Guild Ball Week: Proving Grounds – Hunters Vs Engineers Training Match
April 26, 2017 by dignity
As Guild Ball Week continues it is now John's turn for some coaching on the Proving Grounds courtesy of Jaime from Steamforged Games as the Engineer's Guild takes on the Hunters.
Watch Guild Ball Week
John takes the reigns of the steampunk-esque Engineer's Guild (naturally) who's reliable kicking skills he hopes will be used to great goal scoring effect. Can Jaime's Hunter's Guild denial tactics put a spanner in the works?
Prizes To Be Won
During this week you could win One of Three Copies of the Guild Ball Kick Off! Starter Set as seen in our Kick Off! Demo Game.
All you’re going to need to do is comment on the videos this week across Facebook, YouTube and Beasts Of War to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize.

This should be good viewing with dinner
I love the hunters guild color scheme, along with big animals.
Go for the bear.
Go engineers.
That was a really good game. These proving ground vids are really good for showing off the styles of the teams and the special rules for the players.
Definately seems like the engineers are the team for John, but I’m surprised he didn’t take colossus in his side. Seems like the best addition to the way the match played.
I’m now completely sold on getting the hunters. Looking at the cards I think I would take snow as the mascot, I love the model and it seems like it could be really useful on the table. Would like to see some of the union models cover at some point his week as well.
This is the real ‘beautiful’ game. Love the Guild Ball weekend.
can we make this a two week feature
I really like these proving ground videos. The faction chats are good, but seeing them in action gives you a much better feel for the teams overall.
Really Nice to see several games with each Guilds !
Enjoying it to see it while I’m painting. 😛
I’m sold on the Hunters, but mainly because of the new models coming out (Heralds of the Winter’s Moon). I’m guessing they weren’t announced at time of filming though?
Really enjoyable game, need to get my engineers on the table now, go Engineers John be great to see. Another great game chaps.
cool- two battles in one week (or 3 with the tutorial one)
Good game. I think John could have scored even earlier if he’d timed things a little differently, though. Also, his ‘coach’ was taking it a bit easy on him. My money would be on Justin at this point, but he might surprise me.
Interesting game – Loving the Hunters playstyle!!
Good looking game which i have seen bits of at last couple of salutes
The more i see of this game the more interested i get. Pretty sure i’ll be picking up the starter next payday.
I love this game.
So more like violent soccer?
Football mate. Soccer’s not a real word.
To be honest, the Engineers haven’t captured my interest until now. Having seen them play though, there’s a lot of interesting options there. Once again, I love these “still learning but not having to explain everything” games, lots of fun to watch!
I’d never have the patience to set it all up like that. I love the minis but maybe they’re not the faction for me.
Really good teaching game. Enjoyed it immensely.
Game looks good and I enjoyed the print and play, just not sure if I want to add another game to the stack. Maybe if we can find an eight day for the week I can be convinced.
can’t wait to see how the two guys go at it.
The proving ground series reminds me a bit of the karate kid. Training for the big match with coaches etc. Looks like a good game.
Really enjoy Guildball bat (game?) reps. I really should try it out.
GG!
I feel that I learned more about the basics of the game from watching this video than the previous Proving Ground video, though both are great.
Liking the play through videos. It’s helping get a basic understanding of how the game flows.
I love the Hunter guild.
Anyone knows if the new starters will be plastic ? I’ve seen that in 2 or 3 places, but nothing official.
From the official forums:
“The summary is that new teams from farmers onwards will be in plastic. The plastic models will be an improvement on Kick Off, and will be a mix of PVC and ABS plastic. The ABS plastic can be used on parts like bases and weapon shafts to avoid “bendy” weapons etc. Models will be pre-assembled and multi-part, with Rich saying the company would be happy to put the model in more pieces if that improves the sculpt.
Don’t expect existing metal teams to come out in plastic “in the next year or so”. There might still be occasional resin or metal “limited edition” collectable models in the future, though this also remains to be confirmed. But there won’t be a metal version of the core farmers team, for example. People who are worried about the weight of plastic minis, meanwhile, should be able to buy metal bases from a licensee to put their plastic figures on.”

Thanks.
That was a great game! Was really on edge of my seat towards the end! Great stuff! Can’t wait for the John vs Justin grudge match!
The second wind ability is killer for crossing the field quick to set up for a goal. Surprised John did not do it.
very interesting game between these two guilds. And tanks for another entertaining video 🙂
Nice to see a goal scoring strategy win out 🙂
Surprisingly enjoyable video. I never really grokked the playstyle of the hunters until now.
This looks like an interesting match up!
Love how much variety there is between the different factions. Great game to watch.
I’m liking these proving ground matches, really gives you a chance to see how each guild plays on the tabletop.
Enjoy these videos, nice to see how different teams from previous videos match up to each other in an actual Guild Ball match.
Cool show!
Well done John…. as I hsve said earlier I have never seen either faction play before but both are very appealing. Good luck in the grudge match
Definitely your faction John.
I like that even if you are behind, you can still win.
Great match to watch!… Engineers is one Guild I must pick up…
I like the paintings
i am loving that bear model!
I know it’s a demo game, but that trap placement hurt so bad…
Enjoyed the play. Two hard to choose sides. All guilds look great.

uh? wrong window. I ment i love these miniatures
Great match. Loving those speed goal shenanigans with the engineers.
Really like those 2 teams
need more time to watch these
Great to see you showcasing how most of the factions play.
I really need to find someone with a set and try this game out.
Team Antlers are go!
Awesome!
Seeing 2 of my Favorite guilds here
Should have called the Bear Wojtek after the ww2 free Polish forces Corporal and war hero. A brown bear
Really good to see some of those mechanics (not just the Engineers, =p, but the game mechanics) with the Snap Shots and Tackles… would have liked to see more Hunters’ shinanegans but in a learning game you don’t want to get too carried away… plus Seenah was trying to win the game by him/herself… lol…
This is why I love the engineers. Not too straightforward to play, but the best passing team in the game, for me.
Definitely, love the Engineers so Favourite Guild in looks and play. Wow, the difference in John’s and Justin’s play style. John plays it like Rugby, Justin like a mix of Hurling and Australian Rules mixed.
Strong team, love the bear. Would llike to field team.
That bear is a beast. Ba-dum-ch.
Stop showing me how fun the other factions are. I already can’t get enough games in with my butchers
nice game, i think i will wait until Blackfriday
Nice to see the hunters in action. Might be one of my factions in the future 🙂
That was a great game really enjoyed watching that. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen of GuildBall so far!
I really enjoyed this demonstration. Lots of interesting tactics going on. And the game can swing one way or the other so quickly.
Wow Engineers pulled it off, i honestly didn’t expect much from them but pleasantly surprised
The Hunter’s and Engineer’s are two nice factions, if i was to choose one of them it would have to be the Hunter`s. I like the look of them, how they play and best of all they have a “Bear” and a “Big Pussy Cat”.
I really thought the hunters had this one. Had it been to 12, do you think it would have been different?
My 2 favourite teams head to head
bear!
Need to pick up this game, looks great.
