believe I still have all my Lego, although the majority of my kits were broken down for building into my own stuff.
Happy sunday !!! 🙂
for more fakery look up the camoflague unit on wikipedia.
Not just any any happy Sunday! Happy Zombies and Chocolate day!
Hoppy Sunday!
Happy Easter Sunday!
Happy Sunday!
In case anyone is interested there is a new version the tree woman from the guy who did the ultraforge sculpts. It is part of the creature caster kickstarter which has finished now, but i am guessing it will be commercially avaliable at some point in the not too distant future.
Video and pics are below.

The 40K connoisseur event I’d love to atend, but since my Ultramarines were A collected over 20+ years so have a wide range of paintjob qualities, and are B 10-a-penny Smurfs that everyones fought, I feel I may be disqualified… I’ll still watch the liveblogging though.
I think the 40k event sounds really cool and would definitely apply if I was able when it came up.
Happy Easter Sunday y’all!
Nice weekender, last year I bought 2 Lego mindstorms kits to build robots with my 6 year old kids and they have been loving it, now they make their own systems and with a little help they program astonishingly complex routines for their age, for me lego is the perfect toy.
HAPPY EASTER SUNDAY.
🙂
Happy Sunday
thanks for another great show
Some of my first memory of gaming is useing Lego for RPG, nice and easy
Happy Easter-Sunday guys! The vid is odd to watch for me again. Had that prob in the past. I watch in IE11 and when switching to full screen the people get to be pixly..the backround is sharp…odd.
Happy Sunday, and Easter…great show guys
Ahh lego… yes it is expensive, but my 6 yo loves it and creates all sorts with it. @warren the issue I have we build a set and then within days it’s broken down by him and added to the lego crate so he can do his own stuff which is kind of how I used to play and sounds like how you described playing with it…but the modeller in me is like Nooooo it is a completed set how can you break it down.. but it’s encouraging creativity right…lol
I’ve never had a mini that wasn’t bashed into a better one. Probably because of Lego.
Happy Easter Sunday!!
1. Re GW being more… ‘relaxed’; my flags told me last week that restrictions were being relaxed on him selling GW stuff through eBay and the like. Interesting!
2. Re 40k weekend. Firstly 12 people would need 11 games each to play each other. So how about 3 groups of 4; Imperial, chaos & neutral. Each player plays 3 games against each other group, maybe chucking in a couple of battle-brothers games? It’ll help you filter the applications to ensure a good mix.
Warren rediscovers LEGO! We have all been dismissive of something through a mix of ignorance and old fart prejudice; whether it be a form of music, game, technology or whatever.
LEGO is a fascinating company in many respects, I looked into its history etc in the last couple of years due to some big anniversaries. Some things to look into:
1. The solid foundation that is the ‘Lego System’. Simple, but brilliant idea that means pieces from 50+ years ago are still 100% compatible.
2. The ethics of the company. Right up there in terms of worker rights, ecology etc. Not easy for a company that at its core produces non-decomposible things out of fossil fuel based plastics.
3. And this is where comparisons become interesting ( as a gamer and someone who has been involved in product management and marketing); their near collapse about 15 years ago, the product strategy that got them there ( they’d tried to adapt but struggled) and the product / marketing strategy that got them out. Their mix of IP, both inhouse and licensed. Their attempt to open lots of stores on high streets/ malls that didn’t work out as planned. Their ability to appeal to users of all ages, rather than focus on getting new-entrants in at the cost of alienating the older groups. Sound familiar to anyone that’s been watching GW over the last few years?
I know engineers, architects and authors all of whom will quote Lego as a key tool in allowing them to explore their interests as a child in a world of boundless imagination. My son’s at Uni but still has Lego all over his room at home, some of it from big boxes of bricks, but with recognisable and expensive pieces from specific kits. At the end of the day it’s just a bigger, more varied selection of Lego than I had nearly 50 years ago, just in the 21st century.
On the same theme, my son’s about to be inducted at LegoLand Windsor for a summer job… Oh dear, better spend all my money at Salute just in case!
Can’t argue that Lego are hugely established and have a great foundation (largest tyre producer in the world I believe) but they are far from an ethical company. They are in partnership with Shell (makes sense for their produce) which I don’t need to bore people with details about drilling in the Arctic etc.
I think the 40K Connoisseur weekend sounds like a lot of fun! I’d definitely want to make my way over to that if it was within my budget.
I’d be totally up for the 40k event..
Great video.
A couple of things, first the 40K thing. As ever, family and life in general mean it would be impractical for me to ever attend, but for what it is worth, it is definitely something I would love to watch on alive blog.
The what’s in the box stuff, aside from his obsession with bases, I thought Darryl’s way of doing unboxings way back when was the best you had. Clear view of the contents plus the end result and a few comments about the models use in game.
Now I know you want to up production values from what you had back then, but as a basic structure of the show that worked perfectly.
I would say that is pretty similar to what we do now with myself and Justin on the unboxings. In most cases we try to show a built example. But you would suggest more chat on in-game use where applicable?
It’s good feedback, don’t get me wrong there. I may need to start using justin as my rules guy more often and maybe cut some of the historical ranting 😉
Keep the ranting as it’s very informative ranting, it would be good to package up the unboxing, building tips and 3 colours up in one video once they were all aired.
I agree with @brucelea . Don’t cut **too** much of the historical content. Nor the “technical” content (what all those knobs and rivets and vents and boxes on the tank actually are). This is particular is where I’ve actually learned a lot from the unboxing episodes I’ve watched. I’d almost be embarrassed to say what I USED to think a lot of those components were.
I think the in game stuff worked very well for Daryll as he mostly did 40K which he knew inside out. With such a wide range of systems now I do understand it would be difficult, I mean, I watch for the models anyway, I’ve never played half the games you unbox stuff for.
I like the rants about things, and if its a model you have useful insight into using, that has a place too. Mainly I think it served as a little extra beyond ‘this is the parts this is the model’ aspect that unboxings can become. Some extra commentary, whether its a rant or idea for use, adds to the unboxings for me at least.
And yes, these last few you have done have been along the lines of the early stuff, and I’ve enjoyed watching them.
I know its incredibly time consuming and may not be practical, but now you have a couple of painters available, a once a month ‘this is what last months unboxings look like painted’ show would also be a good idea. One model from each box you did in the last couple of months maybe painted up?
I think showing the built version is pretty valuable – and a suitable figure for scale is always handy (just in case either John or Justin has uncommonly big or small hands :-)).
OR make it a bit longer and have both? john.
Not sure about the in-game use chat. Needs to be based on context. I don’t play Bolt Action. But I like the unboxings of those products because they can be used in the different games I do play. A lot of chat about how they work in a single game would be of no value to me. Whereas with something for Warmahordes that is almost always going to be used with those rules, it would work.
Visual treat 40k weekend sounds great, I also like the idea of campaign weekends. Unfortunately I can always find too many reasons not to paint so wouldn’t be able to attend.
I loved the End Times. I have played a massive Mega Battle for every book and gone through a fantastic amount of ‘sitting and listening’ when my local games store owners waxed lyrical about the new stories. The final end for most of the characters was very good – especially with Teclis and my Ungrim Ironfist.
I didn’t like the idea of Balthasar Gelt becoming as important as he did for the Dwarfs but we were practically demolished as an empire by that point. The finality of the End Times was a good line to be drawn under the whole background and if there is a ‘human’ left them Sigmar (clearly Sigmar/Karl Franz) will restart the universe again I guess.
When it comes to factions this is what I’ve heard…
Forces of Good – Elves, Dwarfs (now a full Slayer cult) and Men (Empire & Brettonians as a knightly order) which also includes those ‘Paladins of Good’ – so Fantasy Space Marines?
Forces of Chaos – Daemons, Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos – these will be the versus to the ‘fantasy space marines’.
Skaven, Orcs (now combined with Ogres), and the generic Undead seem to be the other armies that are involved in the new change.
…apparently the ‘units popping up for a bit and then vanishing again from shelves’ was a bit of guff though and that’s not happening. It wouldn’t make too much sense to do this as a release schedule.
If I don’t like 9th (I will still buy the book…) then I can always just keep playing 8th and living in the Old World.
BoW Ben
Still sore about my Lizards blasting off again.
BoW Sam
It’s all good. Once the new warhammer world is founded, the Lizardmen will find it, guided by the stars and land to rebuild their civilisation. They’ll also have their own great plan to thwart Chaos. Second times a charm yeah?
agreed, if i dont like 9th just play 8th, i love 8th. i dont mind what they do with the game i will make my own new releases and my own stuff to play it, cus i love it
Happy Sunday!
I have collected legos for around 30 years , and now my daughter loves them, there is a product line named Lego Games, i adquired some of the Heroica series that is bassically a dungeon crawler game, and is a great way of introducing my little daughter into gaming, instruction following, rules, and dice, since you make your tiles of terrain with legos and play with the minifigs as tokens. and after you finish playing they can end being a spaceship or anything they comes up with.
Ps. AFOL(adult fan of lego) is the name we lego fan dads end up with.
licensed themes of lego are more expensive than the city, agents, creator and stuff like that, you can see in the number of pieces proportional to the price (0.50 per piece aprox)
If you were to run the 4ok weekend in the/a summer I’d be very keen 🙂
Not that I think Warren needs an excuse to buy more Legos but here: http://mobileframezero.com/mfz/
The relic stuff looks like a cross between Eureka’s Seven Years picnic teddy bears and Flintloque
The unboxings I have enjoyed the most have been the Bolt Action ones. The history, little anecdotes and use in the game have been interesting.
One thing I would suggest, is more research before filming, especially if it is a unfamiliar game system.
What’s with people putting an s on the end of Lego?
Particularly enjoyed the “HAPPY SUNDAY!” as I’m actually watching it on a Sunday hahah!
Great show guys, talk of previous prizes made me think, was the winner ofr the Dungeon Saga pledge ever announced? Realised after Mantic reopened the pledge manager for the awesome new cases that I don’t remember it being called out.
Hey Sam just to let you know theonyxpath.com does put out official new world of darkness content (both for old and new world of darkness)
I was going to say… “Only big things out have been the 20th anniversary books”.
How about all the 2nd ed NWoD game line books (none of which have needed Kickstarter funding), the massive success of Dark Eras for NWoD on Kickstarter just recently, all the other new editions of Scion, Trinity, Aberrant, Adventure, and of course the long awaited Exalted 3e.
sigh
Actually just listen to Darker Days Radio since we cover all the new OPP news and review the books and interview the writers. Perhaps BoW should syndicate us maybe?
Also @dracs when in doubt about what OPP are doing, just check their Monday Meeting notes. Lots and lots going on (in fact a lot more than even 2 years ago).
White Wolf is dead, but OPP thrives. World of Darkness is flourishing in both New and Classic forms.

happy sunday
40k connoisseur event sound great can’t wait to see the battle reports , hope that we get to see the dock sea board and the ork red october table .
i remember my dad teaching me how engine and hydraulics work with lego techniques
action force sas, q force , baron iron blood and robo skulls
A good catch with that artic exporer set @warzen, we’ve got some bits, my 4yo loves it and enjoys playing with it. Will have to keep my eye open for that set on sale. I love hearing what you have been doing with Savannah and keep thinking I must find time to do something similar with my lad. If you write an adventure game for the artic set please do share it with the rest of us.
In terms of the unboxing @johnlyons, I like the format with the built model at the end and enjoy having a regular dose with single models. The historical context for the Bolt Action models has been interesting, but the game context would certainly enhance the videos, particularly with the non-historical models.
Totally agree. I will have to start getting more up to speed with rules and such. I have always relied on Justin but I gotta catch up 😛
Happy Easter Sunday!
@johnlyons- Myself and several club members picked up Relics about a month ago and we’ve been loving it so far (I went for Nuems myself as I liked the minis, then I read the fluff and discovered what they actually were! 🙂 )
Looking forward to seeing what you do with them
Happy Sunday Guys,
Looking forward to seeing the the guides on Warmachine and hordes i had looked at it before but got a little bit lost.
Nice to see john looking at a new system and please dont give up on Dropzone commander its a fun game to play.
Now if i remember my rightly my old Lego collection went through the dishwasher in one of them net bags you get for the washing machine and then got past on to the next Generation now that’s good fun and value for money.
See you guys soon hopefully.
Nothing worse than not being able to get wood!!!
A flames of war version of the super 40k weekend would be the best event ever!
@warzan I completely understand the publishing side of things. Having worked in the media industry since 97, and knowing how the Internet has changed things in that time is phenomenal. People now expect news instantaneously. It has also changed our hobby dramatically as teen magazines and fanzines were the only way to get hobby news, and there were several for awhile in the 80’s. Now with the flick of a button we can access any number of websites with articles and news.
Yet the one thing is has done for the hobby than anything else, is to allow members of the community to publish. Yes, there is drivel amongst the pure gold but we now have tons of goodies to sift through unlike my teenage years.
Back in 2009 it allowed myself with a group of friends to set up Irregular Magazine, well actually truth be told it started as a drunken bet, but the less said about that the better. Before the Internet and access to publishing software producing something similar back in the day would have been a scrappy black and white poorly printed item.
With modern tech we were able to produce a full colour PDF for folk to download. We started off with a team of 8 people, but by 2011 we saw people drop off due to a number of reasons, which was why we stopped producing the mag in late 2013. We produced Irregular like a magazine and without a core team it’s quite a difficult task to do. Also one of the hardest things is sitting one great ideas, articles etc until the publishing date, whereas with a blog, website you can publish almost instantly.
We brought Irregular out of retirement this year, but with a team of three, it’s a slow process. I can understand why Visions was brought out, it didn’t appeal to me and the price didn’t either. They were hoping to produce a product that in reality dosen’t require as much production time as the monthly WD did and still keep a monthly publication in non GW stores. Unfortunately for GW most people weren’t infused to buy into the idea, because they use the Internet to get images of nicely painted minis, which they see as being free, rather than buying a monthly for the content they can get online.
Personally I would have made Visions the Sci Fi/fantasy equivalent of the military modelling mags. Featuring tutorials from staff in GW and some of the Demon winners. These would be aimed at people wanting to take their painting from table top to the next level, but that’s my opinion of what I’d have done. It’s a difficult choice of what to do, GW could have invested in an idea like that and it still may have the issues that the current Visions has.
Going into print in the age of the Internet is fraught with problems, it’s a costly gamble and when we were producing regular issues of Irregular we had people offer investment for print, but it was never a realistic investment. Distributing a regular monthly publication and paying staff is quite costly. To break even every month you need a very large readership. Whilst we were producing Irregular there at least two multi gaming fantasy/Sci fi gaming mags hit the market and very quickly disappeared.
The way Beasts is done is the way forward, because the Internet allows you to utilise more forms of media and you can add articles on a daily basis. On Irregular we try to publish every 3-4 months which means sitting on articles for far too long.
I think the 40k aspect is a really good idea, people having to apply with their army is a great idea to make sure its really high quality stuff. I know it is something I would be interested in.
Would have been a happier Sunday, but the video stopped at 45ish minutes for me, I tried half a dozen times, either the video stopped, or the audio =(
Don’t believe it, first my mate Hengest wins the starter force (which he still hasn’t received BTW :)) and now he wins the rules! Talk about a double lottery win!
Good show today!
When it comes to making something in print there is one thing I think you should do. I’d like to see a Best of Beasts of War Annual Coffee table book. You could do a printed hardback larger than A4 size coffee table book, that collects all of the years highlights. It could contain pictures of the events gone by, pictures of miniatures painted in 3 coluors up, articles on demo games you’ve done (showing off both minis and your great tables in detail and exclusive interviews with the winners of your awards and pictures of their minis and games. A row of those books would sit nicely in my hobby room and on my coffee table. If you released it just before Christmas, I know exactly what I’d be reading during my Christmas vacation.
Warren: If you love lego with your daughter, look at Mobile Frame Zero. http://mobileframezero.com/mfz/
I would definitely be interested in the 40k weekend, times and finances allowing of course!
Anoother great XLBS guys! REALLY looking forward to Warzone week! I used to be a Freelancer for WZ back in the day! Back when they were Heartbreaker Hobbies! Really hoping someone brings Chronopia back as it was such a great setting.
re 40k weekend. The fantasy one is where I’m at. Let us know guys.
re lego. Recently spent an awesome Saturday afternoon with my 2 grand daughters (4 and 6) building a riding school kit. Lego (particularly space lego) was a huge part of my childhood so the nostalgia effect was huge. But watching the girls work as a team to get parts of the kit together was the best bit.
happy Easter Sundry, a 40K week would be good, Lego has changed over the years like computer graphics now it actually looks like what you are building not just coloured blocks in the shape of a what is made.
How about this for a Lego kit?
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Lego%20&FORM=BILH1#view=detail&id=039B72E70AE3E0104597F4EBC72BEAC66CCFE3C7&selectedIndex=168
I like the regular unboxing videos and I like that we get to see a built version at the end, the only thing I’d suggest is to branch out a bit more, especially with plastic kits – Malifaux has a ton of great plastic kits and for some strange reason they don’t show photos of the models on the boxes either (which is strange a the few kits iv seen look really good!) so id like to see more of that system.
@warzan: Liked your speach about Lego, dude. I think my geek self started to express itself with these… All of my paperboy money went into medieval Lego kits. I had a big castle and several smaller ones. I had a Robin Hood style faction with tree houses… I used to arrange all my kits on the living room floor and organise big battles between my knights and my rebels, hidden in the forests arounds the castle. Good times… 🙂
I might have missed some math, but wouldn’t 12 players have to do 11 games to face of against every other player? If 6 games is all the time you have, then 7 people.
@warzan & @lloyd The connoisseur 40K weekend sound like a great idea. I’m not a player and I definitely don’t have 2500 point of army; BUT if you are doing some more boards how about a Hobby Lab return detailing the full build (like the one your younger twins did in 4 parts…..)? They are really good inspirational sources for those of us not blessed with that particular line of ingenuity.
No Holly? I missed her dulcet tones.
Let’s see. If you had 12 players, to play every other player once would be 11 games. Because, Math.
Lego. I remember when I was a child and I got all of my star wars figures from Kenner. I had a land speeder and an x-wing and even a Deathstar play set for the figures (even came with a garbage monster. I told my own new stories with those very specific items. Lego is no different. So what if you build the Lego Simpson’s house. Kids will play with that, making up their own stories. Then there is Lego Technic. You won’t usually find Lego Technic in toy stores, it is more mail order and educational science toy type fare. You can do some amazing things with lego technic, it becomes a stepping stone to science. Check out the youtube videos of lego technic solves rubiks cube.
@warzan: I remember like you Warren about Lego and building an multicoloured xWing (in the 70’s). I do have some of the original Lego star wars sets that came out in 1999, I also have a set of Indiana Jones lego and more recently a mini batwing and batmobile and i still have fun with Lego and I’m now looking at the Hulkbuster set which does look wonderful set.
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday from across the pond!!!!!!!
Happy Sunday, Lego rocks!! bit scared of whats to come with fantasy from GW, i hope its going to be cool. 🙂
I love the idea of a ‘high end’ event for 40K. I could not participate, but seeing well recorded games on nice tables with play by play action would be really interesting.
As for Legos, Warren, I’d recommend checking out Mobile Frame Zero:
http://mobileframezero.com/mfz/
Mobile Frame Zero is a Gundam-esque mini ruleset for Lego robots, but you build the robots with whatever pieces you have. It’s sets that you buy, it’s just a ruleset, and the PDF is available for free. MF0 was the first Kickstarter I backed!
Eh, should say ‘It’s not sets that you buy, just a ruleset.’ Where is the edit button?
Lego does amazing stuff. I am a huge fan of the Star Wars Legos they do, and have just ordered the 1500 piece x-wing.
I am very interested in what the nedt warhammer looks like, and since the world has blown up and become reduced to a hand grasping at a mote of light, everything can happen. I think it is a brave move by GW.
The 40k weekend sounds like a lot of fun, especially in the it will be non competarive and that he hobby aspect is so imporatant.
We lost a gaming buddy to LEGO – he’s still a mate, but has given up on gaming in favour of building LEGO kits/dioramas…
Happy monday (I’m a bit late).
Great show. Laughed my behind off on the Wood Elves comments.
For the unboxing videos, my 2 cents :
1 : If you unbox two or three stuffs in a video (like you used to for some time), i think it would be more practical if all models unboxed belonged to one game or range : Three Bolt Action kits together, three 40k kits together… You get the point. It would be easier to find particular videos later on.
2 : PLEASE DO NOT CUT @johnlyons HISTORICAL RANTS. Or any rant, for that matter. It’s always interresting to have a point of view on the kit and how it plays.
3 : Might be hard to pull off but it would be great if you could get a host based on the content of the boxes : Christian for 40k, John for WW2 stuff, Loyd for Dust stuff… I know it’s a tall order though.
For @johnlyons : BTW thanks again for the normandy trip. Are you going to the next “tanks in town” event in Belgium? I understand you’ve already been there. Is it Worth the trip?
Nice one to all.
Good show this week. Nice variety. Glad to see some Warmachine/Hordes content. Looking forward to Justin and John’s WM/H show.
I was just about to cancel my former White Dwarf subscription, will be interesting to see if some of the White Dwarf articles from the weekly mag make it into Visions.
@gamerdad
Awesome and inspirational! I myself began making my first “miniature game” with lego and d6 die, inspired from older kids playing warhammer. Just let your kid take apart all that has been built and let them be creative and reconfigure the sets afterwards ^^
Justin and John should look into the journeymans league rules for warmahords were doing it at the moment at my club. It is a good intro to the game and has good structured slow grow rules. You can download the rules for free from privateer press
Great show guys!
I don’t have kids, but I love @warzan‘s ‘gamer dad’ updates. Makes me wish I did! (I think you’re right to hold off on structuring her play with lego. Let her use her imagination, and start with rules if she’s interested. Or keep the rules in Scooby Doo and see if she wants to bring them in to Lego or cut the rules from Scooby Doo.)
The 40K event sounds great. I have no painted armies – certainly not complete ones, but if I knew well in advance what the date was, it might inspire me to get cracking. But never mind me – I think the idea is a great one. Also something that could work for other games too. For various reasons it makes sense to try it with 40K, but if successful, I’d love to see a boutique Dropzone Commander weekend, for example.
I think I have said it before but On The Table is a great magazine show. It also is aimed at a different audience than the main site.
The audience will then transfer to the main site and enjoy what you have built here.
On the Table is what brought me to Beasts of War
The old On the Table show was what brought me to Beasts of War
Graet show – best bit daddy’s gaming – @warzan – you have to do it more often!
You’re never too old to play with Legos! My family has always had them. Anyone with an affinity for puzzles (Ahem, like myself), loves them. 😀 I just wish they were more affordable- the upside is the ability to repurpose them and build other things.
Print is dead. Keep doing what you’re doing. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I can totally understand the lego fever, It was the one toy my father would sit down and play with my siblings and myself. We loved it until the last piece disappeared into the vacuum cleaner (lego isn’t always liked by mothers lol). It was a great way to use my own imagination to create my own stories. I also use it as my excuse for my extreme love of minecraft but I wont go there today, lol. My last lego purchase was for a hobbit house, which sits proudly on my bedroom shelf. mmm I realy wont orthanc, maybe one day.
I’d love a 40k weekend event and would try to attend, though my army might not be good enough. Its a good gaming standard but not really amazing. It would still be great to watch coverage of the event if I couldn’t attend though.
Great show again guys. Really nice to see 5 of the team get involved over the course of the show. I am really looking forward to John and Justin doing almost a Tale of 4 Gamers with Warmahordes. I’ve had a Convergence starter set for ages and need some motivation to get it built and painted (going to be my first foray into NMM – what an idiot!).
John, Relics is a fantastic game and the models are getting better and better. The Ridend Knights coming up are fantastic (and not just because the main sculptor is a mate of mine). I’m currently working on Vaettir because….faeries of death! I’ll see if there’s a thread for ongoing Relics projects on here as people can use that as joint motivation?
Happy Monday too peeps 🙂
Hi guys,
Very good video. Loved all of it. As a single father who doesent get custody of his son as often as he would like with shift work and distance, it is refreshing to see the ‘daddy gamer’ segment, I think it would be nice if this became a recurring thing, or its own segment even if a smaller one.
It actually inspired me, and I am writing up a small rule set for the single random lego figures you get in packets in the likes of Tesco. ‘Lego Wars’. Its just for fun, and it is derivative as heck when it comes to rules originality but I hope to test it out with some of my yougner adult friends who have their own little lego figure collections. I’ll post the first draft of the ruels when I get home, where would be the best place on the forum to post them up?
The 40k weekender event sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to participate assuming time off from work and money aren’t an issue, as I have a battle company of Iron Hands already paitned. What I would suggest is the following. Warren mentioned how cool he found the AdMech releases in a previous post: how about a Mars and adeptus mechanicus themed event? Not all the boards need be themed but it can be about a multi faction mars force looking for resources, STCs, alien technology and fighting against opposing forces that have a conflict of interest?
PS: Loving the warmachine tale of two gamers idea too.
@warzan and jon
the tricorn was more a 1750s head dress and was well out of style by the penisular war, the waterloo campaign and by the time the baker rifle was in use.
it would look out of place to have tricorns along side the sharpes rifle style. however it wouldnt stop you from doing it ‘just because’ lol
My mother in law as a joke this Xmas brought me a star wars lego set after I hadn’t touched Lego in over 25 years and I was so excited! She actually said to my wife afterwards that she had never given an adult a gift for Xmas and seen so much excitement once it had been opened. 🙂
It has now of course created a monster in me that can’t stop looking at all the great kits out there. I’m just trying to get the money together for the avengers helicarrier
I also have a 9 wk old daughter now as well and can’t wait to start her on her journey into Lego and building all wonderful things. It’s great listening to you warren so I can get ready for things to come.
Warren if you read this I think you can get Scooby do Lego kits now as well.
I’d be up fr a 40k weekend if not played for some time so should be nice to give the new collection a run
Great show again 🙂
Although no real interest in WFB it’ll be interesting to see how they roll out the background to the conclusion of the end times, and then beyond.
Please keep the hobby time chat in, although interesting to see about different fantasy type backgrounds be interesting to see you guys tie in with historical events and the gaming side.
As an easy slide into an idea for it and a gaming challenge to you Sah! @Warren maybe something for Waterloo (bit late for Gallipoli) after Hoth and if goes ok maybe something for Agincourt in October.
Maybe something Orisanky can help with?
A connoisseur event, for 40K or any other popular game sounds great. I have mountains of mini’s for various game systems. Only drawback is that none if them is painted up to be a full army. A hop about between projects too much.
A 40K event might be a nice motivation to finally get my Tau army finished though. Better let me know well in advance if and when it is going to happen. And keeping it narrative instead of competitive only increases the appeal to me.
Awesome show! I especially loved the Gamer Dad section, aw! Can you imagine if we all had gamer dads!? What a wonderful world to live in ^_^
Personally, I can not wait for Justin and John to bring more WMH content. Because I’m SELFISH and I want everyone to play maaai gaaame ;D
About 40k weekend! I will not be able to be there either way because I am from Greece but I will enjoy to see videos with full painted armies of course and with some little reviews on each fight.
Great show guys, nice to know im not the only one falling in the lego trap. Lego, beer and bacon the 3 best things from my country.
Unboxing. John, and Justin. Like you are two instead of just 1, the conversations you have about historie, lore and so on, makes it great. Maybe a litte game facts could be usefull too 😉
And now you going to play wamahorde, and building up you forcers. Looking forward to that. But for some reason i would love to see a demo game of bolt action between you too .
@warzen
Not sure if you guys have heard of this. I’ve played one game of it with my little brother a few years past. It was a good little rules set.
Check it out!

Tempted to upload my self written codexes and rule book for fantasy if 9th is boring, needs a lot of updating but basically it was a very math hammered balanced as much as I could make it version of 7th edition fantasy with a fair bit of changes to the play system. I wrote as a joke to see if it could be done and actually ended up putting a lot of time into it.
The 40K event sounds great. I love the stories about your adventures with your kids and gamming.

The Batman song
I listen to the video while at work and my co-workers thought I was choking on something when Christian said that “they couldn’t get wood”. Yes, I’m a 10-year-old boy at heart, but what maniac isn’t?
Regarding legos, while in college, I purchased a pack of legos and dropped them off at the library lounge reserved for those in the honors programs (heavy on electrical engineering and hard sciences majors). Soon, the pile of legos grew and by the end of the quarter there was a large tub. It was considered good form after final exams to come in and decompress with a bit of lego building before going to get a drink.
Warren as a dad of two daughters, a 2 year old and a 7 month old I always enjoy hearing about your gamer dad ideas. I too am keen to introduce my girls into the hobby and appreciate that it can and does start before their first game set. I have tried similar things using moshi monsters and zomblings but will take a look at Lego now as well for the reasons you outlined. That gaming table is looking really nice too, will have to employ some of the techniques on my own when I start one in the summer to replace the GW grass mat which has been used for my games over the years. Thanks for the ideas.
Great Weekender. I love LEGO as a kid. There was a series (don’t if it’s still around) called “LEGO Technik”. There you had very technical parts, like grinders and gears and crank shafts and cam shafts. You could build cars with moving parts and so on. It was great.
As a father of 5, I’ve seen my fair share of lego sets. In the end, the best value and the most fun was had by just the plain tubs of bricks and letting their imaginations go wild. We do have a few arctic sets and city sets thrown in there though.
The truly best thing that lego has ever created is actually their robotic kits. I teach kids classes in it and run a couple local kids teams into robotics tournaments. The amount of value for your investment in that robotics platform is just absolutely amazing. You can’t really even put a price on it, to be honest.
Was loving the show and then you hit home with Legos… Me and my 7 yo son have a huge Lego collection. We have collected most of the Fire truck stuff since I’m a volunteer fire fighter and several other family members are too. But you hit the nail on the head about putting them together and what they get out of it. Loved that tidbit you shared, and it made my day. Thank You
