Warlord Games is currently taking pre-orders for a re-released set that could well find its way into any good Roman collector's collection. The 28mm scale Early Imperial Romans Testudo can be snapped up to add to your collection.

Early Imperial Roman Testudo & Centurion - Warlord Games

Early Imperial Roman - Testudo // Warlord Games

The Testudo wasn't used quite as often as you might have expected if you were simply going by film and TV. However, if you were marching up towards the walls of an enemy fortification and wanted to protect yourself then the Testudo, the "tortoise", would protect you very well.

Early Imperial Roman Testudo 2 - Warlord Games

This interlocking shell of scutum shields meant that any bullet, arrow or spear would hopefully glance off and land harmlessly in the dirt. Just make sure that the rest of your fellow soldiers are marching in time and keeping a weather eye out!

This set comes with the multi-part resin Imperial Roman Testudo, plus you'll also get the multi-part metal Imperial Roman Centurion, who can lead this band of soldiers into the heart of the action.

This also comes with four metal arrows, which you can stick into the shields, showing the Testudo in the heat of battle. You could also mix and match where the arrows are, allowing you to include more Testudo in your army.

Finally, you also get a set of full-colour, waterslide Imperial Roman Shield Decal Sheets, which means you don't have to do all of that pesky freehand. I think that would kill my fingers if I had to try and delicately paint on all of the designs across every shield!

Will you be picking up a new-look Testudo for your Roman armies in Hail Caesar?
