Dark Age Week: Faction Spotlight – The Forsaken
May 2, 2016 by dignity
It's time to delve deeper into the world of Dark Age and look at the first of the factions for this week, The Forsaken.
These warriors are going to try and bring religion to the world of Samaria or die trying!
Follow Dark Age Week
I think it would be hard to not follow these fanatics into battle!
Are these your choice of faction?

Been following Dark Age since the beginning.. Great minis.
Forsaken sculptures minis is improving. a good faction to have for the straight up melee
Sooooo… The Forsaken are a Church of Politicians who are twisting the truth to suit their needs – Are you sure this is Science Fiction? :p
Isaac, Saint of robots and killy death? Sign me up!!
Wow, that’s a lot of saints. I think St Joan was my favourite.
I may need to get some of the saint models just to paint up as they look amazing. I need to look into this more as that malfunction mechanic sounds fun (and fluffy)
Those saint minis look sweet.
Definitely liking the look of these, probably either Saint Luke or Saint Joan for me, not sure which however.
Love the cynical/pragmatic take on the usual religious zealot faction!
But I have to say, I’m really waiting for the Outcast and CORE videos… 🙂
A faction that uses religion to brainwash the masses. Oh wait they have big warmachines that look like angels you don’t really need brainwashing when you have science to back it up.
Great looking faction, I love the look of the saints, particularly the mounted models. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the factions 🙂
The game is interesting, just not sure on its accessibility here in the UK.
Is that in terms of playerbase, availability to buy, or both?
Hi Lug45,
Our distributor in the UK, EBS Hobbies, has a list of current stockists in the UK. Additionally, if you and your mates are interested in your local store stocking it, you can contact EBS Hobbies and they’ll get in touch with your store : )

Saint marry for the win . looking cool
I like each saint has a very different look and feel to them. The artwork alone is making me want to get started ☺️
I like each saint has a very different look and feel to them. The artwork alone is making me want to get started
Since they resculpted a large part of the faction, the Forsaken look completely stunning. Definitely one of the faction that interest me the most visually speaking.
Exploding angel suits…
😀
Like the sound of parts of these but not others… What else you got? 😉
Interesting faction. Not sure if it is the one I want to go for yet. We’ll see after I learn a bit more about the other factions.
love it! finally some attention this great game deserves
As someone who plays Cryx for Warmachine, I do like the sound of St. Luke’s followers as something entirely different. The idea of a really surgical, elite army will make a great contrast in playstyles. Can you fit one of the Archangels into a list led by him?
As an aside, the Archangels remind me of the Archons in XCOM2, which makes me like them even more.
Hi Bearerofwords
St. Luke is from one sub-faction and the Archangels are from another (the Prevailer Council) so unfortunately they cannot be taken in the same list – unless you and your friends want to mess around with the standard approach to list building. They can both, however, access the unaligned Forsaken troops (Coils, Banes, Strikes, Firestorms etc).
I want to see skald resculpt … with the same standard of the forsaken
I like these, especially the mounts.
never played but looks interesting
I love the look of all the minis, especially Orchid and Nathaniel.
This faction sounds and looks really fun
I am liking the look of these minis. I am kind of surprised that I have not noticed anyone making a “Dominion” reference yet.
more models please
would love to crack out the paints on those mounted saints
Sooo many sweet miniatures, the Archangels just look like they’d kick arse before breakfast. @dignity I have a question for the guys: can these sub-factions join forces? Could I have a couple of Saint vs a couple of outcast?
It a hard choice to choose just one faction to like
I’m waiting for the Skarrd and the Brood 🙂
I love the saint Isaac mini! The dragon mounts are really sweet as well! The painting style suits the minis really well, but I’m not sure who my painting will look on the models..
sounds interesting but this is really the 1st time I’ve heard anything about this game so I think i’ll wait & see what the other factions are like before I nail my colours to the mast
Forsaken is by far the coolest! Very different look from anything else out there too…
These prizes are Crazy!
Not my style. Next contestant please!
I love the use of saint and angels but I am not sure the arrogance of the Forsaken is for me … Looking forward to seeing what the other factions offer.
Awesome game, I would love to try it out.
Wow those big beast are really nice but cost a lots of point in a battle but still my favorite faction in all of them i have to get at least 2 factions to get the guy’s at our wargaming club to get in to this game , after getting my 2 factions of Dark ages i will make some demo to get more and more of the guy’ in to it for sure , and also sure that game play will bring at least half of them in to it …….now i have to go on the Meeplemart web store to see if they have receive the new stuff , i know they were about to get it
Like that Angel suit.
I wanna see the mounts as minis!
All the mounted saints look awesome I think the forsaken maybe the faction for me
These guys look like my kind of faction! I always play the paladin’s first.
Nice info on the Forsaken though I think I would prefer the outcasts
This would be my faction. Thank you very much.
Saint Luke and his Bull is the coolest Mount, weapons mounted on bull plus a huge powered armoured menace riding it makes for a terrifying appearance.
Comment for the win
Another demo week! and it being Monday, Go Leicester!
Can’t wait to hear about the other factions.
Nice models. Are they metal?
Saints John and Luke look badass!
do we know who in the uk has the biggest range looked around some shops have the odd book or starter set
Probably Element, Wayland, Twisted Pinnacle or Empire.
You should be able to ask for an expanded range as many will order to request
Dark age is looking good!
Great minis and a fun faction to play by the look of it. Can’t wait to see more 🙂
Religious backed factions always seem quite edgy and real background to inspire units and characters.
I love the art of this game.
Saint Luke all day. He is my favorite.
deep in the vaults of the dystopia space Vatican they use the power OF SCIENCE! to make cyborg horses for their saints to ride.
So, thus far, the Forsaken would be the faction that I’d pick to play (if I can get my friends interested in the game). But one thing that you failed to mention in this faction overview: why are they called Forsaken? That sounds like they were abandoned somewhere and they should all be corrupted and using rocks and sticks. Plus, show us some main line troops/grunts. The saints look great but I want to see the units I’d be painting the most of.
They were abandoned by the corporate conglomerates who fled the system. As everything decayed (society et. al) they viewed themselves as having been forsaken by the systems that brought them there.
Aztec/Mayan aliens sound good to me
Saints and mounts look great, would love to see the more basic units
Have to say this is NOT my faction! i’m not fond of zealots., But men…… those mounts are stunning!
I’m waiting to see if ther’s a beastie faction!^^
I think what I love most about Dark Age is how unique and well thought out the setting is. Aliens plus post-apocalyptic themes? Space-Mayans!? Dark Age has it. Can’t wait for the rest of the week, great job guys!!!
sounds fun but visually not really for me
I swear no war game is complete without psychotic religious zealots.
I always seem to end up being the religious nutter faction. I try not to and end up there anyway. Can this be history repeating itself?
“Giant nailgun”. Here we go again
Saint Mary with Giant Nail Gun……… Im sold ha ha. The Arch angel minis look brilliant as well.
Pls do so coverage on CORE and kulkani. Its great to so this awesome game getting some worthy attention!
I like the idea of nomads in dark age.
We’re the love for my boy Mark…..
Been a fan since there first days of dark age. As I’ve gone OCD about my mini collection being in scale with each other the majority of the range is out of the question but might get some non human minis.
While these are cool, I don’t usually go for the religious fanatics.
Ok. I think my wife would love that unicorn. Maybe enough she’ll play…..
I’m happy to see that the moral effects of an archangel falling have been considered to the level they have been. Normally, I’d imagine such an epic hero falling in battle as having a devestating effect on the moral of the populace, so it’s good to see that cover stories have been thought through to make the setting more believable 🙂
Love the power-suits/armour and the fact that each sub-faction looks to play differently. My question would be the followers for each “saint” and whether there are select followers or are they all-inclusive?
I hadn’t seen those mounted minis before…. Very awesome…. Can’t wait to see the other faction videos.
resculpts look so good for these guys compared to the older stuff! last months releases are dope a.f.
Saint Johann sounds so amazing. Heretic saint? Yes please! Any character that has the possibility of some internal turmoil is for me. I hope his backstory has the “should I really be doing this? The ends justify it! Add on that pair of knives to my back.”
These guys look so wicked
St Luke all the way. I was tempted to start a forsaken faction based around him but with no one to play against didn’t get around to it. If Dark Age starts to get a bit more love I could easily be tempted.
@trapthem I couldn’t agree more. The previous forsaken minis put me off but the new stuff is pretty sweet.
@paragon St Johann gets all the cool skarrd stuff too.
Looks cool, have to see the rest….
This was the one faction I wasn’t interested in but man, those new sculpts are pretty sweet. A prevailer force doesn’t sound half bad.
This faction (or set of subfactions) still doesn’t grab me but they sure make a lot more sense to me now then from just reading the fiction in the books. Awesome. Really looking forward to the other faction coverage!
Always love religious factions. I like the look of the archangels.
With this kind of power, in one’s hand battles will come fast and trouble will follow swiftly.
The background is what makes a game easier to play, a game you can make your own.
Well i found my patron saint in this faction, if only because I like tech a lot, Saint Issac For the Win!
The Forsaken faction looks amazing.
Looks like my Forsaken army is going to get a lot bigger!
Oho you forgot the nicest mount….Saint Luke, Bastion of Faith on his taurus… but I don’t complain … its way to awesome to see you covering one of my favorite games.
I definitely like the look of the Forsaken but am interested in seeing the other factions. With those great looking mounts I may already be biased towards the Forsaken.
Even in the Forsaken there seems to be enough subfractions/playstyles for a normal game
It looks like more twisted versions of saints, but that dragon. I MUST have it. It soubds crazy but i like it more for Age Of Sigmar
I think after the end of this week, we all will feel the power of awesomeness from the waves generated by jammy dancing! 🙂
Wow like the backstory of the Forsaken and love the look of the Forsaken hero at the front of the video. I also like the rule about forgotten technology and the double edged sword it can be in battle when it fails.
Loving St Mark and his dragon, but 5hink the faction for me will be Brood (but also tempted by Skaard and Outcasts.
Love Saint Johann, like a Dark Age Doctor Octopus on crack!!!
The Forsaken look great specially the mounted saints and the archangels
Look nice but waiting for the dragyri faction
Always grateful for faction background vids, especially for a potential new game!
The mounted guys look amazing. I remember the whole team drooling over these miniatures on a weekender long ago and seeing them again I remember why. Would adore painting some of these guys and girls in this Faction. Easy to get a handle on this faction now. Clinging to power and their tech advantages, the Forsaken has corrupted religion over time to maintain order. Religion and grandiose military hardware are used as an excuse and propaganda tool for their expansionism and plans to eradicate any threats to their Port city home. Great story thread to play with.
Do I need another system to get into? Turns out…yes!
uuu I dont like old sculpts, how old is that game?
Love the Archangel model these guys could be my first faction in Dark Age.
St. Johan sounds amazing… Love the idea of a heretical saint in a “holy” order
It’s my favorite faction in this universe. I remember buying Dark Age card game boosters in my teen. The store didn’t have starters, just boosters, but I got them for the art and the fluff. Most of my favorite images from Brom became part of the Farsaken model range, especially Saint Mark.
Religious zealots are my faction of choice, no matter the game.
Love new Forsaken miniatures, studio painters did a really great job there too!
With just the Forsaken…I think you sold me already. Can’t wait what they would think of if St. Isaac getting a mount. Each of them have so much character in them!
Gotta be honest that St. John is a bit uninspired with the whole Techno-Paladin vibe, but perhaps his play style might make me change my mind. Awesome content as always.
Some really nice stuff coming out, I may have to buy some new figures to supplment what I already have.
Hail St Joan!
Forsaken! Very interesting!
Not really my thing – though the ‘Nun’ with the sword shown might change that.
Great minis, not the faction for me though.
Looking forward to finding out more about Dark Age. The thing that’s been putting me off has been lack of knowledge about game and getting hold of the minis. Hopefully as the range is re-sculpted will be easier.
I think I know from the the first vid which faction will be for me. It isn’t this one but the random nature of some of their weapons sounds fun to me.
Art work and some of the figures really nice especially the mounted figures. Don’t know if this is the faction for me though.
……Hoooolllyyyyy Mounts!!!!!!!……Awesome!!!!
Welp, you had me at flaming sword. All the yes.
Models look good, also Ice siders?
Saint Mary can pick me up anytime on the steel unicorn! Very cool model, I want to paint it!
Nobody does orange! Glad someone is doing orange!
The power through ignorance motif is interesting. Kind of like what happens in 40k but it’d be interesting to see this, you know, change and morph into something new as time goes on and they find they need to evolve to face new threats.
The new art style and better sculpts are really nice. Would like to have more ranged unit options so I am going to hold off until more factions get redone in such wonderful ways.
These guys look amazing but not my first choice, think I would enjoy painting some of them but not enough to collect an army of them. But I do really like the re-sculpts especially the Warwinds
I really like the flavor of this faction. I love that the hypocrisy of grafting is covered up with the good ol’ “Miracle”
“Church of Politicians”, nutters religious nutters the lot of them…………….lol
Nice back ground and lovely mini`s, but not the faction for me.
How long has Dark Age been out? I can’t believe I missed it till now.
Wow – seriously? It existed definitely around the 2000s (played a demo game in ’01 or ’02, I guess). But that was before CMON (and I didn’t fancy the miniatures so much). The or some older looking miniatures stem from that edition.
The Forsaken have this certain flavour mix about them of a power deeply rooted in tradition and angry rebellious fetishists brandishing advanced technology they don’t really understand.
Also, they resemble the good guys, but – oh – no, they aren’t at all. Some of them might be, though. A bit. I like those flaws.
While the Dragyri, Brood, Skarrd, and Forsaken seem to form the four-headed backbone of this world, for me the latter really provide the background for the whole setting.
I like some of the models for the faction. They are not quite floating my boat but aome of the models are giving me a strong Confrontation Dirz vibe.
Nice stuff.
CMON FTW!!!
The faction looks great as a whole but the quality of the sculpts unfortunately varies a great deal.
The Forsaken are amazing and I love all these new sculpts! 😀
I like the analogy to the real dark age, a well evolved society broke down and most of their culture, technology, etc. is lost and forgotten. A new culture emerges from it and to control the masses they use religion. Also the use of religion to justify their doings and condemning others. That combined with a scifi end time theme makes up for a brilliant setting.
Dark Age is awesome!
Wow these are great! They’re all so different and I love some of these weapons. They’ve really gone all out with the futuristic feel.
Those mounts would be fun as heck to paint
Yay! Dark Age!
Holy crap – those Archangels! Does “holy crap” work as a Forsaken curse?
You might have had me at techno paladin though
I do get an Imperium vibe from this, but with more detailed, grungy units.
This is lovely!
Shameless contest post.
Angels go boom !
Weekends on hold to catch up watching all these lol
I have faith that Dark Age might just claim a few of my gaming dollars.
I like to look of the more recent stuff.
Dark Age is so cool!
Dark Age looks fun!
This was interesting!
Im digging the lore for the the faction but probably not for me.
Wow! This looks fantastic!
To quote Peter Quill, “There’s a little pee coming out of me right now.”
It looks interesting!
They remind me of the church from the Fading Suns RPG and Too Human video game. I like it!
Dark Age Week was cool!
Wow, awesome!
Dark Age rox!
I have St. Mark on the dragon mount, beautiful but badly broken after shipping from the states…
This was excellent!
I’m absolutely amazed by Dark Age!
