3 New Wargames Announced By Osprey – Samurai, Trenches & More
January 28, 2026 by brennon
Osprey Games announced three new wargames that will be joining their collection throughout the course of 2026. We have some great Historical wargames coming alongside another focused on clashes between Orcs and Goblins!
Daimyo // Osprey Games
The first set of rules we're looking at is for Daimyo by Alexander Smith. This has been designed as a set of fast-play, mass battle wargaming rules that cover the Sengoku period of Japanese history.
You will take control of your clan, assembling your armies and crushing your enemies in the hopes of uniting Japan under your banner. The core of the game revolves around your army, made up of units and groups of units known as a contingent. Unit characteristics are then determined by varying dice types. Your commanders also play a role in the battle with a variety of abilities that can turn the tide at opportune moments.
The book also comes with a number of scenarios featuring varying themes and objectives that will give you scope for lots of different battles. There is also a full, simple-to-play map-based campaign included if you want to take your clashes beyond simple one-off affairs.
Trench Raiders
Next up, we're moving to World War I with Trench Raiders by Daniel Pilgrim.
Trench Raiders // Osprey Games
Trench Raiders covers an often overlooked aspect of combat during the Great War, where you bring a force of ten or so figures together to, you've guessed it, raid the opposition trenches. Trench Raiders uses a d6 system and can be tweaked to work as a competitive or solo/cooperative game if you'd prefer.
As well as the clashes between your soldiers, you'll also find rules within for building up the defences and fortifications around your trench. Army lists within will cover the various forces fighting on the Western Front, plus you'll also find a bunch of scenarios to play AND a full campaign system.
Pillars of Gromlak
Last but not least, we have a set of rules that don't even have a cover yet! Pillars of Gromlak by Dan Bonter is a campaign-based Fantasy skirmish wargame focused on Orcs and Goblins.
"Warlord Gordrang Skullsplitter is dead, crushed by a rampaging mastodon. The council of Elder Shamans need to crown a new Warlord before the fractious nature of goblinkind tears the tribe apart. The Shamans know that no Orc will tolerate another sitting between the Pillars of Gromlak before they have proved themselves worthy. Prove your worth, either through low cunning or brute force and lead the tribe to glory."
When you dive into Pillars of Gromlak, you'll find a campaign-based, skirmish wargame where you are trying to become Warlord of the Orc Tribe. This happens through taking part in Trials where one player competes against the others. Winning or losing a Trial means that your Infamy goes up or down, affecting your warband's success in future Trials and the ability to recruit more followers to your cause.
All of this runs through a simple dice pool-based combat mechanic, which should see you vying for control of the Orc Tribe in no time at all.
Daimyo is set for release in July 2026, followed by Trench Raiders in September 2026. Pillars of Gromlak will then cap off this trio of games with a November 2026 release.

Becoming an Orc warboss? Colour me interested. Now I need to look what that Dan Bonter has done before and what the verdicts on those are XD
Trench raid interesting as most ww1 games recently seem to ignore the whole trench aspect. Skirmish raids work well for it. The old warhammer historical great war rules did a good job of adding trench raids as a different way of playing the main wargame
I like the post-centenial flood of WWI games. Maybe we’ll even get some that cover fronts other than the western.
All in all, a slew of fun titles. I hope the orc one is the best because an orcs-and-goblins campaign with a definite end-goal in mind is both cool and a good reason to go into the 9th Age miniature section to look for good models.
Daimyo could peak my interest based on the scale: Wargames Atlantic 10mm figures might be perfect for it!
Given its mass battle, you can probably glue whatever scale you like to the bases.
These look like fun. I usually buy the blue book rules and I even play a few. Trench Raiders looks like the most likely to get played, although with a large collection of A War Transformed miniatures then I’ll probably be adapting it to that setting.
