Themeborne, the creators of Escape The Dark Sector/Castle and The Last of Us: Escape the Dark, will be coming to Gamefound soon with a brand new Fantasy legacy game called Chronicle. We now have more details on just what the game is and how it works.

Chronicle: A Game of Fantasy Adventure // Themeborne

Chronicle is a cooperative, legacy board game with a narratively-driven campaign which brings together choose-your-own-adventure-style mechanics as well as map-based exploring. All of this starts with the Quest Book which contains narrative passages and different branching elements of your campaign based on the choices that you make.

What is Chronicle? // Themeborne

As you go through the process of exploring, you will head to different locations on the map and add stickers which represent those different places that you'd uncovered. On the way to these locations, you will work out how far you need to travel using a measuring device. The longer the journey, the more perilous, so you'll need to plan out where you go and when during your campaign.

Adventuring In Chronicle // Themeborne

You'll track your successes and failures throughout the course of your adventure, writing down what you find and how you might have resolved different situations. You will also use a series of full-colour stickers to illustrate those moments, creating a neat journal as you dive deeper into the story.

As well as following the course of the story, you'll also be able to use Skill Points gained during the adventure to advance your character and grow in power.

Chronicle - Characters // Themeborne

I am already liking the sound of this game and how it's all coming together. Themeborne do some sterling stuff (we do enjoy their games!) and this seems like a neat take on Classic Fantasy but with a new twist. I particularly like that the retro-style artwork that we've loved from Escape The Dark Castle/Sector carries through into Chronicle but in full colour this time around.

Chronicle - Heroes // Themeborne

I could see myself diving into Chronicle when they eventually release the game via Gamefound. I have been wondering about which character I'd like to play as. I do like the Barbarian but Valdrienne the Paladin seems rather awesome.

One thing I am interested in is the replay value (although that's always very much dependent on the group). If Chronicle is a BIG game, then it doesn't particularly matter but if it can be played in a dozen or so sessions, then having the ability to dive back in would be welcome. I'm sure we'll have more details soon on that.
