New War Of Austrian Succession Miniatures From Flags Of War
February 3, 2026 by brennon
The folks at Flags of War have expanded their War of Austrian Succession range with plenty of additional character, troop and artillery sets for use in your 28mm scale Historical wargames. They would also be useful for the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion.
Field Marshal John Ligonier // Flags of War
We start with some characters for the period and leading the way on horseback is Field Marshal John Ligonier. Born in France, Ligonier joined the British Army as a volunteer in 1702 and remained dedicated to their cause for over sixty years. He fought in the wars of the Spanish Succession, the Quadruple Alliance and the Austrian Succession.
He also served in the Seven Years' War as the Master-General of the Ordnance and Minister of War for Pitt–Newcastle. After quite an active life, he was able to retire and died peacefully at home.
Next up, we're going to be checking out Karl August, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont.
Karl August - Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont // Flags of War
The Waldecks had a tradition of military service within the Dutch Army. Karl was appointed as commander of the Dutch Army during the War of Austrian Succession but his force was defeated at the Battle of Fontenoy, the Battle of Rocoux and the Battle of Lauffeld. Not a great resume. He did end up becoming Fieldmarshal of the Holy Roman Empire in 1746, though!
Keeping up with the characters, we have the Marshal of France, Maurice de Saxe.
Marshal of France - Maurice de Saxe // Flags of War
de Saxe was a prominent soldier, general and military theorist who served in the Army of the Holy Roman Empire and the Imperial Army before joining up with the French. He was then appointed First Marshal of France and then Marshal General of France. He fought in many battles and won many victories during the War of Austrian Succession, particularly at the Battle of Fontenoy that we mentioned earlier.
New Troops & Artillery
As well as the three new character packs, you can also get your hands on some new troops and artillery to use in your games.
French Infantry Command 2 // Flags of War
The second of the French Infantry Command sets comes with a mounted and on-foot officer, as well as a fellow to use as your standard bearer and a musician playing the drum. A nicely detailed set, as always, for leading the way on the tabletop.
The French also get access to a full Artillery Crew.
French Artillery Crew // Flags of War
You have a fellow loading the cannon, one carrying water to dose the gun once it's got hot and another ready to light and fire! You also have an artillery expert, taking a look at where the shots are landing and bellowing orders to adjust for elevation.
If you're looking to bolster the Dutch, then you can also get a set of Dutch Grenadiers Marching.

They have those splendid hats and some stunning facial hair! They will look spiffing once they have all been painted up and based, ready for battle.
Last but not least, you can also get your claws into some artillery in a variety of forms. Use these for pounding enemy regiments and fortifications from a distance, punching holes for your own force to make their attack.
British 6lb Gun // Flags of War
French 4lb Gun (Swedish Style) // Flags of War
French Long 4lb Gun // Flags of War
All of these sets are now available for you to order right now from Flags of War. Snap them up and use them for all sorts of clashes. Lovely metal kits in 28mm scale that should be great for bolstering a collection.
What do you make of the new Flags of War collection?

Fleeeeeeeeeeeeeeegs
I love the sculpting on these, tons of character & flavor!
What I’d really like to see are nobles and civilians from the lace wars era.
