What’s in the Box: Steel Phalanx – Scarface & Cordelia – Wu Ming

Infinity have been on fire recently with a selection of great new miniatures hitting the gaming table. In this episode of What's In The Box Justin, Nick, and Gav have another look at the latest goodies from our friends over at Corvus Belli, with the Steel Phalanx, Scarface & Cordelia, and the Wu Ming Assault Corps.
The guys even manage to sneak in Ajax the Great, one of the best miniatures for Infinity so far!

Those look totally cool. I think I’m more pumped for the scarface and Cordelia minis. Infinity just keeps getting better.

I’m just starting with Infinity. I just assembled my starter set and am right now in the process of converting my gaming table. The Steel Phalanx would be a great addition to my my small collection. Fun show, as always! Keep having fun!

I just started an Aleph army and I would love to win the Steel Phalanx. The greeks are making a comeback.
I don’t think the Steel Phalanx starter is OP. It’s great that the started has a bunch of quality models that one will use as their army gets bigger, unlike some starter where some of the combi rifle guys get phased out. In the end the points balance.
I would be really happy to win.
I think the Aleph are second on my list for coolest faction. Achilles and Ajax are almost, almost, as cool as the tohaas.
Ajax the Great just looks IMMENSE!! Wow!! – loved the other Mini’s but Ajax just stole the Show!

Beautiful models. I especially liked the one with the goatee who looked like Ming the Merciless.
The figurines looked great too… the damage those Steel Phalanx could do is immense!
Always been a big fan of Infinity models, especially the Aleph. They’re great for a lot of Sci-Fi RPGs I’ve been getting into lately. The detail is amazing, which makes me intimidated every time I try to paint one of them. I have to really look at the model to figure out how to paint them. My only complaint is putting them together. The spindly arms and little parts are a beast to get just right on some minis.

As much as I love my Aleph (and I will be picking up both the steel phalanx and Ajax), there’s just something I really like about the Scarface mini.

These miniatures just keep getting better and better. I like the Scarface & Cordelia set.
Have to say, again, I think Ajax is perhaps the best 28mm miniature currently being made.
Pose, detail everything is perfect on it.
The Infinity models are always impressive.
I really like the Steel Phalanx. Very nice starter pack indeed. Although I will never be able to paint them up to cover standard. ^^

I love infinities mix of silly anime like girls and super kick ass models. I also love how you only need like 6 models to play a game, unlike some others where you need like 20+ for the smallest games.

Awesome stuff from CB yet again. Love the Ajax model and scarface looks sweet to (just think the sword looks a bit weird) I have seen a few conversions of scarface holding a gun instead of the sword/knife and it looks sweet! 🙂

What better way to start Infinity than with cheese. Or a set that you don’t feel only has a couple decent models, depending on your outloo.

Woah, the Ajax, is just…huge! I thought it’s just like other troopers, nice. And Scarface, also good, but where is the Tikbalang? Really, CV should start releasing old stuff, and then move to new models…But anyway, great minis, steel phalang, one of the best looking modls in the game IMO.

While the game seems a little complicated, the minis for Infinity are absolutely beautiful
I would say that the only down side to all these great minis is that I don’t take less from other companies. In the past I might have let a company get away with some crap sculpts if the game was good. But in seeing the quality possible it removes all excuses from others for sub par miniatures. Good job Corvus. Keep setting the bar high.
After Campaign Paradiso Aleph became just damn scary. Huge melee beatsticks, monofilament armed bikers, and all those nasty fireteams you can make…Just glad they are usually correctly priced for all the nastyness they pack.

Amazing looking models, Aleph are the cream of the crop at the moment. Scarface is pretty eye catching too.

I really want to play this game, unfortunately here in Canada none of my four local stores have much in the way of product.
I have had to order my Rulebook and an Aleph Starter Box. I wish I had known about the new Aleph Sectorial Army Starter box.

They have upped the special weapons in starters recently. Gone are the days of starters with nothing heavier than different rifle variants!
As there are no Camouflage units in this sectorial and the HI is either Achilles or Ajax the selection was limited. 3 Thorakites as ‘grunts’, Agema and Myrmidon Hacker as ‘specialists’ and Eudoros as an Enomotachos link maker. Agema’s pose is a bit silly but the rest seems ok.
Ajax the great sounds very much like Arjac from space wolves.Anyway…
Great job again with the unboxings guys, there are a few companies out there that could realy learn a thing or two from Corvus Belli.

I don’t think the SP box is cheese, those weapons have their support costs after all, also, the Myrmidon hacker is absolutely gorgeous.
Great unboxing, a little too much sidetracking for me though.
I would love that Steel Phalanx box. Not for myself since I have little interest in Aleph (I play JSA), but as a gift to give to someone who’s never heard of the game, or can’t afford the models; to convince them to play the game. I’m always looking for more people to play against, as Infinity’s only got a small following locally.
Someone can turn down free rules… but it’s hard to turn down free rules AND free models.
More superb minis from Corvus Belli, how do they keep churning them out at this quality?

Though the models are great its the gameplay that makes Infinity great!
the mecha designs from infinity always remind me of Masamune Shirow’s work like Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed

When I first saw the Steel Phalanx starter, I was wondering ‘Is this balanced?’ Is it unfair for me (in a start versus starter game) to say ‘Okay Rowan, I’m going to open fire with these two rockets at your single fusilier in cover – that Okay?’ Then I thought yes, yes it is fine to say that. Wargamers thrive on misery and suffering – just like Scottish people. And since I’m a wargamer and a Scot, I look at this starter and think good times!
