Guild Ball Week: Proving Grounds – Engineers Vs Fishermen Grudge Match
April 27, 2017 by dignity
The Proving Grounds of Guild Ball play host to a Beasts of War grudge match between John's Engineers and Justin's Fishermen. Who's gonna get the win?!?.
Watch Guild Ball Week
As you have seen previously both players have been getting coaching to ensure they get the best out of these two teams who are more focused on goal scoring than other more bruising Guilds in the game.
To ensure both teams play fair, Jaime from Steamforged Games is on hand to oversee play and act as Referee if things get out of hand.
Prizes To Be Won
During this week you could win One of Three Copies of the Guild Ball Kick Off! Starter Set as seen in our Kick Off! Demo Game.
All you’re going to need to do is comment on the videos this week across Facebook, YouTube and Beasts Of War to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize.

i love these miniatures
Fantastic well painted models and a great match as well 🙂
I really do love these mini’s, would be really nice to see one or two going under Romain’s brush.
Even better this vid should take me to the start of the hobby night live. Very well timed BoW.
Nice play.
Before I watch this, I predict the engineers will outsmart the fishermen
the wifes gonna kill me when i order some of these
Brilliant range of minis, although I feel my wallet may resent them in the end!
what’s cool- nobody will know you have a new team becouse it’s just a few models in the cupboard and everybody knows there’s already a ton of them ;p
great game
Bang-Bang goals to end the game. Fantastic!
Good to see engineers being played
That was a genuinely good game of football. Both teams were initially pressing on opposing wings and an early goal. The game then was close, gritty play down the middle with neither side gaining an obvious advantage.
Then both teams adopted some route one tactics, resulting in the equaliser. It was getting closer but a brilliant lone effort by the fishers star player resulted in the clincher. The game was done, but both captains should be proud of the way their teams performed on the day.
I called it. Justin took the win. I think the Fish are a little more straight forward, which may be why John needed a little more coaching… good intro to both teams though.
I’ll watch this tonight (it’s 6:17 am Friday morning here) so keen for this
Great game guys – although you did make me put off packing my LARP gear to watch it..
BAD BoW Team – Shaaame! 😉
I have got to get into this game.
Guild Ball is such a fun
Two “scorey” teams = an excellent game.
This is great viewing, loving how you are giving us a feel for the individual faction playstyles
Will the engineers design a way out of the fishermen’s net
Awesome coverage BoW, game looks great!
Good game guys.
Great game! Thanks for All of the great sample games and the opportunity to see the various guilds in action.
Good game .
This was a fun game to watch. The otter does it again too!!
That was a very entertaining match.
Damn those fishermen are scary fast.
Great game.
Really enjoying this series, lots of passing and tackling made for an interesting game. Looking forward to the second, more beat oriented, game!
Awesome match!
Ah, missed this last night. Something to watch after work then 😉
Looking forward for this game, I think the Fishermen’s win
What a fun game. I’ve been telling myself I really don’t need any more games, but after watching this play through….off to look at the Kick off box
Really loves all the games you showed us this week, please do more of them in the future, and John vs Justin is jsut great … so again please more of this in the future 😉
It’s really nice to see the progression from demo game to an actual match. You should try to do this for more games.
Nice coverage. Got a feel of both guilds and the gameplay now.
Nice match!
I know it’s a demo game, but when Angel kicked into the field because she was like 1” short of being able to pass to Shark and then moved AFTER the kick I couldn’t continue watching. There were a lot of tacticle errors in that game, but that’s fine, because it’s a demo game. But stuff like that isn’t Guild Ball specific. Move into range before trying to shoot/kick is pretty basic for any tabletop game. 🙂
Wow, an interesting match my 2 favorite teams.Go Team John
Great game. Question… Are the pens being used to mark damage just dry erase? It doesn’t look like the cards are in sleeves, so do the cards come coated to support this?
Sorry Justin.. but @ 38 minutes if you still had your move with Angel to start turn 2 (you said “she’s just going to stand up and start taking swings” so I thought you were KD to start)… but you could have moved that 1/2″ towards Shark that you needed before Kicking the Ball (which ended up going to space)… but no reason you couldn’t have attacked twice, tackled the ball, put up super shot, and walked over to kick successfully (in theory) to Shark…
Very entertaining match… The Engineers do seem to have some neat tricks… the Fishermen are just so slippery and with Shark & Angel so easily able to score from 20″ away it seems like they are always a threat… Be interesting to see a more fighting oriented team (or two) pair off!
Fishermen are a strong team. Great game
Fun game, nice watch!
Great game!
This game had very little of the bashing that the previous games did. Really shows that the teams truly can and do play differently. Really liked the back and forth in this one.
Great game to watch. And this is what happens to me as well every time I face the fishermen with my Engineers. Somehow, I just can’t seem to win 🙂
You’re really getting me in the mood for my league day tomorrow
Great game, kept me engaged, each of those dice rolls felt like it meant something!
i put this game to my list
good game. fabulous endgame 🙂
Really enjoyed this lets play! How many teams are available for this?
Oh wow!
Another otter goal!
This will be the first guild ball mini I paint up!
Nice game! Seems like the fish would have to have things go stupidly wrong in order to not end up with two goals really quickly.
I loved that game! Was looking forward to the ‘grudge match’ and I was not disappointed! You two really do go all in when you play against each other. You can see it in your faces during your opponents turn! Is it hard not to shout obscenities at each other when on camera? I know if that was me versus my ‘grudge match’ equivalent I’d be chanting “F@#k it up, F@#k it up’ every time an important dice roll was due!
Upon reflection of my evening I have discovered the not surprising fact that watching Boxing might make a person violent! Not normally my thing but it was on round a mate’s house, anywho, my point being, during that guildball game, when that poor otter was ganged up upon by 2 Engineers, I couldn’t help myself from shouting “kick the furry F@#ker in it’s stupid otter face!’ Like I said, good game! Can you play a timed version? Kinda like in a movie when the lead character is in some form of mild peril, you know they’re gonna be alright? So there is no real suspense? When Angel got the ball after John’s goal, it was such a quick tap-tap-bosch, Goal! Thank you and Goodnight that seemed a little……meh? I guess you’d just rub your hands together and go ‘alright then….let’s do that again….but this time I’m gonna get that damned otter!’?
I should add that I am an animal lover (in the strictly plutonic sense!) and in no way endorse the kicking of otters or any living creature (maybe spiders if they look at you funny!) in the face or any other part of their anatomy.
Thank you and goodnight!
Guide game guys. Looks like a great system. Very tempted
Oh! well, my second favorite team won. Nice one Justin
Great Game really showed off the fluidity of the system, I am going to dig my Fishermen out of the lead pile as my next project
That was a wonderful passing game. It was sometimes hard to keep track of where the ball went. It does appear to me that an (un)lucky scatter can leave the best laid plans in ruin.
Good game, I knew Justin would win. Bad luck John.
Good game, really enjoyed it, good bit of tension at times as well
This guild suits my play style. Really like these guys.
This was a great game; really fun to watch.
go go fish!
Was a decent match.. I’m more of a smack people kinda player though
Great game and looking forward to seeing more.
Great game guy`s, like how you kept the game flowing………….Very well done.
So “Salt the Otter” strikes again, and managers to survive this game. Watching Justin and John play, was like watching the “Ebb and Flow” of the Tide. Each was keeping the pressure on, but as with all well fought game`s there has to be a winner and second place. Better luck next time John, and watch out for that pesky “Otter”.
Great match!
