Howitzer. .. traditionally lobbed exploding shells which exploded just above the heads of the enemy troops.
Not at such a high angle as a mortar (which is the original indirect fire weapon), but normally not a direct shoot as a cannon – got a book some where that did go through the use of the 3 artillery pieces, in the Napoleononic era.
And for the ultimate “Geek-on” it also included the mathematics they used in the day to calculate the fireing angles

Hey, when are you guys doing hobby lab again?
Also, do you have plans for doing bolt action terrain for the eastern front? Everything thus far has been very Normandy centric.
The eastern front is pretty similar, fields and forests look the same, the only thing you might want is a few trenches and corduroy roads(basically logs).
I’m in for the Rule Book – getting it anyway (eventually), but free is good.
Really would like to get into Wild West Exodus but finding it a bit of a struggle picking up much in the uk though my FLGS said they will look into getting some in so fingers crossed

Batman hasn’t grabbed me yet but if you guys do a theme week I will so crumble and buy all the “arrow” stuff I can get. I love that tv show.
The UV light on resin 3D printer seems to just be stereo lithography which was in fact the original type of 3D printing. The Problem with it always was that some of the resin wouldn’t cure as well as other parts and designs would also trap pockets of uncured resin. The Uncured resin would slowly leak out and the not fully-cured resin was impossible to sand. It was a total nightmare to work with and even cellulose based paints and body fillers couldn’t stem the flow. I hope it’s come a long way from there but I’d certainly be wary of this form of technology until its stability is proved.

I would really like to win the Joker rule book, then I can give it to my brother-in-law as he is well into Batman. He has even had a fantastic tattoo done of the Joker. As his birthday is on Dec 26th, he often misses out on a birthday present because of Christmas, so I would love to make his year early,

Seeing that Red Orktober I just realised that I forgot to add my basing suggestion to the video last week. Why not base it on some clear plastic – probably packaging plastic (the kind you get on blister plastic) because it needs to be fairly thin. Make the footprint of the base half an inch to an inch bigger than the sub footprint and build up some water effects on top of that. That way it should blend into whatever water board you place it on.
While I’m not interested in Batman, my brother is a fan of the comics. However I can appreciate the scenery.

I am a huge batman fan and to see the tables they have made in the book just look stunning as @warzan would say! Really inspirational and I hope to see some huge Gotham based buildings coming out from knight models very soon.

I agree with you Warren about the Bolt Action resin kits sticking around for a little longer. Before buying a couple, I would have said I only want the plastic tank kits. However, due to my impatience to get an army together, I have picked up a couple (the M10 TD, M8 Greyhound, and M24 Chaffee) resin kits. They aren’t as difficult to work with as I thought they could have been. The resin kits also have weight to them which my M4A1 Sherman plastic tank doesn’t quite have…yet. I have been loading the hull of the M4A1 with all the extra metal bits from my other kits to get it some weight (like the Tamiya 1:48 kits).
Looking forward to seeing a lot more about the Batman Game…

hmmm although WWX is funded it has been very slow and painful to watch at time of writing this they are at 136k with 71 hrs to go…. Its a shame as its a good looking game.

Happy Saturday to all! Best part of this episode was seeing the Red Orktober and the look on Warren’s face! But it’s true that as soon as you prime a model of whatever size, it brings it all together and you go, “yeaaaah this is where it’s at!” and it’s those little accomplishments that keep the project moving along to completion 🙂

On a slightly more serious note…with all these amazing kick starters going on simultaneously, it’s making many a wallet cry out in pain. But how to decide? Awesome terrain in some, amazing expansions of game worlds (WWX), gorgeous resin “proxies” (TGG 2) for certain unnamed games, and light and fun board games in others…it’s kinda overwhelming isn’t it? Especially when you want them all! Decisions decisions..

The alien faction fits more smoothly into Dust because they’ve been talking about aliens since the very beginning. Just about every supplement has some mention about alien intel or artifacts.
With WWX it was just a sudden “oh hey, look! Aliens!” The idea of the aliens wasn’t introduced cleanly enough. IMHO
Anyone that’s read the fluff in the main WWX rulebook, or followed the game for a while, would understand why the aliens are there. But I agree that the introduction of the faction for potential new players could have been better.

Right now the son of my gilrfriend and i just start to create our own world of miniature using different rules from different miniature games and it’s skirmish so some rules of the batman really grab our attention like the sewers rules and the lamp post one and probably more ,
When we start to do that we just wanted to pick our favorite world, favorite mechanic, favorite size of army , favorite minis, etc and see if we can create our best of the best miniature games using best of the best components so this Batman book is a must for us the rules in it just seems creazy good so it’s in my buying list for sure

16:40 . . . Ooof. BT-7s and BA-6 armored car. Wow. I know they’re Soviet, @warzan – but carefully consider before you take these. BT-7s wdere called by MajGen E. M. Katukov (my favorite Soviet general) “Knights in Plywood.” Heavy rifle fire could get through some of the weaker points or armor. Yes, they were fast, and the 45mm wasn’t too bad for 1941, but they were horribly obsolete by the end of 1941.
If you’re playing the Soviets, and you like the StG, consider the SU-85 (long-barreled 85mm antitank gun). It’s really the Soviet answer to the StG in a lot of ways. If you like the 105mm howitzer StuH-42 variant, the SU-122 (short-barreled 122mm howitzer for infantry, trenches, bunkers, and buildings) is an ugly little b**** but man, does it get the job done.
Both vehicles are based on the T-34 chassis so gets all that awesome mobility and reliability. And both are available mid ’43 onwards.

Epic link, @johnlyons , I LOVE this site, and have used it for years (rkkaww2 – mostly for the eastern front maps). Although honestly, I think Warren and I were kidding around . . . leave it to John to find an actual Soviet 76mm gun (looks like from a T-34/76) put into a captured StG. 🙂
From the same site:
StG-III (F, I think) – operated by the 5th Guards Tank Brigade of the 4th Ukrainian Front, Sept 1944. Note the Russian lettering painted on the hull and the hand-painted star on the base of the gun.
So I guess Warren COULD have a StG or two in his Soviet army . . . If you’re going for a historical feel, just bear in mind these are the exception, not the rule. Just a few tossed in for “color.”
Then again, how about this back story: a specific Soviet unit . . . perhaps a breakthrough battalion ranging far ahead of one of the Red Army’s liberating drives (Bagration, June 1944 – that basically annihilated all of Army Group Center), happens across a German staging point during the full-scale German retreat into Poland. Maybe a “panzerjager” battalion of StGs had been gathered at a railhead for evacuation . . . just before the rail line was destroyed by Soviet “Sturmovik” ground attack planes. The Germans panicked and ran without destroying the stranded StGs, and now 30 StGs or so have fallen intact into Soviet hands. This battalion commandeered the StGs (all they needed was some fuel), and because they are a Guards unit that have performed well for the corps commander in the past, receive a special dispensation to operate the StGs at their discretion . . . Break out the buckets of red paint to slap on those hand-drawn red stars!

I’ve been collecting comics most of my life my batman collection is vast. I was going to pick up some batman figures at salute next month….. and maybe the rules!!!!

I like the Greys, specially the one you have on studio 😛 . No seriosly, the Watchers are not that whacky since aliens could appear at any point in presence of a different civilization, they even appear before but were defeated by the Holy Order ( that’s their name right ? ).
About 3d-Printers : They are amazing, period. But i’ll wait a few years and they will be very affordable, faster and even easier to use. That last one looks like a nice step toward all those features.
Lastly… one prediction that just happen this month… kickstarters are not doing that amazing as they did before. But Raging Heroes KS is doing amazing and i think it is because they already pumped their juicy $175 pledge with 20 free minis from the start, that $200 for free! Maybe they found the solution to avoid stagnation : Short KS, go crazy with a high lvl pledge and a ton of marketing before it starts…. it tooks them just 1 single hour to get above 25k!!! Just mad.

Working on my third gang which is Joker for the Batman game and hoping to lure one of my friends into the game. Going to be showing himthe game with the help of another friend on sunday 🙂
Have to agree with the comments on plastic versus resin for tanks.
Resin usually quicker to put together but plastic is far easier to convert, I hope Warlord continue with both options but I guess they will stay with the plastic once the resin are sold out as they are cheaper to produce (and transport probably).
I have the resin T34 and Tiger and both are great models.
warlord are really ramping up the plastice kits, hopefully they’ll get to do some italian stuff in plastic or even resin transports

I should have said this earlier . . . but the team did an awesome job on that “Red Orktober” submarine. All Warren’s added bitz and accessories really came together into a cohesive whole. Not TOO cohesive, we hope . . . this is still “ork tech” after all, right?

The lower the Z micron level the better print resolution, 12 is great 20 is good, bigger its bigger steps on the Z axis.
Oh you said 50 not 15, my bad, yes 50 is way too high, hopefully it will go down both in price and Z axis microns.

Ooh some one called it earlier Batman Bootcamp! I’d fly 10,500 miles for that because I can’t find anywhere that stocks it Aus and every time I see it on BoW it looks better and better I mean that image of Batman fighting a court of owls assassin is just amazing. I’m already hoping for a Starfire model so I can run a Redhood and the outlaws crew.

Red Orktober rocks! Just getting into BMG, so a rulebook would rock!
Watched a fan-run demo of the Batman game at Adepticon. I must admit it piqued my interest.
Sean and the gang at the Outlaw booth were super nice and some of the new models that haven’t appeared in the kickstarter yet were on display. Can’t wait for Sircan Nura for the Holy Order.
Oh, Lloyd, the Watchers have Mimiks which can copy powers from enemies and the Betas can absorb a power and then pass it on the leader Alpha. And if the stretch goal gets met, Outlaw will produce the Ladies of the West, one female for each faction, including a Mimik that have (partially) taken the form of a saloon girl.
Great Show as always. Looking forward to the next Themed Week. Been going through the back catalog of show. Now the guys at work and myself are looking at Dystopian Wars. Beasts of War is becoming expensive. 🙂
Any chance of a Batman Miniatures Game week?
I really, really don’t need another skirmish game but, damn, does this one look great.

I would really enjoy seeing a BMG demo game on Beasts. The rules that are available free online read kind of clunky. Would like to see if they play better than they read. The miniatures and setting though are incredible!
Bolt Action looks okay. Wished they’d do more with Battlegroup though.
I seem to have become hooked on sodapops chibi style games.

With DIY 3d printers around at 500€ I’m starting to feel an itch…
Might have to start looking at some of the free design programmes to see if I can work with them
Certain games you want for different reasons and have to say you guys for me so often hit the nail right on the head with just your insane energy. last year my tabletop spend would of been measured in tens of pounds where as since getting into BoW I’ve increased my spend into the hundreds already and could, possibly, hit a thousand plus by end of year.
i like to collect games which have multiply styles and themes and must say that skirmish games do help with collecting a broad range of games and I’m like many excited by the Batman Miniature game as its got the style and the atmosphere spot on.

I will not buying into Wild West Exodus as I can’t warrant another system at this stage… my gaming group are currently stalking me to complete the 5e DnD campaign so need to focus.
Been playing some Bloodborne so I’m going to make a Bloodborne themed Dark Nation force >: ) bring on the gore and horror!

Very tempted by Wild West Exodus. Skirmish level games are the way forward for me I think. And Of course, there is the Batman game, which looks ridiculously good. And Knight make the Marvel models too don’t they? Pure awesomeness.

I will send over some pics of next weeks 2 day game on a 21×6 foot table in a purpose built war room (sadly not mine). It will have at least 14000 15mm napoleonic figures.
The Batman game looks great, and the models are amazing. However, give me a Marvel version of the game and I’m be in heaven! Keep having to restrain myself from buying a load of the Knight Model Marvel models just for painting. Have Ironman and Magneto, looking at Thor next.

I’ve had my 3d printer for about two months now, and haven’t had a good print yet…it apparently requires a lot of tuning and tinkering to get it working right. I would say that makes it more prohibitive than the cost.
I totally agree that 3D printing is really attractvie for buildings at the moment. Not so much for minatures yet.
We’re having a new local library built at the moment which is due to open in a few months. Alongside the usual photocopying, printing, internet access and whatnot, they’ll also be offering 3D printing.
And that’s me watching the Batman Rilogy this weekend!

There’s a Fab-Lab about 2 miles from me that has not only a laser cutrter but also a £50K 3D printer available to use. I really MUST get my self motivated to actually get something printed!!

Wow dem Orky Sub! I hope we’ll get update pics as it gets painted! I don’t think model making companies need to run in fear from 3d printers any time soon. They’re expensive, and beyond just the cost of purchase and setup, there’s resin costs, and an insane amount of setup, cleanup, and operation ‘hazards’ that will make it I think more likely we’ll see model stores have one for printing before most people in-house have one.
Love all the art in the Batman rulebook. Excited to see more news about 3D printing in the future be sure to do updates!

With WWX and Deadzone I have stretched my budget as thin as can be. However, as a lifelong comic book collector and that limited edition Joker cover is from The Killing Joke, one of the greatest Joker tales ever. It would be fun just to collect the minis alone.
Love the website and the material. Beasts of War has been key in getting me back into gaming after a few years raising kids and tending to family.

Have to say Warren your reaction to the Ork submarine was priceless. On the topic of Batman I think I’ll have to check it out as it sounds like it would be really fun. I honestly hope they eventually add Jason Todd as Red Hood as a playable option he is honestly my favorite member of the Bat family.

I’m really interested in how the Batman mini game is. I think its kind of odd that DC would give the license to a much smaller, foreign country, but if they can do it and make a great game, then more power to them.
