You've seen the unboxing so now it's time to get a taste of playing Infinity using the Operation: Icestorm box set!
We are playing Mission #1 from the booklet and Warren it taking control of PanOceania then going up against Killian with the Nomads.
Seasoned players take note, although this is a demo game Carlos reveals some cool 3rd edition rule changes! Keep an eye-out for them and let us know below how you think they will affect the game!

I am so damn excited for this box, I already have it ordered from my local store, and I can’t wait to see if I can get infinity going in my local area again. I had it for the briefest of moments, then it disappeared…heartbreaking.

I’m abroad in France for holiday but I cannot resist to log on to see the start of Op:Icestorm Week. No way, resistance is futile and I suppose it will be like that all the week long. The monkey orders and I duly obey. XD
I’m a seasoned player and seeing how far the game has gone in this years it’s awesome! Anyway the new measurement system, edge to edge, it’s an improvement and give a neat game development than before, well done. Moreover the new dodge rule and “kinetics” open an interesting new dimension of tactical possibilities for HtH specialist, hell of an improvement too!
Can’t wait to receive my copy in mid-september, I long to have that in my hands passionately!

Colour me hooked! Always being in the game sounds like too much fun. Though for all those roll modifiers, defiantly going to need a cheat sheet or two handy I think.
Once you get into “it”, it becomes very easy and you won’t need any cheat sheet.

Ow, 90 Euros, that’s going to put this “starter” set out of the reach of a lot of stateside beginner players. I’ve noticed that Infinity in general seems a little high priced overall.
I agree that Killian explaining things and even revealing his tactics/play techniques is very helpful, but the buy-in hurdle is a little too daunting to this gamer.

I generally feel is has a very good price to value ratio, considering the high quality delivers in every regard.
I agree, specially if you split it with someone.
The price tag is not low, but the value is spot on. If it looks like the kind of thing you want to get into then the value is u to you. A PS4 costs more but I am happy to put my $ into Infinity.

I’ve no experiance with Infinity so far, but it looks like it’s a very fluid set of of rules with an unrelenting sense of peril. I am most intrigued thus far.

@3:00 when Warren wins roll – do you have to deploy first now, or can you choose?
So…
1) never leave yourself in the open and waste second part of your order…
2) Try and move without leaving cover…
Both of which Warren failed to do in his first turn, otherwise moving 1st he should have won that easily, especially after wounding on first roll-off. I’m sure he was only doing this so we could learn!

Infinity can’t be played Rambo style, no matter how lucky you are with the dice.
As an experienced player it is interesting for me to check out the new rules changes, like the dodging one at the end of the video. keep on!

quick question: are the line of fire rules also simplified for the first scenario and are they expanded on later?
because no way you would NOT be in cover when climbing onto the far end of a building from a guy on ground level. heck, he would only be able to see your head and shoulders if you were dumb enough not to roll onto the roof… ok, playability vs realism, I get that
but a +3 for cover seems reasonable (your base definitely touches what gives you the cover after all)
This is a good way to slowly introduce a new player. And I’m glad I learned something about N3. I WANT MOAR! 😀

This is my first look at these rules, seem pretty good so. Can’t wait to see the other videos.
Have been slowly collecting stuff since a little after the last Infinity week but only recently started playing with a mate so this is really interesting and helpful for us even though we are still getting to grips with the current rules. Will provide a great source for the future as I am still referring back to the original vids, that’s what I love about the BOW themed weeks – a resource that keeps on giving 🙂

Since I already have some Haqqislam and Yu Jing, I’m not entirely sold on the miniatures (as beautiful as they are) but I’d love to get my hands on the rest of the box. Those buildings would definitely cut down on the amount of MAS buildings I need to build!

Like the learning by playing approach very much. A few rules to play with and enough involvement to repeat those rules to get them memorized without getting bored. And then build upon that solide base one by one. Nicely done!
I agree. I learned that I need to take a slightly different approach when introducing people to Infinity. Carlos an, Killian, and Warren made it look fun!

I personally think both these games have benefited from BoW coverage. I am considering a return look at Bolt Action.

Well, I guess I’ll be the odd one out, then. The minis are stunning, yes, but this is in fact the first demo battle I’ve seen on BoW that has dampened my interest in a game. I’m not seeing anything particularly clever or intuitive in the mechanics. I got a few “wow”-experiences out of the MERCS- and Bolt Action demos (and subsequently invested in both games), but to be honest, this left me cold.
Interesting… Remember you were only seeing the tiny tip of the iceberg with the most basic troop type. It is like saying I don’t like the taste of ice cream after only ever seeing a picture of one. But then again this might not be the game type for you…

Looking forward to trying this game out. I really like the concept of a face to face roll, where even though you might have made a successful skill check, you can still lose if your opponents success is greater than yours. Interesting stuff.
Looking forward to the rest of Op: Icestorm week, and I’m sure it’s too late to have any effect on these videos, but guys, please please please in the future try to position your cameras so that when you cut in to a close up, the camera position doesn’t flip the side of the screen that the players are on. It confuses the brain. In film terms it’s called “crossing the line of action”, and is a general no-no unless you’re trying to achieve a disorientating effect. If it helps, in this video for example, draw an imaginary line from Warren to Killian (this is the line of action) and put all your cameras on one side of the line. They’ll all cut beautifully together.

As an Infinity player; I am very excited about Infinity week and this demo has got it off to a great start. I can’t wait to see the heavys in action.
For anyone who is worried about the cost; Infinity is a skirmish game that does not require big armies, unlike 40K for instance. So if you can’t stretch to buying OP Ice Storm I would recommend waiting for the official release of the 3rd. Edition rules. Corvus Belli are brilliant for letting everyone download their rules for free from their website. There is also an excellent wikki support site for the game as well. You can start playing with relatively few miniatures to begin with and gradually build your army over time without worrying about cracking your overdraft.
Liking the leaked changes for 3rd Edition so far.

I am very interested in Infinity, as is my wife. This includes my own (Panoceania) and her favourite (Nomads) all in one box! I would like to get her and I into wargaming and Infinity seems like a good game to start with.

Great vid! There’s just one simple question I have: does a unit have unlimited AROs per turn? i.e if the active player decides to lemming his troops past the vision of a reactive soldier, does it have an ARO against all of them in the one turn?
If it can see them each time they use an order then yes!
And if you consider a M16/M4 magazine can have 30 rnds then this isn’t implausible.

Great demo game! By only concentrating on a few things you make it easier for newcomers to get the feel for the game, without get bogged down by too many rules at once. Already pre-ordered my starter box. Love the prize that you are giving away, will be a fantastic expansion to both the factions especially for new players.

Loved the previous Infinity week and really looking forward to seeing the rest of this one. Climbing rule change is a huge improvement and will prevent a lot of unnecessary deaths 🙂 Did initiative change as well, do you no longer get the choice of deployment vs fist go or was it just for this mission? Can’t wait to see the other rule changes.

I think I chose exactly the right time to quit Warhammer 40k and look out for a new TT. Infinity! I think this Tabletop will be great. Rules are a lot more interactive. That game is awesome (and by the way: the guys who do the game are far more sympathtic than Games Workshop!). Ordered the starter box yesterday!!!

Definitely think the ARO is the best thing about the game. It also makes total sense that if a model is running from cover to cover there is no modifier for cover on the shot. The ARO guy would shoot at him between cover rather than wait for him to reach the cover and open fire.

I guess the one thing that always confused me about the face to face shooting rolls was how the dice rolls could cancel each other out. It took me a while to figure out from the rules that the shots don’t cancel each other out on a one-for-one basis (or do they?).
So in a scenario where both models need 12 to hit, if the attacker rolls:
3, 6, 9, 15
..and the reactive model makes a BS ARO and rolls:
8
That 8 cancels out the 3 and 6 (and thus the 9 is the only ‘hit’). Er.. right?
Correct as far as I can see. The 8 beats the 3 & 6 but is trumped by the 9, therefore the player who rolled the 9 wins the ftf roll.
Nice little demo game and a few things have ‘clicked’ for me. Cant wait to get hold of my set and start playing through these missions!

Pre ordered altho I only play Yu Jing. I found a mate that is interested in the figures, and I wanted the rest. We both end up happy.

Enjoyed watching this a lot. Quite a different ruleset so really useful to see this kind of run through. In terms of the set it looks really good, I’ve always worried about terrain for this game so great to see something that gives you everything you need. I just wish it had Yu Jing as that’s what I’d love to get. I may just wait for the bits to be available separately

As Infinity Warcor and in order to make a demo next saturday on Bilbao I had the chance to have a look at the Operation: Icestorm’s rulebook. In spanish version I read that if you declare as ARO to dodge, that 2″ (or larger with Kinematics) movement cannot end with your miniature in BtB to an enemy… I cannot check the english version. Am I misreading N3’s Dodge skill?

I have high hopes for N3. Would love to see the rumours of balance changes between unit types come to fruition. Currently there’s only a few Medium and Heavy infantry I’d even consider using on a regular basis. They just don’t do enough for their points in an ITS scenario.
Can’t wait for this new book to come down the pipes. Super excited.

I love the look of the blue vs red in Nomads vs Pan-O… Nomads should obviously be dominating these games on account of the fact that I like and collect Nomads and blind team support is a rather acceptable form of insanity!

I really like the way the rules are introduced as missions go. It’s far easier to get into something simple and then improving the tactical and complexity levels. Nice game. Nice starter set.
It is a while since i played this game, This demo was a good reminder of the basic rules and also of just how awesome the game is. made it seem like I had only played it yesterday! Really impressed with the new starter pack.

Scenarios in the starter look really good for teaching the rules.
I like the “roll under but closest to target number” mechanic.

I’ve shelved my usual hobby stuff for getting started with Infinity, I even went out and bought some Yu Jing Japanese miniatures for painting purposes… I am seated comfortably aboard the hype train! 🙂
Infinity looks awesome and I’m really enjoying the background story, history and timeline.
Robot ninjas, russian sappers, scottish werewolves, Islamic super soldiers and greek mythology clash in the far reaches of outer space! What’s not to like?

Great demo with some excellent explanations.
Nice demo and nice little reveals of the new rules. Using the bases to measure weapon distances, the making of climbing without a ladder a long skill and a unified dodge roll are streamlining the game quite a bit.
Can’t wait for other changes.

The rule changes make sense, I think. It brings Infinity more in line with other miniature games.

Sigh now I am definitely going to have to pick this game up! It looks a lot of fun and relatively easy to pick up the basics if this demo is anything to go by. I found the video very informative and well paced so I wasn’t overwhelmed with information.

I’m preordering this set as soon as my pay comes through. In my opinion, it’s the best looking and best equipped starter kit for any wargame that I’ve played or seen.
That first armor roll seemed really easy to make, what with a 11 or more, but I’m thinking in terms of combined dice because of a D6 mindset. On a D20, heck that ain’t easy rolling higher than 11, you got 10 chances to fail or 50%, long story short – just like a 4+ Armor Save, lol!
God, please I hope I win this prize. Been wanting to playing a mini game for awhile now.

Question for Carlos:
I heard a rumor that you weren’t allowed to dodge into combat in third (which makes me, and my ISS Ninjas sad), but you mentioned in the demo that this was allowed. Can you confirm that this is still allowed in 3rd edition?
I don’t think Carlos meant you can actually dodge into CC – rather that your dodge can move you further, and therefore mean you are closer to any target you wish to engage in CC on your next order.

At my local game store we are using any new rule we see from these videos. The new rules did make a difference!!!
I like the change to the climb mechanic, but what happens when the climbing distance exceeds the characters total move value? If the climb is 20″, would I spend a single long action to complete it?

I have been on the fence for a while, but this new starter set will likely get me to finally buy into Infinity.
The silhouette is a great improvement… still I wonder why Corvus Belli did not also streamline the Line of sight rules…. from what I can tell it still requires taking a laser pointer and firing it at the template in all it’s positions along the path to determine whether there is line of sight or not. I’d rather be able to determine it by tracing a line from base to base, give or take the rules for blocking terrain (height, visibility and such).
Thankfully, the rules for gaining cover are straightforward so it’s not as much of an issue there as with other games….
Loved it when Warren asked about the difference between the ARM rolls and everything else.
I have never found a LoS rule that works in every situation, but I do like Infinity’s cover rules.
I know Mike is a nice guy, but Killian is better when it comes to screenability, him being more understandable and very to the point makes up a large part of this benefit

Whenever a wargame goes through an edition change, they’re are always some fears about the direction that it goes in and how the designers might take the game into a direction that is contrary to how the players feel is how the game is meant to be played. Those fears were completely unjustified, and I’m quite happy to see that the soul of Infinity is still in the game from this demo.

Interesting to see a battle with such modest forces! Seems like a good way to start.
I rember starting infinity two years back with the same sort of game – finished with a regular and a Kazak fighting to the death with pistols behind a log cabin.
This shows off the intent of the pack really well in terms of the foundation/introduction that, hopefully many, new players will have in the game. Genesis, but with Fusiliers.
