Sexy, Fast and Deadly! The Seekers are on us!
August 6, 2010 by johnlyons
So. Being a Slaanesh man (Apparently) John opens up the new plastic Seekers of Slaanesh set to see just how they have improved over the older models. And John certainly seems impressed. So let's have a look at one of the nicest kits to come out of Games Workshop (In Johns mind)

SWEEEEEEEET and … 1st post i guess…
im defiently usin these for fast attack
maybe one big unit and id use a herald on one 😀
I disagree with John on the Daemonette pose’s.
Surely something like the metal models they have replaced would have been better?
Yes they are Daemons, but regardless they just look unbalanced as models, and it looks like lazy sculpting to me.
Saying that, a small amount of cutting and re-sculpting will easily resolve that issue and the new steeds are pretty awesome looking 🙂
They look amazing. Can’t wait to get my hands on them for my 40k army. 20 of them should be enough i guess to make ppl go “WTF!!” XD.
I think I might start a fantasy army around these guys! Nice review John is there a way you can post your paint job, because I am sure they will turn out awesome.
I’m personally not a fan of the legs on the deamonettes, otherwise they’re awesome
OH YEAAAAAA!
The mounts wil be perfect for Dark elves dark riders or imperial guard rough riders, with a little make up
Incredible… this detail is sweet, hope this is the definite new direction of GW’s design. Multi-part plastics with amazing detail….just no more ooops’s like the Minotaurs!
For me the plastic daemonettes just can’t compete with the metals they came in to replace, though I know there are many who feel the new ones better represent what a daemonette should look like, in terms of sculpt and design alone the metals were just brilliant.
That said the steeds, banners, trumpet and giant champion claws of this set are utterly stunning, and what with being plastic much better for conversion work like making slaanesh chariots.
I really like these models. While I have to agree I would have loved to see some kind of “speed” (not drugs, you silly Slaanesh worshippers, stay away!) in the positions of the models I can understand where they got this look about those poses. In the old Realm of Chaos books (which is the source of recent Chaos Daemons model style) the artwork actually depicts these Daemonettes on the Steeds to sit like these models do. I would have liked some speed in the models as I said, but when the mounts don’t look like they’re running I think I can survive.
I’m surely getting at least 10 for my Chaos Daemons in 40k. They feel like the only Fast Attack choice that is worth it imo (if you don’t go for fluff) so it shouldn’t be hard to field some of those in my army. And they aren’t very expensive either so that’s great as well!
Great movie John, and about the Slaanesh thing… well… we are all Slaanesh like in some degree or other. And hail the Chaos Prince! And now I should go feed those women I have locked up in my basement…
It’s not prnounced ‘Sla – neesh’. It’s not spelt that way either. ‘Sla-nesh’. Elongate the ‘a’ sound, if anything, sinc’e it’s spelt ‘Slaanesh’.
Onto the kit, then. It’s utterly vile, in my opinion. A travesty that could not insult the ‘memory’ of the previous metal sculpts any more if it tried.
First of all, it carries on the style of the Daemonette plastic kit, which like this one, is a massive leap down in quality from the 6th ed metals. Say whatever you like about them being ‘more true to what Slaanesh is’, or any such nonsense, but the fact is that the style changed because GW wanted to make its model line more child-friendly – which meant attractive Daemon ladies with three sets of breasts were right out – so we got the ugly, almost monoposed garbage that is the plastic Daemonettes, and they remain to blight this kit too.
Second, the steeds do not look remotely agile, fast or deadly, as they are meant to be. They look like fat, lumbering creatures, and the lazily sculpted pose of the riders matches that aesthetic, making them look more like Cold Ones than Steeds of Slaanesh. Compare them to the metals, which had a real sense of mobility and speed, and the riders poses reflected that too.
The banner is alright, and some of the big claws could be useful in Herald/Daemon Prince/Keeper of Secrets conversions, but other than that this kit is, quite frankly, a waste of plastic.
Hey mate relax on how people pronounce things you dont need to correct folk on it and rage over it as lets face it were hear to look at an unboxing not take a english corse, And dont forget GW write all the fluff so they decide what is and isnt true to fluff i mean they could turn around to us guys and say hey heres what happened the warp suddenly went backwards and slaanesh changed he/she/its name to dave and is now the god of the orks while sigmar tears apart the boundaries of reality to become the new emperor working for khane and together they rode off into the sun set and the tau lived happily ever after. I know that was just pointless drivel but what im saying it mabye this is the new way GW want to show slaanesh and change is good i mean khorns blood letters have had about 4 remakes now? the currant ones are quite close to the first ones but personally it think thats cool you have to remember these are daemons so as it says they can take on any form you have just managed to get yourself in a very one track mind on what YOU think there models should look like and look at the detail in the kits mate there anything BUT a waste of plastic me and several others out there think there stunning plenty of chances for both painting and as john said golden daemon entrants …. finally if the poses are what are bothering you so much and you feel the sculpts are so poor go grab some green stuff and a modeling kit make your own and take some piccys and share it with us guys here on BOW i personaly would love to see the results as it is nice to see different peoples take on units and come on we all love a good old scratch build
Well, first off, it is obvious from the spelling of Slaanesh that John’s pronunciation is wrong. I do feel that you may be interpreting more anger in my comments on that than there is. I just like things to be pronounced correctly. And to my knowledge, GW have never changed it. Additionally, we don’t need to be on an ‘English course’ to spell and pronounce words correctly – just because this is the internet doesn’t mean standards of language need to drop.
Whether or not one could or would make a fluff argument about the appearence of the Daemonettes, it is irrelevant. I believe that GW decided to go backwards with the style because they were trying to make the plastics more child-friendly than the metals. Regardless, the plastics are poor models – ugly to look at and with very little variety in pose. These Seekers are no different: the riders all sit bolt upright in the exact same pose, and the steeds themselves convey no mobility whatsoever. For a unit that is Fast Cavalry and has M10, they look dreadfully static.
They might well be detailed, but it does not change the fact that they are unpleasant to look at, fail to aptly capture the character of the unit they are supposed to represent, and still pale in comparison to the previous metal models.
I do not feel that one should be forced to convert to make models halfway bearable either, so I don’t see that as a point in their favour. And indeed, I converted two units of Seekers some years ago anyway, from the excellent metal Daemonettes and BfSP spiders – not to mention the fact that I still have a unit of the superb metal Seekers, so I have no need or inclination to purchase these inferior plastics.
I’m not really surprised to see that my comments are marked negatively and yours positively – it seems that this community is very set in agreeing with BoW in whatever they say, and any difference in opinion is shunned.
I didn’t say that just because this is over the internet we have to instantly drop our standards i just saw your comment on the spelling and pronouncing as unnecessary, and part of the fun of plastics is giving you the chance to make good conversions and bring some individuality into the game and you have to remember mate plastics are much harder to create detailed interesting poses with than metals just purely due to casting processes and also remember that GW have to be fairly fast about there releases to keep things fresh and up to date so going into such detail might not always be viable finally not everyone agrees with BoWs take on things i my self have disagreed in the past over many different reviews and rules and ive been marked positively for that and marked negatively for agreeing and as all of the guys from BoW have said they welcome our retorts and different takes and most of the time ask for us to reply in the comments section so its not about that mate its just when someone leaves a comment in the community’s eye that looks like a plain and simple “trolling” people are going to respond now im not here to flame you i just enjoy debate and discussion as much as the next guy and please dont take any of this personally its just as basic as i disagree with what you have said 🙂
Firstly, you don’t need to make excuses for GW. You say they don’t have enough time to ‘go into detail’ while at the time praising the level of detail on these models? Contradiction. Somehow, I think that if they had spent the time making the models fit the unit, rather than overloading them with tiny details that just make them more difficult to paint and are barely seen (as is increasingly the case), they might have done better out of it.
If what I’ve put is trolling in the ‘community’s eyes’, then I wonder how much I’d want to be part of such a community. As I understand it, trolling would be to type something as ineloquent or useless as ‘Lol thes modelz suk’, or just filling my post with swear words and gibberish. As it is, I presented my very strong views on the models in an expressive but overall polite fashion, and went into detail on exactly why I don’t like them. In my eyes, a community should at the least respect that presentation, even if they do not agree with the sentiment (which apparently many do not), but what seems more common is that a disagreement in opinion results in an immediate negative mark being placed on said comment, regardless of the nature of the content.
As for my commentary about agreement and disagreement with BoW, I brought it up because the exact same sort of thing occured whenever I tried to express dislike of 8th edition. It seems, to me at least, that it doesn’t matter what my complaints were, or how I presented them, to not be swept up in 8th was to be immediately rejectable an approach, as far as the community goes.
I havn’t taken anything personally, I have merely defended my points against what I do not see as valid counterpoints.
Ant-eaters from hell!
we’re all DOOMED!!!!!
Mixed feelings about this kit. I like the Steeds and the detail of the kit is very good over all, but the riders don’t look very dynamic to me. Not sure when GW changed the Slaanesh Icon but I wish they would change it back to the old one.
He is talking about daemonets being tight and crisp
I like the models, but as has been said above – why didn’t they use more dynamics? These girls especially are supposed to be lightning fast. Orc boar boyz look great in this respect. They look good, but could look even better.
Sweeeeet they will look gorgeous in my Daemons army 😀
