Kings of War Week: Forces Of The Abyss
November 1, 2013 by warzan
Now to uncover more about one of the final factions for Kings of War. We've saved probably the best for last as the guys get a look at the forces of evil in Mantica as they delve into the Abyss.
The Wicked Ones are stirring and preparing to wage a fresh campaign on the world. Will you be joining their ranks as one of their dark generals or combating them under the banner of good.

These Abyss guys are rather sweet.
Another interesting army list from Mantic. The more I see of Kings of war and the variety it allows the more I like it. Armies can be very easily personalsed and given their own back story.
This is my thought exactly – total freedom to build as you like to create themes and interesting stories!
speaking of carving out a piece of this world for myself, brings me to the question. Are there rules for creating your own race in the game? I would love to be able to once again use my Lizard-men. (GW prices have moved there games out of my reach.)
At the moment wolflord68 there are a number of fan lists floating about – I like this one: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?318570-Lizardman-list
The alternative is use their Nature list in the Basilean book it has elementals which could easily represent Kroxigor, skinks = gnomes, salamanders etc.
thanks minitrol. 🙂
For an official list, the Orc list makes a fairly good “counts-as”, especially if allied with goblins to count as skinks.
Lots of ideas in this video. I’m now very Happy to know that I can do a lot of combining of different armies. I have a few ideas for which I can use some Reaper demons for Abyssals. Gonna have a lot of fun with this.
Rise, my zombie giant…Rise! Mmmwahahahaaa!
Here’s some fitting music while playing the Forces Of The Abyss.

Abyssals are so alluring in that forbidden demonic way.
I think it’s awesome that Matic let’s you basically do what you want with there army’s, instead of trying to make you buy all of their models
I think James broke Warren’s brain with the steampunk idea! The more I watch the more i want to make an army!
Thanks for another great themed week
like the fact that the abyss was caused by a fallen god axe cleaving the earth in twain
Everything but nice talking, why don’t you give us a Little sneak peak of the illustrations.
I’m whiting for the next video and pleas show some abyssal minions.
the Abyssals are a brand new list so there’s no models out yet… I’m thinking of making an army using the old Confrontation Scorpion plastic prepaints…
its been a great week guys, and still at least a couple more vids to come
I love the flexibility this system an more an more i want to make this my fantasy war game.
Looking forward to seeing the models for these. Want to see what aesthetic they go for.
Can’t go wrong with a bit of evil.
Or a little bit more evil 😉
I’d love to ally these guys with Undead or Abyssal Dwarves!
A worthy foe for my future army!
That’s been a good week
As long as it was clear a distinctive paint scheme on undead models could easily represent the Abyss.
Awesome, another example of cool design.
I really want to see the abyss models when they are made. It there an ETA for them?
Sign me up! So awesome!
Man, I am doing that hand thing that Warren does when he gets excited. 😛
Hmmm – the jury’s out on this one until I’ve seen the book and the models…
Looks Good.
Comeooooon, give me that second KoW kickstarter to fund these all =D
demons
This one is hard to imagine. The only mini I can think of is the Balrog of Morgoth. I draw a blank for everything else.
Warren really gets the imagination going doesn’t he?
Steampunk controlled abyssal units. KoW is so encompassing. Its friendly to both new gamers (who can just pick up the units) and to hardcore hobbiest (who can literally create stories and subfactions with conversions and paint skemes). I am rather starstruck by it. Just wow.
Nice to see so much flexibility encouraged,
ive been waiting a long time for a pure evil army, I especially like the dantes inferno vibe to the levels of hell
sorry if i have already commented
Thanks for KoW week! Sounds like Ronnie has three styles of KoM armies to sculpt…. 😉
Why so hot in the studio?
Never been sold on Demon armies before; but the idea of adding in some as allies to a force like Abyssal Dwarves is really tempting me
What a great set of videos, really feel like I have the sense of the armies and how they might be themed. Wonder if BoW have any plans to do similar for army lists in other gaming systems…
Gruddammit Warren!!! Now I need to plan out the Hidden Nation of Kaotica – a Dark place of Oppressed Humans and Utility Undead!!
Also – Going to be working on a Mantica-Quest Idea 🙂
Clearly Kingdoms of men + Forces of the Abyss = Hordes of Chaos
In a way I’m glad these are one of the later armies to be released. Mantic’s sculpts are coming on in leaps and bounds. With a nod to the Slayer vid posted earlier, let’s have them looking really \m/ METAL! \m/
Real shame there weren’t many models to show off. This faction interests me for tits potential for unique colorful shinies.
Sounds like another allied force in the making!
Yet another good faction in what may be the best wargame out.
it was a great week of videos
for the abyss….i deliver my soul…………………
The ultimate allies modelling opportunity. Pick a monster that fits your force (as long as it’s neutral or evil) and just go wild…
wish they had the models, im sure they would look awesome
Just saw the forces of the Abyss vid, and I just got the crazy notion of doing an Oni army of ogres and forces of the Abyss. Or maybe a a force of true half Abyssals (converted Ogres), being led by, or leading, their demonic pure-blood kin.
The variety and ease of play makes this a great alternative to THE OTHER ONE.
Great set of videos, I’m really enamoured with the idea of ‘forces of the abyss’. Lovely stuff!
Awesome!
Pure evil.
Are they really not going to bring out models for these I was destructed with watching the vid.
They will they just released the army list so models will be coming soon… I think I heard a rumor they’re sculpting the basic troop in studio right now
loving the flexibility of this game, no map restriction, allies is awesome, the other ranges is unique really wanna grab this game
‘Forces of the Abyss’ continues Mantic’s ethos of flexible modelling complimenting flexible rule sets – which is refreshing when compared to some company policies on the matter. I love kit bashing and scratch building and creating something unique and Mantic have provided a welcome platform to do just that. Can’t wait to see what figures are in the pipeline but in the meantime I’ll be going through my bits box.
i always “game one the gaps” if a game system doesn’t let me do that i don’t play it, but mantic is really making me want to collect there products and make my own minis to play on there systems, i hope you guys stay the same
Of all the armies that have not yet seen much by way of models… the Abyss is the one that I look forward to.
The Gargoyles, shared with the Twilight Kin, are nice, but I really want to see MORE!
The Auld Grump
Abysal seems like a fun way to play with demons and “chaotic” themes.
who doesn’t like demons in there army 🙂
It says a lot that even thought the Abyss faction is by far my least favourite of the KoW factions, I would still look forward to playing with them.
Intriguing allies… but then I would need to get an evil army also…
Let’s look at the abyssal dwarfs again.
Oh boy! Here I go again…
Fernando
I’ll be interested to see what the models look like…
Love these guys. Couldn’t wait for this discussion, though I was really hoping to see some evil looking models.
Abyssal!
Dinosaur army …. interesting
A little more evil ! ROAR !
Cthulhu always wins in the end…….
genuinely loved this week guys contacted the local mantic pathfinder and eyeing up the various deals on ogres (honestly adore these although the undead have me really keen too! not too mention a few sneaky twilight kin dashing about…) Warrens enthusiasm for gaming in the gaps has put several interesting ideas out there and little twists to the fluff James told us… I’m speechless this has been my favourite Beasts of war week yet!
Cool stuff
Sounds like a use for my Red Redemptionists…
Steampunk awesomeness!
Enjoyed the video. Still in the process of painting up my Ogres for my first game.
Was never sure about KOW before, but having now watched these vids, you’ve got me! i’ll play my first game on Saturday. Abyssal Dwarfs sound like a good place to start! 🙂
posting 4tw
After each video i’m more and more confused as to what army i’d choose.
