The Weekender: What Does The End Times Mean For Warhammer?
October 11, 2014 by lloyd
Loads of awesome things to talk about this weekend including the upcoming Infinity & Myth weeks that are going to be packed full of awesome content on both games!
As well as the themed weeks Ben will be at Warhammer Fest on Saturday & Sunday taking pictures and then uploading them to show off whether or not the new venue and style of event works!
Continuing the theme of Warhammer we'll also be chatting about the new Blightking miniatures for Chaos that leaked and how The End Times will shape the future of Fantasy.
A chock-a-block episode!

Good episode guys. That tank looks cool. I can see it going ork very well.
The X-Wing was the highlight. As for Warhammer: The End Times, it sounds like a plague of hemorrhoids.
Great show, can’t wait to see whats going on with the X-Wing tomorrow morning… Love that tank well… Have a fab day one and all!!
Great show guys, good start to my day! Think you forgot to mention the competition winners that Warren mentioned at the start though 😀
OOPS!!!! I think your right lol
I’ll fix that next week 🙂 Sorry I think we got carried away!
At least that gives me another week of thinking I might win or not knowing that I didn’t win at least 😀
Ainsty Castings do a range of subway terrain which always reminds me of AAWiL.
Another great episode
The Warhammer setting used to have its tongue firmly stuck in its cheek and was filled with humour. In particular check out the 1st ed Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay stuff for lots of examples of it. That said, it wasn’t in any way cartoony. I understand why Lloyd would think there’s a dichotomy there, but there wasn’t. The setting was very low fantasy and grimy. Nurgle was about as disgusting as product aimed at kids could be. I do think the art direction has gone in a very bland and cartoony direction.
As an aside on Blood Bowl, it isn’t officially part of the Warhammer IP because of how out there it is. When it was created the IP wasn’t quite as nailed down as it is now and the approach of the design studio was much more freewheeling and creative. It is a good example of the sense of humour the setting used to have, but without being cartoony. Speaking of the 80s GW, today is the birthday of the Mighty Dark-Winged Avenging Lord of Chaos himself, Bryan Ansell. Happy birthday, Bryan!
Does that mean the two commentators from Blood Bowl don’t exist either? Damn! I really wanted to kill those two on a battlefield some day lol
Forgot the RRP Stars popping up at the end of the army painter advert sorry segment. 😉
Those dice do need charging 😉
Whatever you do, when charging those dice, don’t cross the beams!
I’ve never been a big fan of Warhammer Fantasy, but listening to you guys talk about the fluff has sort of sparked my interest. Lots of googling to do now 😀 Great show.
For Sam – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf5HCdvz6u0
Great show guys.Anymore news on your 40k campaign as haven’t heard anything for a bit.
We’re just getting some other stuff out of the way first 🙂
what a cool little tank
Looking forward to you guys doing a Warzone week 🙂
Someone please tell Sam that Zombies and vampires aren’t real! No need to be terrified, sleep safe. 😉
How do you know they’re not real? Have you ever seen one? Huh, have you? If you haven’t seen one how do you know they’re not real? I bet you’re not even real, you’re just an agent of the zombies come to lure us into a false sense of security and then BOOM!
You got me! Be afraid, be very afraid! Mwah
Zombies are easy to see. Check out YouTube for videos people posted of raves and techno dance clubs back in the ’90’s and you’ll see plenty of zombies (some would call them “bombed out of their gourd on x” but is that the truth….)
As for Vampires have you met a lawyer working at major law firm, at least in the US? Or an investment banker? Easy to leave a liter or two shier after that encounter 🙂
Hi guys, AAWIL definitely scared the c**p out of me when I was young, it wasn’t helped by a moonlit stroll across dartmoor one misty night, a sheep coughed (they sound other-worldly human when they cough) and I did a Linford Christie back to my accommodation. Liking the tank and agree with @nsogre they will ork up pretty good!
Nice episode. Ramshackle makes good inexpensive gaming models. Strange to think that GW would alter the WFB fluff so much.
I was quite surprised at my reaction to those new Nurgle models, which was something that I don’t think that I’ve experienced from a GW miniature before…
Which was… absolutely nothing.
I’m used to having some sort of view (one way or another), but “nothing”?
They really do just look like the conversions that I used to do back in the old Realms of Chaos days. I don’t know, maybe I’ve just been spending too much time looking at Corvus Belli photos over the past few weeks.
Nagash defeats the Tomb Kings and kills Apophas when the assassin tries to kill him and fails. Khalida bends the knee and Nagash takes his army north to wage war with Chaos, but Settra has survived and someone else is invested in helping him.
Anyway that tank would really look good in a friend of mine collection. 🙂
OK Thanks for the correction, sorry like I said it’s been a while since I read it, I was borrowing a friend’s copy.
Great stuff guys – can’t help but think the Ramshackle Tank would look great ‘Orkified’
The ramshackle tank is slowly growing on me.
Massive episode and only a few minutes of Mantic love… 🙁 When is Warpath week lol
I’m here for the tank, but I’ve got to say that mantic makes awesome minis if you need a horde fast, and the new zombie bitz look excellent.
I have just gotten back into wargaming after a 14 year hiatus and have found your website and show and love it. With that tank and how solid it look you really could crush your enemies and drive them before you. Once again great show I’m one hooked Aussie wargammer
Hey thulmann welcome back to wargaming and to Beasts of War.
Loving the tank, can’t wait to color it blue..
Great start to a saturday… first 30 mins consists of three men and a cup (or two) talking about all sorts of s#!t including vamoires, werewolves and banshees… with an occasional mention of games along the way.
I’m rather pleased with the End of Times minis and books. I think GW has to focus on its best armies for Warhammer Battle and that may mean merging or eliminating one or two. Kill the idols and introduce new heroes!
Zombies would make for a nice group of Nurgle Cultits.
Okay, I now need a laser pointer to annoy my friends with…
The fluff of the end times, specially the Bretonian bit has me slightly interested in it now. Let’s see where it goes
Settra is torn asunder by Nagash but is reanimated again by what is heavily implied to be the 4 Chaos Gods.
The Horned Rat manifests in the midst of the COuncil of Thirteenth and kills the Seerlord, but he doesn’t manifest bodily.
Ariel, Queen of the Wood Elves isn’t sacrificed; she’s still in her forest, albeit ill and probably dying.
Thanks, knew I’d got some of it wrong. It has been a while since I read it and that was a friend’s copy, so I never got the chance to really dig into the fluff.
tanks alot for the show.
tank looks amazing
That flamer tank looks amazing!
Just when I thought I had exhausted my interest in Deadzone they release these Zombies and a new campaign book!
If Warren was scared of the Wizard Of Oz, how did he feel about ZardOz:
I’d lay money that that links to a photo of Sean Connery in a mankini 😉
What else?
🙂
WHY DID I CLICK THAT!!!????
love the heavy weathering on the Pug
Awesome stuff as always lads.
I Used to crew tanks scim sultan chally 1 ( B sqn LG).
That tank looks better than any of em. givz.
Essen SPIEL is indeed fantastic. I’ve been there the last years. 2013 for the full 4 days, which was fantastic. You get to meet so many great people and get to play soooo many different and new games. It is also absolutely worth going there as a war gamer.
I’ve posted a recount of my trip there last year on my Blog. If you understand German (or just want to look at pictures) you can read it here: http://www.spitl.de/spiel-2013/
Beware though – the text is rather long (even though I’ve only written about my personal highlight per day).
I’ll be there again this year (albeight only Saturday and Sunday). Anybody else going to Essen?
Best regards
Bartender
Great show guys, thanks!!
great show guys glad to see you talking about wfb be very surprised if they drop skaven though has while certainly controversial rules wise are probably right up their with woc, empire,o&g and vc in terms of sales
One worry for me is that this “End of Times” is GW seeing sales dropping below the point where it’s worth supporting the product line any more and seeing if they can squeeze a bit more money out of the line before closing it down, rather than rebooting it… the very name brings that possibility ever closer. 🙁
As for Blood Bowl, I’ve always seen it as a “no set world” parody of the main Warhammer universe – a chance for GW to poke fun at itself and our real world without having to worry about plot, fluff accuracy and constant rules versions or army lists, but instead have fun, both with fluff and sculpts. It’s just a real shame that GW let it die after burying it so deep on their website that you needed to know it existed in order to actually find it. Had they supported it like their LoTR franchises, with its own category, it would probably still be going strong. Likewise for Necromunda.
I wouldn’t worry that the End Times is leading towards WFB being shut down for good. If anything it’ll be a clean slate for a reboot. Now if a reboot doesn’t work either, that would be the time to start and get worried for it. GW did put a lot of support behind Blood Bowl in the 80s and 90s but it just wasn’t profitable enough for them. It got removed from the stores and buried in the specialist games section of the website because it wasn’t selling enough, rather than vice versa. It’s inherent problem was that as a boardgame it could never sell enough minis to justify its existence no matter how popular it was.
I’m ok with it either way. As an Empire player I’m prepared for my army being “squatted”. I’ll stick to 8th and bollocks to whatever atrocities they commit in future 😉
I don’t think Warhammer is doing as bad in the sales as people say it is. When 8th edition came out I know a lot of people raged quit and some tournaments lost a lot of players ( in Australia some 80 man tournaments dropped to 20 people). It also wasn’t helped by the fact that gw didn’t release any army books for 8 months afterwards (image doing that to 40k players after a new edition). But now when I read forums and listen to podcasts it seems more popular than ever with people saying ” best edition yet”. Also tournaments are now selling out at 100 people with a waiting list. So I think even though it’s not as popular as 40k it’s still very popular.
I think gw will also use this end times to get rid of a lot of old characters and bring in new ones. And by that I mean scrap fine cast miniatures to bring in new plastic ones.
Cheers
It was the #3 selling game in North America two years ago, now it isn’t even in the top five. It’s hard to know the precise numbers as GW don’t break down their sales data by product line, but it’s a well-known industry secret that WFB accounts for a small percentage of GW’s income and it’s been in steep decline for a while now.
Hopefully it’s on it’s way back up. I for one, haven’t been this excited for Fantasy in a long time. The End Times is breathing new life into the story which is awesome. Fingers crossed it’ll turn into sales and, I’m being overly optimistic here, GW rebooting fantasy to have an easier buy in curve to keep it kicking along.
First off thanks for putting out great episodes. You guys always review minis and games i might not have looked at! I like tanks and vehicles like this that you can use for a couple of different games if you wanted.
doh forget to add please when prodos come do aliens versus predator rather than warzone .nothing against warzone but avp is due to hit both its ks backers and retail very shortly so would probably be of more interest to people who maybe be thinking of getting into either the board or tabletop version of the game
Count me in for the Ramshackle tank. I like his stuff.
Great show guys, lots of interesting talking points.
For vampires, I highly recommend the book ‘Vampire Forensics ‘ by Mark Collins Jenkins which goes into the history and origins of the vampire myth from multiple angles, a great book.
As for Warhammer, and to some degree 40k, I think the aesthetics of the miniatures have always been at odds with the background for technical and other reasons. In order to put the debate in context I think you need to look at the history of GW’s minis and paint schemes. When I started in the early-mid 90’s the minis were more cartoony and the colours really bright and I loved it, as I still do. I think GW tried to make things a bit darker in the 00’s but I think the general painting was worse as a result. I think you have to see GW’s minis as a blueprint for your interpretation of Warhammer or 40k. If you want to be more gritty and dark and more serious then you can paint them them that way. A darker pallette and blood/rust effects on the new Blightknights would do that and would no doubt be seen to be more awesome minis by some as a result. Ultimately it depends on how serious you want to make it for yourself.
I can see the virtue in both styles. I think bright, clean paint jobs really stand out on the tabletop, whereas more realistic interpretations of a miniature are perhaps at their best in a competition or as show pieces. To me the mini, any mini, is only a blueprint or a line drawing waiting to be coloured in. Do you paint inside or outside the lines? Do you use a varied, multi-coloured palette or do you use a grim, limited one?
I think it’s impossible for GW to please everyone as Warhammer and 40k gamers/fans/old fans often have a clear interpretation and passion of/for the background that brings emotion into play, be it love or, so often these days, of hate or despondency, all of which can be subjectively justified. Overall I think their paint jobs these days are bright and colourful/hideous because that’s the kind of style that made them successful to begin with. They have to pick a clear, consistent style to follow and the brighter palettes tend to look better and more appealing to a newcomer, they did in my case. I think the beauty of GW’s backgrounds, love ’em or hate ’em, is in the scope to make the aesthetics whatever you want them to be. I’d rather their minis looked more like the artwork but I think a case can be made for a mixture of detail/a blank canvas for gamers and painters to work with. I don’t think GW have an easy job when it comes to relating their IP through their minis as it’s so rich and varied that almost anything is possible for them to create and, to some extent, the WFB and 40k universes were designed to be that way. This said nothing will excuse the SM Centurions 🙂
I don’t think they have the balance right at the moment but it must be hard to innovate design aesthetics without alienating current/former miniature lines. IMHO I think their rules are their biggest problem right now as they have had no real innovation for 15+ years.
Anyway I personally endorse Ramshackle Games, who provide great bits and kits if you’re patient and are willing to put a bit more effort into making them. Their catalogue is a small treasure trove of bits, for Ork players especially. So if you haven’t done so already, check them out.
Now bring on XLBS 🙂
YES!!!….N3 WEEK AT LAST!!!!…..(Y)
Have some of the ramshackle from the kickstarter; nice stuff, needs instructions/identifications for the smaller bits.
Thanks for the feedback. I never get any comments about instructions, which is why I dont supply them. I did do some a while back but nobody ever said they wanted them, or didnt want them!
Interesting stuff about Warhammer.
It is probably a sign of the problems they face that when ‘end of times’ was announced I looked, saw the big nagash kit, thought it was more of the same, overly expensive highly impractical large kits and never looked again.
Warhammer fantasy was where most of my hobby money went until 7th edition, now they are making major changes that may even interest me and how its presented left me ignoring it.
I’m surprised that no-one mentioned that the side doors on the tank would have the tracks running right through the opening.
Still need a looted wagon vor my new Ork army. Cool to have a Beast of War looted wagon.
Intriguing discussion about Warhammer, I will watch with in interest the direction that it takes.
Wouldn’t mind winning free stuff. 😉
Good show, as allways.
Now give me a tank 😛
If you guys loved Bram Stoker’s Dracula then I suggest you read Anno Dracula by Kim Newman. Its an alternate fictional history thing of what if Dracula won? And now he’s married to the Queen of England. A whole slew of famous historical/fictional figures of the time as Vampires (Including Professor Moriarty which made me smile) and gives a different take on the Jack the Ripper tale. Its really good. I’m just finishing the second book, which is set in WW1. Really recommend the series!
Anno Dracula is a great book! If you haven’t read the sequel “The bloody red baron” is also great. Set in WWI, Dracula controls the german side with an airforce made of bestial Vampires. 🙂
Funnily enough I just finished reading the Bloody Red Baron half an hour ago. Now to start Dracula Cha Cha Cha. 🙂
I haven’t read that one yet. I guess I should put it next in line 😉
I have just started the audio book of “The Bloody Red Baron” and love it so far!!
I’ve read it, a fantastic cross-over piece. I keep meaning to pick up the sequels
Just go to the hardware store and get yourself one of those level thingies with laser (sorry, don’t know the proper word for it).
There are really expensive ones, but you want the cheap 10 euro one.
Or you can try ti find a small barrel prism and build one out of any old laser pointer.
The Army Painter laser pointers are only £5.
@dracs Baboons are old world monkeys (Order: Primates, Family: Cercopithecidae) not apes (Order: Primates, Family: Hominidae).
I stand thoroughly corrected
Nice show guys. Love the tanks need to go shopping
Tanktastic way to finish another great episode – looking forward to the XLBS tomorrow.
That Ramshackle Games tank is sick , it would be perfect for my Orks, great episode guys.
Excellent show as always!
I’m very excited about the end times, there seemed to be Cult of Slaanesh rumours, any news on that?
I want to win the Ramshackel Games tank!
Pick me.
Pick me. 🙂
loosing interest in warhammer, games workshop seem to have lost the way. nice show as always guys
Great show as always, Thanks for making my Saturday morning enjoyable.
I love This endtimes stuff, I haven’t been as excited for Fantasy since I was younger and first discovered Warhammer back in 3rd edetion, the books the fluff everything is just awesome.
I don’t know who you talked to but there is absolutely no way they are getting rid of Empire or Skaven. Empire is one of the most popular armies they have amd extremly Iconic, theres tons of novels and fluff all about the Empire. They might get rid of the Brets but I even doubt that as in last weeks White Dwarf Phil Kelly had a article all about their king and how he was going to support Karl Franz in the Empire so I don’t think their going anywhere. The Skaven are rumored to be what the 3rd endtimes book is all about so I don’t see them then getting rid of them. I could see some armies being combined into one book like the Brets and Empire, all the Chaos Warriors, Beastmen and Daemons together, the Elves, the undead. Maybe the Ogres but they are also extremely popular so I really don’t see it.
Those Mantic Zombies look awesome and is that new material their made from, a more hard plastic and not their normal restic. The tank is pretty sweet also, make a good traitor guard tank.
I’ll pass on the tank but since I broke my promise to ‘never again’ buy anything GW when 7th edition came out, I *am* looking for a Taurox alternative for my Imperial Guard kill team list so I will see what else Ramshackle have on their site 🙂
Staying with GW for a moment, I briefly dabbled with WFB back when you could buy a box of 20 plastic skeletons for a tenner but I have always been interested in the fluff.. both in terms of how it affects WFRP (I wonder if the end of 3rd edition has anything to do with this) and also the fiction (The Vampire Genevieve tome was awesome!). I shall watch the fate of Wammer with great interest.
Finally on the matter of the Deadzone zombies, one thing I will say is that you will want to have your bits box handy because there really aren’t enough head options on that sprue on my opinion. Perhaps the best option is to pick up a few of their KoW Zombie sprues too (unless they are part of the package already)
..IN my opinion, rather.
I’ve got to say, I figured the main reason that they’re hosting WarhammerFest where they are was due to the work going on to redesign Warhammer World. – I imagine that in the future, it’ll just move into there.
Have you seen that Games Workshop Chiswick, Edinburgh and Bath have now renamed themselves to simply. “Warhammer.”
Hmmmm Brettonian “god” returns, undead “god” returns, Skaven “god” returns looks like a pattern – what might be next? Primarchs in 40k ….. 🙂
a comment for a tank, sure why not. 😉
End times sounds very interesting which is just what Fantasy needs. That tank looks great as well.
Holy….
That would make a great start for a StuG IV kind of tank.
(Thinking about the ForgeWorld Destroyer Tank Hunter)
Great video, hey you guys have got to turn down the bleep lol It is always a million times louder than the general audio volume and is a bit severe for the ears good thing I’m not big on drinking because I dread to think what would have happened had I been hungover.
Warhammer reboot.. sounds sensible. There are a lot of game company competitors now vying for a hobbyists spare cash, which means GW need to streamline what they offer as a system. It’s all good having 17 factions to choose from, but that’s a lot of production costs and stock sitting there when everyone’s playing multiple systems in the modern wargamers environment.. The company’s already renaming some of their stores just ‘Warhammer’ and there are whispers of rumours circulating on the direction that Nottingham is heading. The interesting times are upon us finally, perhaps.
Loyd asks : What’s a guy supposed to do if his army gets the axe?”
And Warren can’t believe that they would…
Well when they cancelled the Dogs of War list, that was the final straw for me and Warhammer. I started in the late 1980’s, used to do the tourneys over here and witnessed GW and their 5 year changing product wheel, getting a bit frustrated of it of course, but when they scrapped an army and didn’t provide recycling opportunity for those units… it sort of feels like a slap in the face.
What’s a guy supposed to do? Move on to another company that seems to care a bit more about it’s fan base.
Google job guys
Darn autocorrect, ‘good job guys’ is what I was trying to type.
Another great show guys! Thanks!
Love the look of the Ramshackle. It’s so great that companies are making it more and more possible for you to customise your models without having to buy loads of extra bits – no two armies need ever look the same again 🙂
I really dig the acid rain look of those tanks. Just something about the worn beaten down look.
That tank could be going places in a hurry.
really like the look of the tank. it does look very orky, can see it with some gretchin climbing all over it fighting and doing repairs. and looking forward to the infinity week. you’ve got me interested in infinity.
Oh, how I like these weekend morning’s painting sessions while looking at the weekender (and XLBS)!
I’ve been looking at Ramshackle’s stuff for a while because it would fit my 40k orks pretty well. I’ve been thinking of making an all grot army to use as Imperial Guards allies for them… Just saying. 😉
Tanks a lot for this awesome episode!
that tank would be nice for some genestealers cult too !
Thank you for a great saturday of wargaming show! (yeah I had the last week’s weekender and XLBS to catch up on)
I want that tank so bad
I think I’m going straight over to look at the Ramshackle website after viewing this episode.
Crazie German…..entered! Great show as usual!
Some lovely little greeblies on that tank. I love the weight of a resin model, and I love putting them together.
In the Judge Dredd Kickstarter they offered Mega City One zombies which turned out to be the Mantic zombies with alternate heads, shoulder pads and belt packs. They turned out well but maybe those ones might have suited more.
Great show guys! (as always). I cant wait for N3 week
I’m so excited for this upcoming Infinity week and I hope there will be 2 b.reports
I also wonder what are the chances for the Wolsung week?
The Ramshackle stuff would be great for a refugee army theme I’ve been working on. Thanks for the Carneval segment!
I want that tank!!
Great show! I’m hoping that GW is using the Fantasy End Times as a test bed to maybe do the same with the 40k universe. I also like the Mantic models, I bought some Raptors for use as Ork Buggies. And I agree that the Ramshackle Tanks would be perfect for an Ork army!
I’m glad to see the scifi-specific zombies from Mantic and I agree that they will be excellent conversion fodder.
Great show as always guys, I do like the look of that tank from Ramshackle, but I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the new Nurgle sculpts I think I prefer the older less cartoony ones myself
Great Show guys
Cry havoc and let the dogs of war slip in my direction….
GW may finally be resolving the results from the Storm of Chaos Campaign, that is what I think this whole End times thing is.
Warhammer Fantasy’s ‘hemorrhaging’ sadly isn’t due to the quality of the fluff/miniatures/etc… So I doubt the new campaign will do TOO much for it. It is more the company pissing off its fans, combined with those they piss off finding out there are other quality fantasy miniature games out there (And for less money of course.)
If there were more massive war scale sci-fi games out there, you’d see 40k falling as well, believe it or not. It’d probably take longer since 40k has pretty much always been more popular than fantasy, but it would happen nonetheless.
No one believed GW could fall a couple years ago, and there are still those who don’t, but just look at the landscape of the miniatures market over the last couple years… it is only going to get worse for GW, unless they change certain things AND make it obvious by doing stuff for fans they have lost that blatantly remedy the reason those fans left in the first place.
Great episode as always.
Can’t wait to see what’s in store for N3 week.
Great show guys. Really liking those mantic zombies got a few sprues of them in my wave 2 shipment and cant wait to build them after I get through the mountain of terrain sprues I’ve got sitting next to me.
Good thing I learned how to charge dice, now I´ll be invincible! 🙂
Very nice tank!
Looking forward to a Warzone Week!
Please take the lasers away from Warren! 🙂
I’d like that tank because I think it’d make the perfect command tank for my Raging Heroes all female Astra Militarum army 😀
A great show as always guys. Keep up the good work. I have to say thou that possible dropping of the Skavens would be weird wince they constitute the bulk of the Warhammer history. The ogres not really much about them but the Skavens c’mon!
As usual good stuff. Enjoy your enthusiasm over the newer games! haha.
Great show guys keep it up.
The Battle dog is a nice model, but it does take a lot of cleaning up to get the parts together (yep even if you want it orky) but once you have the main bits together you are then faced with a major issue…. just which of the bucket load of guns do you put on it?
Tanks for the great episode and the giveaway opportunity.
great show as always guys
What the heck did you guys put in Warrens coffee???
think the ramshakle tank looks better than a leman russ
Thanks! I used two of them today in a game as Leman Russ.
great video, i hope GW does not get rit of most warhammer armys, because i have 10k Dwarfs, 6k Orcs&Goblins, 6k Brettonia, 6k Tombkings and 4,5 k Ogres. and last 3 armys i does not feel sure about and we stay playing 8th edit with friends and on club.
I think this tank can fit in to Dystopian Legions miniature war game witch i am still hesitant to preorder just because i have way to mutch miniature game to play and not enough time to give them but if i found 1 or 2 guy’s to give it a try then the preorder of the new starter set will be a no brainner 😉
And good show by the way
Ps: sorry for my bad writting , i am just a French Canadian who do not use is english enough 😉
great video, i hope GW does not get rit of most warhammer armys, because i have 10k Dwarfs, 6k Orcs&Goblins, 6k Brettonia, 6k Tombkings and 4,5 k Ogres. and last 3 armys i does not feel sure about, and just starting collect (with friend) some skaven, would be real shame to discontinu that army, and if so we stay playing 8th edit with friends and on club.
That tank is a massive piece of resin would be much cheaper if inside was hollow.
Great weekender as always gents. Yes there wee a few inaccuracies in the End Times discussion but not surprising considering the amount of stuff that happens. Rather than try to comment on them I would suggest everyone interested check out the two part podcast review by Garagehammer. Very detailed and thorough review for anyone interested. I listened after having finished the book 1 and novel and still heard things that I missed in my own reading.
I’m gonna be honest, I’m mainly just commenting to have a chance to win that tank :). That being said, great show as always. Also, am I the only one who think it would be fun to see a Tank God episode where we get to see a really, really beat up, rusted old tank painted from start to finish?
hay guys really enjoyed the episode don’t think they will reboot warhammer any time soon but what I’ve been told the end time has made it cheaper to collect as you put half your points for your force now in to the Lord or hero option
When I first saw End of Times my first thought was something similar to Storms of Chaos, big story event were players had some influence but that’s not what it seems to be.
The End Times encompasses the Storm of Chaos. Worth a read if you can get your hands on a book.
Nagash needs that hat for balance!
And that little tank-like super formers thing does look ok when in the tank hunter version.
I nice subsitut for IG Leman Russ tanks.
I hope that Warhammer Fantasy make this fusion :
Chaos : Dark Elves + Skaven + Chaos Warriors * Chaos Demons ( Orcs should be here ?… i think not ).
Undead : Vampire Counts + Tomb Kings (… this kinda already happen ).
Humans : Empire + Bretonians + Ogre Kingdoms + Dwarf
Elves : High Elves + Wood Elves
Orcs alone… ?
Lizardmen alone ?
I don’t know a ton about Fantasy but this is from an outsider point of view makes a lot of sense… Dark Elves could be along all the other Elves, but i feel the forces of chaos are a lot stronger that the sharing blood. Orcs i don’t know if the could have any alliance… i think not, Lizardmen maybe could go with Elves probably since they both are the oldest ( at least elves always are the oldest… ).
Anyway, well see i
Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings are done in Book 1.
Book 2 should be Warriors of Chaos, Beasts of Chaos, demons and Dark Elf Cult of Slaanesh.
Book 3 is any guess, Book 4 must be the races saving the world from Chaos but leaving everything on the brink.
For 9th Ed reboot: my guess is Undead (from book 1). Chaos (warriors, beasts and demons) from book two. After that I think you’ll see human nations and elf nations be combined but with additional faction books like you see for 40k. Orks will stay stand alone as they are too iconic. That leaves dwarves, lizards, Skaven and ogres up in the air. I expect a return of dogs of war / regiments of renown to let armies mix and match. Ogres are after all mercenaries. Cutting down to 8 core armies with a merc add on seems quite viable. If they keep 50% lords and give everyone monstrous creatures and monsterous infantry that drastically cuts down the model count and cost of entry.
Tried charging the dice at work but buggered the dice, lost my job at the weapons research lab at well!
Looking forward of both Infinity and especially the MYTH week. And of course I’d love to have that tank! Looks like a blast to build and paint.
Grubers little tank
My money’s on Settra coming back as a servant of Chaos. He was reassembled after Nagash took him to pieces and spread him across Nehekhara.
I agree that they should maybe have fewer factions in WHFB. This new narrative is intriguing but my funds are far to low to play more than one GW game. Thanks for the great re-cap of events!
In other news, I love that tank and should be very happy to win it.
Cheers!
Looking good. I love those tanks. Great show guys.
You guys have inspired me to read the end times book.
Great show as always! And the way to control the fear of Zombies…..Have a plan and lots of weapons 😀 Looking forward to tomorrows backstage show!
Hearing Sam talk about the new Fantasy Fluff actually piqued my interest in thinking about returning to Fantasy to see whats going on rules wise. But then I thought about how much it would cost to play again and those thoughts were dashed quite quickly. A shame really.
Great show as always.
It is a shame that ; that awesome tank is the wrong scale as it would look wonderful as part of the DropZone Commander : Resistance faction.
I’m on the fence with the end times thing. I used to love the WFB / WFRP background but over the years it’s become very cartoony and high fantasy. I would feel less bad about major changes to the setting if I had more confidence in GW to do something right and appropriate!
Right now, it sounds like lots of massive changes just for the sake of it, and I worry about all the cool nuances of the setting getting swept away. So all of the background, the politics, the machinations, etc. all being replaced by ‘the big bad boss man is back and now everyone follows him’.
On the Slaan and their exodus, you may be interested in some of the earlier history from Warhammer – particularly the roleplaying game. I don’t know if any of this is still considered to be ‘current’ fluff. Anyway, back in the 80s and 90s when they were still playing around with the settings, the one for Warhammer was written in such a way as to allow for the possibility that the Warhammer World existed in the 40K universe. It wasn’t stated like that, but it left open the possibility. So the Slaan were described either as the ‘Old Ones’ or as servents of them, who basically arrived from somewhere else in the universe, terraformed the Warhammer World, settled it, introduced and cultivated new species, etc. None of the species were perfect: the elves were pretty good, but I can’t remember what the problem was. Dwarves similar. Humans were too susceptible to chaos. Halflings were a prototype for a more chaos resistant human that never got finished.
When the warp gates at the planet’s two poles collapsed, letting chaos in to the world, the Old Ones either died or fled. So it’s possible the an exodus refers in some way to the Slaan being rescued and/or bording ancient space ships and leaving the planet. That would be one way to reduce the number of armies in the game!
Personally, I don’t see them cutting armies. Given how long some of the old (and rubbish) plastic sprues still get used, I can’t believe they’ll scrap armies which have had major new plastic models introduced in the last 5 years, or even more. And armies like the Empire and Skaven are realy iconic, not to mention popular!
One more little rumour from the past: there has always been speculation that Sigmar was one of the missing Primarchs from the 40K universe. The ‘Twin Tailed Commet’ could well have been a space ship or drop pod with 2 engines. If he was a Primarch it would explain how he was able to kick so much ass!
That’s a pretty cool tank
First weekender I’ve watched. Good stuff.
Great show. Looking forward to more End Times coverage!
Really starting to think about getting into Infinity lately. Lots of interesting things coming with that hopefully.
That tank looks fantastic!
a ton of information which i absolutely love, and that tank is sick.
Finally a tank I can agree with.
Regarding scrapping some Warhammer armies I can hardly believe they would scrap the Empire. A big part of the main storyline, at least about the fight against Chaos, has been told from their perspective. It’s always the Empire that Chaos eventually gets bogged down in and gets defeated by.
When you mention an exodus it sounds more likely that the Lizardmen will be the one to go. Wood Elves without their queen might also make the rest of their race wither.
Thanks for the cool review. Whoever wins the Battle Dog please let me know if any parts arrive broken and I will replace them free of charge.
I do hope they don’t remove Lizardmen anytime soon, I need time to collect some models, because the aesthetic goes well with the Kulkani, having a cool, fantasy-esque Aztec-inspired army sounds like a lot of fun.
Ramshackle’s stuff is looking great. That yellow flamer tank with the dozer blade is awesome!
That tank is great! Nice WH history lesson too.
I would like to get the End of Days books, but there’s no official indication of how many I’ll need to collect to be up-to-date, nor are they telling us how long these books will be current for; are they going to override the lot of them with 9th edition a couple of months after the final EoD installment?
Ramshackle’s stuff just gets better and better. I’d definately like to win that tank!
Great show guys. I don’t play warhammer fantasy but the end times fluff sounds great and has gotten me all excited! I wouldn’t call it dark and gritty though. To me it sounds more like the Marvell or DC comic book world where characters can die and then be recreated by magic, science or brought over from another dimension so dying actually doesn’t mean all that much (as long as your a popular character that is).
All right guys love the table beside warren it’s like a bit of 40K brought to life. The ramshackle tank would make a brilliant Ork or a low-tech version Leman Russ just to add an other version to the list as said in the Codex imp guard local versions will are constructed of materials available at the time.
I am really feeling mixed on how games workshop is moving these days. On the one hand, it is great seeing how much new stuff is coming out… but that is a lot to invest in when you are short on cash.
Speaking of the direction they are moving, would anyone happen to know if the rumors of a new CEO are true?
Tom Kirby announced he was stepping down a few months back. They’re currently in the process of recruiting a replacement.
ogres can go, will miss the skaven but that orky tank. yes please!!
Spider dog was scary too.
Some fantastic looking models and discussion. Keep up the great job.
@angelicdespot, glad someone else remembers the old warhammer, I remember the gates the old ones used to travel to the warhammer world, and how they left one going and that is how Chaos spread into the world, creating the chaos wastes. The old frog on a chair in the lizard army was supposed to be a relation of the old ones, a servant or lesser old one. Wonder if they are going to do something around the gate?? The old warhammer had comedy/cartoon elements, but it was always very dark, even a bit Call of Cathulu in the way it destroyed characters in the RPG.
Sam, if you think the old medicine is scary, read In the House of God. It was written by a medical intern. My favourite quote is: there is no cavity in the body that cannot be reached by 14 gauge cannula and a good strong arm……..
I completely disagree with Warren The new chaos models look terrifying! and painting is disgusting good.
ramshackle are getting better and better but that tank have to weigh a stone!
lovely little tank dsign…. we do need more terrain making vids… Warzan, Lloyd….
Great show sitting here and painting up 100 Revolutionary war British 28s
That tank looks cool.
Would love to win that tank it looks awesome! Great show guys like always, keep up the great work!
This end times stuff sounds pretty neat, gotta love rulers with silly hats.
Also: Puuuuuuuuuuuuug
First episode i have watched and i really enjoyed it looking forward to many more
i thought warren had finally gone around the bend taking about charging dice and such. nice recovery with the monster talk. thoes flying monkeys scared the craput of me when i was a kid. cant wait for XLBS
I am really concerned about my Operation Icestorm dices that can not be charged…
What WFB would need to get me to play? A decent rules system. Currently it just is nowhere near as good as warmaster, or kings of the battlefield or god of battles.
Ive got to say that I am really liking the whole end times thing going on with fantasy. I dont play but seeing some of the models comming out for it really makes me want to try it.
I like the Halloween bit about vampires, werewolves and such also the warhammer history. I gave up on Citadel (Games workshop ) fantasy years ago to out of proportion with the heads and hands I’m Warren I like a little more dark and lifelike.
That tank is awesome. My Orks saw this Tank, and now they’re drooling all over the place. I’m in trouble with them now, if we don’t win, they are not going to shut up about it unless I loot them one!
Yes Sam he did say give it away, yah
Great video guys. I love the Ramshackle tank and would love to win it 🙂
Warhammer End Times is excellent. (Btw, in addition to what has been mentioned – I think – the top wizard in the empire has defected to Undead and several Undead characters defected to Chaos… Plus vlad von Carsten was resurrected… Whole idea was Nagashs resurrection was brought forward due to the resurgence of chaos across the world… Plus Nagash basically killed one if the old TK gods and absorbed his power ;))
Be interesting to see what happens when they get to 9th ed.
Always a great show. Also me want tank!
That ramshackle is the very best alternate version of the leman russ i’ve seen.
Thanks!
Wonderful episode guys i LOVE that tank series 🙂
Ramshackle are great, I love their Ork coptors especially.
I’ve never really been bothered by the ‘named’ characters/campaign systems implemented by WHFB, so don’t really feel either way about this end of times. Meh…
The Tank looks interesting – pefect project for magnetising!
Great episode as always guys, that tank would be perfect for an ork army
Is that Ramshackle tank Poundland’s attempt at a Leman Russ?
Haha!
Great episode and really looking forward to N3 week. Also that tank would look pretty good dust tied as well! German lasers for the win!
Right now, i am a two weeks member, within the Beasts of War Community, and i’ve been wondering why i have ignored it so long. I have read a Lot of stuff and looked a lot of your free weekender material, and i have to say, it is awesome! And there is still so much undiscovered to me! I’ll guess i need more time to work through, but it is a lot of fun! So anyway you guys are doin a great Job, im looking forward to see some more cool stuff coming!
I love the looks of that old style TOG tank.
This Battle Dog tank is so weird…and awesome!
Have people seen the three re-branded stores. i believe they are chiswick, Bath and Edingburgh. I was wondering what people thought of the re-brand.
I’m impressed by the recent Ramshackle vehicles. They suddenly seem to have cleaned up their sculpts, with much sharper angles and accurate casting. I don’t like their figures much, but the vehicles are loads better than they used to be. I wonder if they’ve changed the way they design them or something like that?
If they get rid of empire bretonia wood elves skaven or high elves I and some other fans will riot!!! This is a Dick move gw dick move where is assyran and sigmar !! we need gods for mankind!! sigmar should return like conan jesus!!! dam GW
and elf gods like osha and the lady of the lake !!! no no once again gw need a coup someone who’s rich and likes warhammer buy gw and fire everyone and start over!!
Not really a huge fan of Vampire’s and there lore but Nosferatu and Love and first bite are still two of my favourite movies
If you read about the true story of Vlad it is more interesting than the legends attached to him
Bretonians deserve some love
empire is the best U.S. france and germany selling army and high elves and dark elves!! if anyone is dying its bretonia beast men and vampire counts!
That ramshackle and zombies could make an interesting guards army together even
more tanks are always useful, even for terrain bits. 😉 (kidding)
I really liked that tank when I saw it on KS, thought it’d go well in my ‘not a GW mini in sight’ Ork allied force I’m slowly making, but I just didn’t have the money to back it
That tank looks great, would fit in really well with the new forge world pre heresy imperial guard.
Those mantic zombies though, when Warren mentioned genestealer cult, i started thinking….
That tank fits so well in my ork army!
Just checked out the spider dog. Loved it.
Nice to see some Warhammer action for a change….
I want the tank, please :p
How are Ramshackles rules?
A Transalvainian theme park in Romainia? Hmm now think of all the fun they could have with American tourist!
Seriously enjoyed the show. Liked the bit on latest WFB fluff though I’ve completely lost interest years ago (actually, when they went over the top with their childish ‘grimdark’ talk). Funny how they’re trying to reinvent the wheel, killing off characters and supposedly whole races/nations.
Anyway, thanks for an entertaining hour.
As usual, great show, guys!
Already have ideas to convert those Ramshackle tanks for my Ork army. Wouldn’t be too hard to do and would be a blast to convert.
lol great show guys, i agree ith the cartoony feel of the new warhammer paintjobs.
The way I see it there are three ways GW can go with the end times:
Option 1: Pretend it never happened. Let’s not foget that’s what they did last time they covered the end times in Storm of Chaos.
Option 2: The end times go full circle and we end up where we started. E.g. the Tomb Kings and Nekhara get re-built.
Option 3: The end times fundamentally change the Warhammer world and this gets reflected in everything else form now on. This would currently mean no more Tomb Kings as an army, with other armies being removed as the end times books progress.
Option 3 is probably the most likely, but I wouldn’t rule out any of the others.
I can see undead being merged, some elf merging and Brettonians and Empire being merged. Ogres could also be faded into the background or other books. Not so sure they’d drop Skaven though. They are pretty unique compared to other army books and they also are very unique compared to other games ranges.
The ramshackle tanks and a horde of space zombies looks like a pretty good start to a Lost and the Damned army to me
Great show as always, worth at least the 7 bucks a month. I would definitely like to paint up that Ramshakle tank.
Love the tank – entry in the competition please!
Should i get one of these tanks in my hands, they would be the joy of my mekboyz
Great stuff guys, as always
I’m to XLBS now to continue catching up with the goss!
I love BeastsofWar!
I thought they said they were going to announce the winner of the Sun Tzu? Anyway, in for the Ramshackle tank.
God episode and thanks for the chance to get a pretty cool tank.
I briefly considered trying out Warhammer Fantasy years ago because I really liked the Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings. In retrospect I’m glad I never did, simply because of the cost. The models were amazing, but with the prices climbing like they do it’s simply not affordable for me.
Another entertaining episode lads. Nicely done.
Good show guys 🙂
The gaming table behind Warren looks amazing.
Love those Ramshackle tanks. The Rhebok is particularly awesome and will be doing sterling work for my traitor guard.
Nice tank, but bring on Infinity week!
Wants tank!
Great show guys!
gimme dat tank 😀
All Warren wants… is fricken’ tape measures… with fricken laser beams on them.
Someone had to say it 😀
On the vampire subject, no mention of 30 Days of Night? Evil vampires, no “super-powers”, sadistic hunting behaviour.
On Warhammer Fantasy, I’ve mostly enjoyed the history and background of it. The End times is interesting.
Oh also, I really like the look of the Ramshackle tanks. They remind me of something that would turn up in a side-scrolling old-school arcade shooter.
Great episode, I am staggered with Sam’s Fantasy Knowledge.
Nice episode guys. I hope your mistaken on which warhammer armies are on the chopping block, they’re the only armies I have…
That would make an awesome cultist or looted tank
I’ll be at Essen Spiel taking photos for Darker Days Radio, and perhaps, some video.
Good episode. Not much of fantasy fan but good stuff as always!
Free tank, yeah!
I’m looking forward to where warhamemr fantasy is going. It’s nice to see, that im not the only one thinking its got a bit cartoony. 😀
excellent as always 🙂
Having only returned to warhammer fantasy at the start of the year, i find myself in the “end times” I hope this is not the end of warhammer as possibly indicated by this video as i love the diversity of the world and i think its the diversity that gives fantasy its strength. What they actually need to do is revisit ALL the rules (despite only just releasing 8th edition) and simplify/straighten out a lot of the clunkyness as described and also fix all the broken rules so that there isnt an “update” that fixes the problems caused by the previous “update”.
Other than that i love listening to you guys whilst i paint my models, keep up the good work.
I have to say those Mantic zombies look tempting. Unfortunately, my better half told me I can’t buy any more minis until I have painted all the ones I have. *sigh*
those tanks are cool….
Don’ tplay Orks anymore but still model the odd thing and that would be a nice addition I think to the Grot tank series
That tank would look great as an Ork vehicle…
Great show as ever guys, I especially liked the grim/funny aspect discussion. I believe that there is a lot more to be said for the general direction of Games Workshop’s theme and if armies like orks are specifically put in place to “lighten the mood”.
I would love that tank…
Nice tank!
Sod’s law that I’ve just started a lizard man army, and now they are “chipping”
Sweet tank. That will go well with my guard.
I highly doubt they’ll throw out Empire as a warhammer army, its one of their more succesfull armies, I rather think they’d take out Bretonnia and make it a part of the Empire (as much as I would dislike that as Bretonnia is the army I once started with).
But really, they still have some ways to go to entice old players to get back into this game I think, I saw the 8th edition being played the other day in the local store I frequent, and the sheer amount of huge units was insane, 20 cavalry in a unit looked about average .. 40 infantry in one unit … not something I feel like moving around anymore on the table, especially with all the great skirmish-to-smaller-armies games that are available at the moment.
GW has always been a cartoon style of painting for their miniatures, for those of us that been around for more than 25 years playing GW games know this….
Not quite sold yet on Warhammer End Times. And I play Khemri. They need to come up with some new and exciting mechanics for this game.
The ramshackle tanks look awesome.
That was awesome! Keep up the good work
I like tanks 🙂
@warzan DICE CHARGING!?!?! Gonna have to try that! 😀
It seems Axis Of Awesome missed that one out in their excellent ‘Why Aren’t Lasers Doing Cool Shit?’ music video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wecd5S2pr_Q
Although, I gather that one of the Axis guys is a huge 40K fan, so you never know, they may be convinced to re-record the track to include it 😉
Really interested to see what happens with WFB and the End of Times storyline. That tank would also look great for an 40k conversion army!
I love all of the lore for End of times. I agree that GW needs to work on their main armies more and build up the lore there.
A very nice tank, that. Would sit well with my orks (even though they’re not getting much love now)
