Next up for our Faction Guides for Wild West Exodus 2nd Edition Week we're looking at The Watchers in this steampunk skirmish game from Warcradle Studios.

I have to admit i’m not overly keen on these guys I love the whole weird wild west theme and these guys take me out of that a bit

I must admit that when I first saw these models I had the same reaction as Lloyd – I figured these would be cool if I ever wanted to do X-Com on the tabletop. Of course, since then I’ve picked up the WWX rulebook and read up on the faction as a whole, and now I could totally see me using them in the game for which they were intended!
I’m really liking the idea of the Watchers, and the models are so useful in other games as well.
Now then, watchers…. Im absolutely in love with these guys. The fact the mimics allow me to take other models is an absolutely awesome idea!
I love the look of all their troops too, theyre exactly what I would think of a group of aliens coming down to earth to ‘fix’ things. The greys are a massive seller for me, ‘proper’ traditional looking aliens. I cant see a reason why I wouldnt go for this faction at the moment, theyre almost space police making sure no one breaks the prime directive! Definitely one for me!
Quite nice looking but I doubt this’d be the faction for me.
Now I want to get these guys. Sneaky Mimics pretending to be some rough and tumble outlaws, then suddenly a giant beast from between worlds rips the enemy heads off. Yes please!

Least favorite faction in the 2nd KS…but the theme is growing on me….
Definitely my faction of choice! The Umber Scarabs especially are interesting models, and the lore of the Watchers is so rich – really looking forward to getting my hands on these minis! Also, are there plans to still release the rumored crystalline indigos?
I have to agree with Loyd that the Grey are intersting models.
However I’m not certain, if aliens feel right in this setting.
Then again I don’t know a lot about WW Exouds as if yet.
These guys are interesting. Goodguys that play with DNA. What could go wrong?
I’m definitely in the camp that whilst the minis look pretty damn awesome, the other factions just look even better. Loving the look of the Lawmen and the Enlightened. Looking forward to the rest of the week.

I was really wanting these on the KS. I just couldn’t afford it at the time. I should have went with these instead.
Probably won’t be my faction but I like the overall concept of the Watchers and why they are getting involved in this setting. I think the clades are a little too diverse for my tastes perhaps but that might change when I see them in action. I think having the greys cropping up is cool!
I always thought the inclusion of this faction in v1 was odd, but v2 lore rework seems to have created a better backstory for inclusion. I also like the combination of new aliens and the classic Grey.
Video really brought me round to the Watchers way of thinking.

Great looking Greys.
I love how the gray-skinned aliens named their different clades after highly saturated colors, like magenta, viridian, and cerulean. It’s a bit like a housing development cutting down all of the maples, oaks and elms in the area and then naming the streets Maple St, Oak St, and Elm St. 😛
Before I had felt like the Watchers were a plonked on faction that did not “go” with the steampunk west theme. Thank you for bringing them out early and explaining their place in the game-world’s history. It feels like their involvement makes more sense now.
I’m not sure that I’d pick them as my faction though. Perhaps I’ll reserve judgement on that until after I watch the play-through with the Warrior Nation.
The watchers look interesting too, but i would looks though the other faction.
The watcher’s fluff sounds pretty cool. Great looking models too. Not convinced it’s the faction for me though, we’ll have to see.

I originally picked this faction from the KS because they were the anti-Order faction. Now they’ve become the “good” guys, what does that make the Order then? It’s nice to see that you’ve expanded the various roles for the units of Watchers and included the “use” of Outlaws via the Mimics.

I could see some of these sculpts making it into other games or some sci-fi rpg settings.
Ok I didn’t know much about WWX but I wasn’t expecting Greys . . .
The sculpts for these really caught my eye and it sounds like they’ve put a bunch of work into rationalizing their involvement on earth. It does make me curious though, if they catch other species early before they’re a threat what is it out there that has them so militarized…
Also they need a starter 🙂
I do not know too much about this game except from BoW but it is growing on me. I think I like the cowboys versus aliens thing that is here.
I was already playing The Watchers after the last kickstarter, this just seals them in as the faction for me! 🙂
So, I am unclear how they get involved? Do they fight to force an outcome?
My lord I love the look of the models in this faction, even from just a painting direction these are amazing, I think the Warrior Nation are still my favourite thoiugh

I’m a big fan of the greys. They can be used equally well in WWX and X-COM!
Really liking the fluff
Ok, at first I thought aliens would be weird (or alien even boom boom) in this setting, but damm they look awesome!
Weren’t they bad guys in the first edition fluff? For some reason I thought they were agent of the insane guardian spirit who wanted to wipe out the other worlds. I kind of liked them just being evil aliens. Love the models though.
Gribbly Aliens running around anywhere is not a good thing. Sound like a bunch of sneaky bastards to me.

so I am not the only one thinking of the movie Aliens vs Cowboys with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig.
The mini’s are all great looking sculpts, the fluff is excellent ( love the whole ” your species can now join us, we will make you even better ” ) ethos that they have 😀 . And who wouldn’t want some Greys in an army, nothing says ” Alien ” more than the little grey dudes 🙂 .
I played this faction in v1 as it was a great contrasting faction. My only issue was the availability of the models.
Im loving the new artwork but wonder when these will get to production with so many promised new units will my beloved galatic peacekeepers be the poor relations?
That Magenta Alpha really puts me in mind of the 90s movie “Species”, an old guilty-pleasure of mine. I picked up this faction during the second KS, sadly the Magenta hadn’t been made yet. Need to pick me up one of “her” 😀
Oh aliens!!! I need these…they would be so much fun to paint. And sounds like they’re a great faction to play with too. I might have found my faction.
While these don’t immediately fit into the weird west setting I found the explanation and background about the aliens from the Warcradle gents got me intrigued about the Watchers. I am a big SciFi fan so it is quite cool to having your cowboys fight aliens so I can see me getting g some of these in the future.
I didn’t expect to like this faction….. but damn you’ve done it … okay alians in the wild west. i am buying into it. Will this faction get a starter eventually ???

i like the watcher as a faction. I like the XCOM feel they bring to the tabletop and they also seem easy to paint

Well I like the idea of gribbly aliens with bullets in their heads. If I play them I might have to play as the Grey Liberation Front! Freeing Greys from the Oppressors!
The Magenta Alpha looks absolutely incredible

The expansion of the Watchers looks quite cool. Very interesting how you can tailor your force to certain play styles. Having a Viridian elite force supported by some Greys sounds awesome.
Always thought the watchers were a strange faction although much prefer the second edition take on them compared to first.
Still great models though and the mimics are really interesting and love that they allow you to take units from other semis that you have always wanted! Can’t believe I just agreed with Justin! That’s got to be a first!
I do like the idea of aliens running about. They seem to have a very interesting choice of troops and characters.

I was a little unsure about aliens being present in the game but after hearing the backstory I totally buy into it. I’m really liking the variety of races within the faction, this could now be my number two faction. 🙂
Nice models, but somehow this faction doesn’t grab me.
I imagine most if not all of this could be worked into a XCOM Aliens force. Against some of those spec ops from spectreminiatures. Why hasn’t anyone picked up the XCOM license. Especially with war of the chosen adding a lot more faction wise.

WWX week is good
I thought Aliens in the wild west would be going too far off the rails. But the lore and diversity in the factions is really good and makes sense for the setting so much that it isn’t off the rails at all!
Also, those minis look stunning. And the paint jobs, whoever painted them should be extremely proud they look astonishing and minis showcased to that quality really help to get that inspiration and entheusiasm across!
Didn’t think I would like this faction as without any knowledge I couldn’t see how they fit. But darn it, these are cool and totally fit.

I love this faction!….Greys from Outer Space…and something that looks like a ripoff of a Necron Lord…and a large bugger that is a mix of a Tyranid and a Dark Overlord from Howard the Duck 1982-year movie!!!
