What Is Your 2015 Gaming Resolution?
December 31, 2014 by brennon
It's that time of the year where we start to make a whole bunch of different promises to ourselves and other people about what we're going to do in the year ahead. As gamers we're going to vow to paint, build, play and explore plenty of interesting avenues of our hobby I'm sure and so we'd love to know what you think. To start things off, here are my resolutions...
Paint Your Stuff!
There is still a lot of stuff I haven't painted from 2014. I did really well during the Summer to get a lot of Warzone: Resurrection and SAGA stuff done but as the year came to a close I've stopped painted as much apart from single models.
So, with that in mind I'm going to resolve myself to painting what I have before I start buying too much more stuff! I have a lot of Lord of the Rings to paint (incidentally it's Gondorians as above!), especially small starter warbands, and also a massive pile of Dwarfs for Warhammer Fantasy that I was kindly given by a friend.
Try This Game!
There are a number of different games that I should try but never got round to in 2014. One of these is Malifaux. I haven played a few demo games and I enjoy the mechanics but never actually started playing it. I think this year I'm going to make sure I give it a go!
Branch Out!
As well as wargaming I think this year I'm going to focus in on buying more board games and card games. In our group this has usually fallen to one friend who is really into them but this time around I reckon I'd like to have some in my own collection. I have a handful of games already but there are a whole bunch that I'd like to pick up but just never did in 2014 like Dead of Winter. 2015 will be the year of a bigger board game collection!
What About You?
So that's me, but what about you? This is a quick look at what I've got to try and work through and there's more on the table as you can see! In terms of painting and hobby demyse has already let us know what he's doing (there's quite the mountain for him to work through!) but let us know below what games, models, and genres you're going to be looking at in 2015.

To actually find some time and my mojo again to get some games in. Hopefully Sword and Spear will give me the Impetus I need
A few resolutions (that most likely will not be kept – but you have to have some goals!)
1. Paint the damn model mountain!
2. Play more games
3. Plan and finish the new games room (we are building a new house – the basement is ALL MINE Mwahahaha!
4. Get the son more involved
To each and all a Happy and prosperous New Year!!
I resolve to game lots, yet buy more games than I play, more minis than I use, and to paint nowhere near enough of them. I feel confident I can keep these resolutions.
Plenty of ideas and virtually no spare time for them, as usual…
I must paint a Somali force to use against my italians in a modern scenario. I want to buy and paint a small british force for Warlord Games’ Blood on the Nile. I’m slowly and painfully working on a project for a Falklands War game using Force on Force, currently working on some Gripping Beast’s beautiful argentine infantry. I’d like to try In Her Majesty’s Name but I still lack boh the rules and the minis. That’s all 28mm stuff, but I also have a couple of tons of 15mm stuff to build and paint, mostly Battlefront. Will I make it in just one year? Fat chance… But I’m gonna try at least!
Would love to see more Malifaux coverage on B.o.W. 🙂
I am going to try and get more of my figures painted – and hopefully play more games of WMHD’s and Malifaux.
My new years resolution is to visit more gaming conventions and tournaments.
Hmmm well as usual I would like not to buy minis before I finish painting the ones I have (impossible). I also would like to play BOLT Action and Warmachine this year plus finish my Skaven Army (impossible if the Skaven rumors are true).
I need to get over my stupid shyness, get out of the bloody house and GAME 🙂
This years gaming resolutions are
Paint as much of the grey army as possible
Paint the minis with the two D&D board games I have
Play more Bolt Action
Branch out and play Malifaux and Helldorado
To buy, paint and play the Skaven army I’ve been planning to build for the last 10+ years. Ohh and drink more Hobgoblin beer (should be able to achieve at least one of these).
I treat my Wargaming hobby just like everything else in life. I bite off far more than I can eat and just keep on chewing.
There’s so much I want to do all the time. This coming year I’d like to revisit Musket and Tomahawks and finally get my British wilderness force off the ground. In Saga I want to do a couple of warbands for Crescent and cross and also get more people playing down at our local club.
I want to get all my Carnevale figures painted ready for when I get all my kickstarter goodies as I will be trying to get some interest in the game from friends prior to the new rule set release.
For my WWll collection I want to get a Japanese force together and also get my British Airborne painted. Having seen the 3ups of the warlord Panzer Grenadiers I know they are going to feature sometime.
I would also like to start a large project not sure what yet. I thought I’d narrowed it down to ACW or Napoleonics but then a friend has shown interest in doing something Ancient in 28mm.
Another game I have neglected has been Bushido so hopefully I will be able to get some games in.
New game I’d like to try Dropzone Commander.
That’s the plan for 2015. How much of it I get done, well that’s another thing, as long as I’m having fun I don’t really care. One things for sure the plan will go completely out the window after Salute in April.
I’d also like to get up to some Steampunkery 🙂
Well for one that I put lot of time and effort to my Infinity models. Other than that getting FoW project moving is rather no brainer.
1. Make a dent in my personal Mount Everest of plastic, resin and metal.
2. Play more board games and introduce more of them to my club.
3. Play more Warmahordes.
1. The same as every year. Buy less, paint more. I try this for about 10 years now. It stayed the same. Interessting enough: the ratio of buying/painting is quite stable. So when I buy more, I paint more (but of course not everything, I wouldn’t be a wargamer if I did this). So maybe I need to buy more… hm….
2. Try out Kings of War 2nd Ed.
3. More Pen & Paper RPGs. The Degenesis looks awesome.
Try to focus on just two or three games (maybe four) instead of everything as once. Paint up all the miniatures I have from various kickstarters and get playing.
I want to try to finally get my wargame out if possible. I’ve sculpted 2 of the 4 factions, but I’ve been held up cos I am waiting on recasts from Troll Forged for several months that I need to do the other two miniature ranges.
Like Dropzone Commander, I want to release 4 factions at the same time, so people get a good idea of the world – especially since there are no humans or anything that even walks on legs (everything floats) I think it’s even more important to see the “full picture” to help people understand it.
Build a new fantasy tabletop.
Find people.
Game.
-Game a lot more…I kinda took a break mid-2014. But I’ve been getting the itch again these past few months so I think it is time to play.
-Focus on only two or three games…when I got back into minis in 2013 I must have tried over a dozen different games and bought at least a starter force for each of them. This year I plan on keeping my focus on Malifaux and Dark Age. If Bushido gets a resurgence with my gaming group I may jump back into that game.
-Paint, paint, paint. I’m a slow painter so I’m going to set a monthly goal of at least 10 minis. Thankfully I’m not playing any large scale games so even this small number will make an obvious dent in my collection. Been also thinking about doing a blog or maybe a forum thread here on BoW of my models…see if by sharing more with the community it helps encourage me to finish.
Paint more than the 0 miniatures I painted this year.
Try and stop buying more miniatures (ha – as if)
Paint the model mountain. Branch out into dropzone commander. I have had my eye on this for a while. But like others- the model mountain is one big reason I don’t need to buy any more miniatures yet!
1. Paint what I want to keep and am actually going to play.
2. Sell off what I’m not likely to be playing.
2 is always so hard…
Well, sounds like we all have similar aims….
1) Finish my incomplete painted figs for my Undead KoW army (those I already own-I don’t
plan on buying more just yet).
2) Finish my small force of Mantic Dwarfs for KoW
3) Finish my Perry/Victrix/Warlord Napoleonic Brits
4) Finish my Perry/Victrix/Warlord Napoleonic French
5) Start a new force of semi historical humans for KoW Kingdoms of Men
6) Get set for the Mantic Dungeon Quest releases (not released until August or
thereabouts, so plenty of time!)
7) Actually play some games instead of just painting figs then putting them on a shelf or in a
box….
Finally decide which infinity faction I really want , pint up some of the 200 15 mm models , get some decent 15 mm sci fi terrain , hide more models I buy from hasslefree from the purse strings and get to salute this year without 1/2 hr to go
Don’t buy anything else till I’ve finished all the stuff in boxes!!
For most people that means never buying another miniature again.
This year I have decided to get into Bolt Action for real. I got the rules and some army books last year so now I need to get the minis. I also want a North african board to go with the game. A larger project that you first think.
And the second thing is that I have wanted to get into the whole hobby youtube experience and this year might be the year to do it. BoW have been such a big inspiration both in showing that it can be done but also in raising the quality of video and content. So why not?
– Play more!
– Build and paint my 5 in 1 elf Blood Bowl team.
– Finish painting my Infinity Aleph force.
– Finish my gaming table.
– Kustom build even more orky stuff for my ever growing Waaagh! Long live warboss Bloojaw! 😉
I plan on painting a lot this year. I have tons of stuff to finish.
Resolutions….
Well I’m going to try painting a few more models then last year.
And I’m not going to buy into a new miniatures game… probably going to fail this one big time.
finish my heavy bomber zeppelin…. paint some of my boys since I got 20 out of 120 painted… paint some more vehicles finish my grot tank custom builds….. finish my new gaming table… and get power to my new garage (im a electrical technician and my garage is my new gaming room) oh and also get some soviet grots ordered from Kromlech as their awesome and suit my army rather well
Number one is to get my bolt action minis painted.
Number two is to help make 3con in Ft. Wayne Indiana a success.
Keep up my Shadowrun fun. 12Trees is ready to get his mojo on. A weekly game with some great people.
DUST action with Babylon and the rpg.
Happy New year too all and to all a good night.
This year:
1. Do at least 30 mins of painting/modelling every day
2. Play more games
3. Outside of 40k try Infinity or Malifaux
4. Get more involved at my local games club/shop Irresistible Force
5. Be more active here
Happy New Year everyone
To implement The Cunning Plan so I have more time to spend doing things I want to do, including painting, modelling (of the miniatures variety, not scanty clothing) and getting in some games including all varieties of Dreadball, Bolt Action, FOW, AvP and Deadzone.
all to be completed by the end of 2015……….
1/ New 1850 Scythes force.
2/ Armies on Parade board.
3/ 50pts Malifaux crew.
4/ 50pt Khador army.
5/ Buy and learn to use an airbrush.
6/ Start a Horus Heresy legion.
7/ Deadzone faction starter.
Most of this I already own and has been collecting dust for quite some time.
….and a happy new year to you all.
I would like to resolve to have at least one gaming experience other than watching BOW each month, so twelve games of something and to paint my mecha front stuff when it arrives.
In those times loooong ago I to did those horrible lists of doom myself. For example: things I had to do on my vacation in and around the house. I did not get started because that damn list was soooo long. So I found every thing else much more important to do right now than anything on that list. So I got stressed…because the list was still sooo long…and not much time left. In the end I was frustrated about the fact that I didnt get it all done…something that was unrealistic from the start…and so much so that I did not enjoy the vacation at all. That repeated itself over far to many years!!!
So for everyone who´s experiences are the same…throw away those lists of doom right away! Make something different instead…and do it RIGHT NOW!
1. Make what is most important to you right now your ONE goal!
2. Dont make it broad like “paint more”! Get as specific as possible!
3. Keep it small in size and give it a fix date in the near future that is realistic! (This mini in the next 2 weeks)
4. Get everything else out of your sight (into a box ect.) so it can not distract you!
5. Reward yourself for an achieved goal! (and keep it in perspektiv)
6. Repeat 1-5
The more you want to get done…the less is actually going to get done..the more frustrated you get…the less gets done…you get the picture.
With this you get started faster…get results faster…get a reward and motivation for the next goal faster..and feel better all around! This is not only helpfull with your hobby…this helps with almost everything…from work to loosing weight!
Happy New Year everybody!
My resolution?
To win a game of anything for a change!! 2014 had a distinct victory drought!
1. Break ground on the mancave
2. Paint for pleasure rather than to accommodate our RPG group i.e. painting madly and scrambling to build epic terrain after they voice their decision to wander off in a random and totally unprepared direction. Having said that, finish at least one fantasy army.
3. Find a good set of near future sci-fi rules… or dredge up my old ones.
4. Limit expenditures in aforementioned ‘re-entry into sci-fi. Tough… really got the bug after buying three outstanding Antenocitis solid resin grav tanks for only 45 pounds.
5. Create more… buy less.
5. Restrain myself, and not get into : Ancients, Napoleonics, Bolt Action… yikes.
I will start following the list of to do’s I have made for the next year and meet the deadlines set.
I also convert a lot of stuff, bits, odds and sods into figures and machines to use in a large scale wargaming the figures are 41/2 inches tall. Each figure cots 16.5 pence to start with.
What can I say is I am extremely lucky my wife plays as well, so finishing the large number of 28mm ACW and playing would be a good thing.
May I as a newby here wish all a really good coming year good luck with those mountains.
And leave you with a thought to picture, a gaming mucker measures his ECW covenanters not in units fielded but by yardage, IE he might field a yard of shot a yard of pike in ranks of four several times supported by x hundred cavalry. You get the picture but again he too has been playing since seven too.
chris and V
1. paint more stuff than I buy
2. play more games
That is all. In fact only #2 will lead to a happier life, though #1 will lead to a more peaceful home life.
Get my all Inquisition1850 point army done and practiced in time for the Harvester of Souls GT in October. That’s right, I’m going all inquisition. 2 inquisitorial detachments, no allies. It’s going to be an adventure to try and try to make work and even modestly competitive.
– Consolidate on what I’ve got into recently:
= Infinity
= Flames of War
= Myth
– Reboot older interests that never quite took off:
= Bushido
= Malifaux
– Either play or dispose of the GW mountains
= Maybe keep a bit (faction/army) of each just in case, but turning some of the surplus into cash and freeing up space would be a big bonus.
My airbrush booth has literally just been delivered – the final piece of my Christmas present puzzle. No excuses not to get at least 3 colours on the grey masses now!
IMHO, resolutions need to measurable or there’s just no point.
My 2014 resolutions results:
http://www.smallcuts.net/photo/?pict=resolutions2014.jsp
and in the year end report:
http://www.smallcuts.net/diary/2014.jsp
For 2015… I have thought of something, but I need to formalize and write it down first.
1) Finish building my FoW soviets
2) Paint them!
3) Paint the remaining Zombicide minatures
4) Play more
5) Buy less
6) …
7) Profit?
The same thing I resolve to do every year…paint all of the unpainted minis in my collection!
But for specific projects:
1) Finish the minis I’m painting for friends
2) Get some Robotech minis completed and build a table to two
3) Run a 40k Team League/Tournament
4) Finish building/painting a FoW Open Fire set
I want to start playing infinity, Wild West exodus, and batman… An to make a board and scenery is the plan too
I’m playing it safe, and just sticking to two things for this year.
– Finish my End Times Nagash Diorama.
– Get back into painting, and hopefully get better at it.
Good record keeping Maxxon.
Got a fair bit of dead zone, lots of mars attacks, and dungeon saga and KoW2 stuff on it’s way, so I think I’d better set some targets because last year was most unproductive. Got the army painter mega paint set for Christmas so no excuses.
So thinking realistic and specific. A unit of 5-10 figures every fortnight.
Establishing a weekly routine would be helpful.
I’ve been watching the back -catalogue of BoW weekender videos while painting which is good entertainment but sometimes spend more time watching than painting, need to find some kind of better middle ground so I’m using my painting time effectively.
Resolutions are like water running through your fingers. Goals however, that’s different. I aim to be playing 40K second edition as possible with armies built for that purpose.
To game more regularly and hash out the completed beta rules for the game I am developing in my spare time.
