Gargantuans Break Down: Trollbloods
March 26, 2013 by dignity
Justin is joined in the studio by Mike and Kev to get a first look at the new Hordes Gargantuans book, kicking off with the Trollbloods faction.
So what do you guys think? Have the Trollbloods kept pace with the rest of the factions, or do you think they need more big beasts?

No beasts are enough until the next bigger one! 😛
This is excellent entertainment while painting. Good job guys!
Looking good. Wish natural looking larger models were implanted into 40k
like the sound of all this but honestly don’t see how the mountain king is the worst gargantuan it’s sheer survivability has let it mulch every other gargantuan at my local club!
Well @nazghallion I to felt a lack luster with the new book release for the trollbloods as compared to my cryx for example or even my skorne…
Then I played a 50 pt. game against one of our local press gangers down at the LGS.
He had this ridiculous combo using the Mountain King Hoarluck doomshaper stone scribes w/ elder and runeshaper unit.
Anyway He ripped through my cryx list sporting Kraken and new asphyxious model along with pistol wraiths death jack and full unit of bane thralls…
I was rolling good but could not stop him from rolling me…
He confessed to it being a one trick pony list but never the less I will wait to complain about new Privateer Press releases until I play against the new stuff they produce.
I will be buying a mountain king now that I have felt its fury on the table I have the rest of that list already in paint.
New trolls seem to be rather good additions. As Legion player I kinda find that sightless eye guy that trolls get funny. From gargantuans Mountain King is my second favorite after Archangel.
Very interesting. Need to break out my Trolls and play.
Well I will post a mistake I made here. Warlock units CAN have a unit attachment. I misread sorry
Kev
was thinking of starting a troll force, something about all that beer.
Trolls look cool, but I already have a fledgeling Legion force as well as Skorne and some Minions to paint up for Hordes. Not to mention having Protectorate of Menoth, Cryx, some Cygnar and Mercenaries for Warmachine. Warlockunits sound cool.
Trolls are always an impressive army and look amazing fully painted on the table.
And don’t forget that if you purchase whelps, you actually make 2 every time he’s hit. With the troll buffs, I think the big guy is awesome. And what a gorgeous model. Hail to the King, baby!
I’m really hanging on getting my hands on the Mountain King kit, always love the Trollblood models!
Arrrgh! May now have to start Troll army to go with my Circle boys. Love that Mountain King.
Sweat! I gotta see more. As someone totally new to Hordes and Warmachine, my interest is drawn in on how the models interact to form challenging strategy and tactical variations. I want to learn more about the game and get advice about picking a faction, building a starter army based on solid game mechanics.
There is a starter game demo later in the week with battle box. So it is starter box vs starter box.
Oh Gargatuants and trpllayers… man what a story. Before the release of the book and some leaks out there most of the trollplayers were crying about the new releases. And if you compare the troll releases with the others, they feel a bit lackluster. But~ trollbloods still get awsome thinks. First of, of course, it’s Hunters Grim. Really good Warlock Unit, a lot of “inbuild” utility and buff. So most of the times you don’t need a unit of KrieslStoneBearers. His key is also Mortality. It’s not an upkeep, which is a really good thing! You can cast it up to 3 times in a turn (with trollmoses). And his feat looks at first lackluster, but you can really work it out. It’s a feat you use early in the game, to do some good damage. And with Muggs “Reform” he will allways stay out of battle.
The nighttroll is really good for boardcontroll and that for a very cheap price! I really like the Wardens. Champions are a bit too pricey. They are good, but now we got a cheaper hard-infantry. Casters like both Grissels or even Jarl can get a good use out of them. I don’t know what to think about the Sorcerer. Onepoint solo with a bit of utility, sounds ok, I guess. The Fennblade Kithkar on the other hand is definitly a good thing! 2 Points for a speedy Solo that can support our Fennblades and give his CMD-Stat to other things (like Burrowers). He doesn’t have Weaponmaster, but he really doesn’t need it. He is good as he is!
And now we come to our “problemchild”: the Mountain King. The mainproblem I find with his is his MAT of 5. You relly have to work to make him hit. So things like Runbearers, Warwagon or Slamming Impalers can really help him out. He isn’t that much “selfefficient” like the other Gargantuants or Colossals, but he can still bring the pain. His 10″ spray is very awesome and with welpshredding and snacking he can still stick around on the table. But I would put him against cryx, because most of his abilities (Killshot, Snacking) wont work against nonliving models.
In the end, like the video said, trollbloods get some solid units. And Hunters Grims has the potential to be the best trollbloods warlock.
On a personal note: Please check out the Mountain King that I uploaded on minirama. And please vote and leave a comment. Thank you ;D
trollbloods down up to the next faction
How can you not want to play Trollololol after this
This video is great. I am a new trollblood player and it really helps when people talk you through some of the interactions. Good job guys keep it up.
Oh and the hunters grim models are awesome. They are the reason i started trollbloods as a faction
Hmm, Indiana “Troll” Jones?
There is so much going on with gargantuans, maybe one of them deserves painting tutorial
Oh I see, I need to get into Hordes.. just awesome stuff!
It’s a shame such a cool model seems so unliked. I like that mountain king!
@warzan must be kicking himself missing out on all the “giving you something to worry about in your rear”
Have a friend who loves his trolls and the new additions.
Just starting to get into Warmahordes and bought the Protectorate Starter Box, but these trolls look cool. May have to check out the Hordes rulebook and the troll faction.
I have just recently got into Trollbloods you won’t be disappointed they are great models and loads of fun to play.
I’m not much a fan of the filthy trolls, but I think the faction came out better than many players realize.
Despite the whining about the mountain king early on he has proven to be in line with other factions’ gargantuans and has seen enough table time and success to prove he is viable in some builds. It also probably has to do with the first colossal changing the game profoundly while the first gargantuan had rather mild implications for even his own faction. Nothing should be compared to stormcrutch.
Likewise, Grim turned out to be a really good combined arms support caster. He has a kind of Kraye meets Jarl feel to him. Stacking even more buffs on top of what trolls already get is really hard to deal with sometimes.
The night troll is an okay enabler with stealth and paralysis. If he gets pathfinder he has a scary charge.
The warders might be a very strong jam unit against the right factions. Their reach helps them tie up more opposing models and they are robust enough to withstand common anti-infantry ranged attacks. With a little babysitting on turns one and two to make sure they don’t draw fire from big guns they might even be able to get a meaningful charge in. It remains to be seen if these tactics are viable on the table however.
The two solos are both very good. They would be grade A in most any faction.
This make me want to get my brother to the table with his Trolls. Exciting stuff.
That Fennblade kithkar sounds super cool…..
Our troll players are looking forward to this a lot.
Wow the King has left the building…
Almost makes me want to dabble in trollbloods.
i really need to get painting on my trolls.
The Trollblood models have more character in each sculpt than anything out there.
Really need to get these to add to my army.
Mixed feelings about the troll additions do like the idea of Grimm though
I wanna see how the new Grim unit will work on the table
hi where can I find the previous winners from all the other previous contest ?
Hmm. Now to see how I can fit some of these in with Gunnbjorn…
Next year at PP: “We are going to introduce new GIGAgargantuan models, for trollbloods: Godzilla.”
I’m glad that there are some cool stuff for trolkins. But its a pity that you haven’t show any graphic of the units besides of warlock and mountain king
Mountain king is reason I got into hordes – fantastic model , just a shame doesn’t compare to that hairless elephant !
I don’t know exactly why I can’t like the Iron Kingdoms trolls… maybe just flat ignorance, but aesthetically the huge chins and the lack of a nose that make them look like some sort of Battletoad kind of breaks it for me. But you can’t deny that they are tough buggers. Been reading the lore on Circle and amongst the Hordes factions it is the one I can relate more easily, as creepy “keepers of balance” druid guys.
I’m really hanging on getting my hands on the Mountain King kit, always love the Trollblood models!
Brother G
It’s a beautiful model.
Seriously thinking a troll blood army just for Hunters Grim, great video.
NIce video guy, Trololololbloods are my favorite faction!
I have literally just picked up my first Trollbloods this week (my first Warmachine/Hordes stuff, even). This makes makes me excited for my new army — I’m keen to see the new models.
There’s always a bigger beast.
Just purchased the new unit version of Grim Angus. I thought I would never use my bushwacker unit till I heard about the theme force.
impressive the mountain king !!
Hah these are really cool minis, but I prefer a more traditional fantasy to the whole steam punky thing going on with these.
loving the new troll stuff, they have the right amount of silliness and beat your face in
I really didn’t think that Grim Angus could get any cooler but, I was wrong.
troll’s ftw
I’ll have to get me a Mountain King, that thing is awesome.
cant wait for the circle review
