Become A Legend of the Old World in Hero’s Call
January 3, 2012 by brennon
Fantasy Flight Games have released more information on a new upcoming expansion for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game, Hero's Call. Check out the newest information below!
The newest resource expansion for the roleplaying game allows you to advance to some of the peaks of heroism in the Old World and expand your repertoire of skills, both mundane and magical. New classes are also on offer and you can see one of them below...
And some of the new skill cards below too. Wizards and Priests have access to new magic and prayers as well as Epic action cards allowing for some truly amazing feats in the face of the hordes of Destruction.
I was a great fan of the Warhammer Roleplay in Second Edition but haven't looked at it in this new incarnation. It seems pretty innovative though.
Have you guys enjoyed this system and plan to get hold of this expansion?

Unless the suppliment has the possibility to start an adventure with high level characters I see little use with my gaming group. In adventures I’ve run myself and taken part as a player, the player characters rarely survive to see the end. Or some of them do return maimed, corrupted or insane but most of them die a violent death at some forgotten and unexplored corner of the Old World. Still it’s nice to see the iconic Warhammer villains and heroes to make an appearance in the roleplaying version.
In my mind, 3rd edition seems to emphasize more of the storytelling aspect of roleplaying than the previous editions. I really like how the dice mechanics emphasize this point. Combat is fast and deadly which in turn makes the players feel the hostility of the Old World and makes them more cautious around fighting. Game master can usually interpret the game situation with the dice and some on-the-fly rules when player’s throw the unexpected twist on a well planned scenario.
What I dislike is the fact that some skill, gear, etc. related information is only available in the cards. Which are by the way handy keeping the players informed of their abilities and special gear. The suppliment books should have pages dedicated to the cards like in the current Player’s Guide. This would make the digital downloads more viable as at the moment you can’t get all the information supplied with boxed sets. An innovative and skilled GM can usually work his way around these, but new player’s might be troubled when a certain card turns out to be missing.
So in the end this edition has its pros and cons. All in all I’m liking the new edition and can recommend it certainly for new Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay gamers. Old veterans might still prefer the 2nd (or even the 1st) edition because of the wealth information available.
Much too flashy for my tastes, this 3rd edition …
