This time we're playing a Frostgrave 2nd Edition Versus Battle Report where Justin's Wizard and friends face off against Gerry's Discworld-inspired warband as they race to the top of The Silent Tower.
Frostgrave Books - Frostgrave Miniatures - Frostgrave Terrain
Will Ridcully The Brown take home the gold or will Justin's assassin in the guise of his Apprentice have something to say about it? Even the very terrain of Frostgrave can be an enemy to the unwary!

What would you have done differently if you were playing this game?

Merry Christmas ! Definitely building a Frostgrave specific board after seeing this
“Oak and Iron – Tabletop Simulator”? Fire that editor! I don’t care that its christmas day!
Looks like a great game.
I just looked on the OnTableTop store but Frostgrave is not in it.
Well have to look on Waylandgames then.
Definitely want to try and get my friends into the game. I want to play as a necromancer so badly!
Top let’s play guys ?
When/where is the mob meeting to lynch Justin for not liking Discworld? And do we bring our own flaming torches and pitchforks, or will those be provided for us?
?
Not liking Discworld I assume he has already been arrested and is in jail.
Or nailed to the the town hall by his figgin.
and will there be meat(?) pies for sale?
you know it and so cheap I’d be practically cutting someone else’s throat
I hear catering will be provided by CMOT Dibbler.
Justin is not into Discworld, but Gerry doesn’t know what Pern is (I assume he doesn’t like dragons)…
OK, not being a Pretchett fan is definitely worse. 😉
Amazing game, thanks for covering!
Love the acting of the spells cast ?
There is more snow on this screen then on my yard…. I WANT SNOW FLOCK-DAMN-IT!
Happy Holidays everyone.
I noticed that you always used group activation with the wizards/apprentices. That is not necessary, you know that, right? You can activate the soldiers normally. It’s just that usualy a group activation is less useful then single activation, unless say you want to gang up on a targt in melee or things run through a door and close it behind you.
Merry Christmas, awesome game of Frostgrave.
Jerry should change his Wizards’s name to blowhard!!
I just can’t get past how incredibly pretty the terrain is, and I definitely need some of it in my life (just need to find somewhere to store it, first)
Yeah I need to get onto making my Frostgrave board, this looks awesome
Does the null zone around the towers not negate the elemental wind negative modifiers?
no it’s a storm across the tabletop making archer impossible. So it’s more that the wind is summoned and the weather pattern is changed in the area rather than a magical effect
Great flavour in this game, I love it.
Mage Wars christmas day special.
Fun scenario, guys. The terrain collection really is versatile and looks great.
Sorry, Justin, but Gerry is completely right here and I will always root for the Unseen University Alumni. I have to admit, Dragon Riders of Pern was entertaining and I find Macaffry tells a nice story overall but Sir Terry Pratchett, on the other hand, was a genius whose writing is entertaining, thought provoking, and moving. Good Omens remains one of my favorite novels of all time but it is the Discworld novels that best display his considerable craft and a wit as sharp as Death’s scythe. Even the least among them are good stories and his characters, for living in such a fantastical world, are very real, believable individuals. Reaperman is an amazing book and Hogfather has long been a holiday favorite of mine.
Happy Hogswatch one and all!
and always remember…
The Turtle Moves!
Looking forward to this
Thats an awesome board with the tower.
The Null field took away a lot of the cracy spells that could have happened like mind control or transpose but it worked well for the lets Play.
Instead of jumping down the tower into his death I would have tried to climb it down. Would have taken about 2-3 turns and he would have been alive
yeah but the floor below was held by Bogrim’s dastardly minions, safer to flyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaah! *splat*
You should have climbed down on the outside. The Archers couldn’t fire at you and thanks to the null field no magic. ?♂️
One of the things that I always loved about Frostgrave is that Felstad became an intersection of many dimensions in the multiverse. Meaning that “demons” are just inhabitants of a different dimensions allowing you to pull together warbands using whatever figures you want.
I’m excited to see how it all gets explored in The Red King Expansion.
I would have let the apprentice and the wizzard plus one bodyguard to pick up the treasures outside the tower because they cannot cast spells inside it and loose their main advantage.
that shows a level of thought far beyond our capacity
I see we have a fan of pitch meeting in the room. Nice t-shirt Gerry and good game.
Well played gents. Not sure what Justin was thinking showing up with unnamed models in a game like this. Almost as bad as if they were all just primed…no chance to win in that state 🙂
Really thinking about giving this game a try
Great game and a great table. I have been working on a table of my own, 3D printed terrain it is looking good so far
Merry Christmas everyone. I’m not sure how big you can make a table in TTS…
Banjo, the unsung hero of any band.
Awesome game. Need to dust off my old Frostgrave terrain. Merry Christmas.
Entertaining game. Falling thief was a little out there.
Well, I guess Banjo deserves to become the new apprentice now, doesn’t he?
This was quite interesting. Lots of twists that made for an interesting report.
Lovely game but I would have liked to have seen the reward and leveling up post game part
Completely forgot about it. I was halfway home before I remembered and left my sheet in the cage but they will get it in the future
Nice looking game. Loved the Discworld named gang, made for a very seasonal Hogfather homage. Had to laugh when Justin accused Gerry of going the whole hog, while also claiming he wasn’t a fan of Pratchett.
Good old Banjo, now to stay in keeping with the book, he’ll now have to take up residence in the tower.
A puppy is on the way
Called Spot?
darn tootin’ motherfunster
Just right for a fellah that looks like a volcano and can lift 2 men men in each fist.
By their necks!
Very nice.
Merry chirstmas all And the disc rules. Terry would be proud of his boys.
Excellent Let’s Play. I would be interested to hear what kind of treasure was found.
Great game guys. It’s always an interesting game with the Silent Tower scenario.
I’m looking forward to playing the new edition once things are back to normal.
Thanks for uploading these are so useful in learning how to play the game.
And who doesnt like discworld?!
Apparently Justin
With the damage now being based on the natural roll (plus modifiers) instead of the modified attack roll (plus modifiers) that makes armour a lot more useful and makes a lot of the dangerous monsters deal a lot less damage. This might be a good thing as previously warband members tended to perish very quickly in 1st edition. It might be too good ‘though. I think I’d need to see how it plays out over a campaign to get a feel for it.
The advancement of wizard in the unseen university is very cut throat so I am not surprised that Gerry’s warband coped so well with not casting any spells.
Better luck next time Justin.
Frostgrave seems definitely worth looking into it… Thanks for the Battle Report !
Why didn’t Gerry’s chaps outside Justin’s tower run round after his 1st treasure character. Mugging him and exiting with the loot would have been hilarious.
I didn’t think he’d forget to move him one turn so there was no way I’d reach him if he just legged it
Actually , you had the soldiers move left on the turn he jumped out of the building, and you won prio kitty on the next round so could have got him before he moved off.
Still, very generous of you to leave Justin with some scraps to pay for replacing his many lost members…
love how the terrain looks on the table. I’m going to have to get my self some of those products.
Gerry’s wind effects has to be the highlight for me. It should be a rule to act out your wizard when casting spells.
The wind spell seemed like a good plan. I like that there are combos like that.
I can’t believe after all that we don’t get to find out what the big treasure at the top of the tower was,
Brilliant, great attitude from both competitors and a fun game to watch. Thanks.
Go Justin!
.
..
…oh.. nevermind
And Jerry does ” King Lear” for his Christmas panto.
Blow winds, blow! Appropriate after I’ve just inhaled my Boxing Day sprout risotto.
nice one
Another good intro game there and you are really showing the game off
“Blow wind, Blow”!
Finally another epic battle report!!! Missed it so much…
Don’t mind us. Just passing through. Nice weather here. Blow wind, Blow!
What ah fun game, vary cinematic! Great example of the mechanics.
Hmm, never really looked much into this game before, but it sure is tempting me now that I see more of it!
doh! the pressure ive only just ordered a selection of wizard and adventurers, you made me do it…
Nice play through of the game, its made me miss playing even more though! At least this gave me a bit of a fix ?
lol VIP Banjo
I love it when warbands are formed around a theme.
That was a fun game to watch! Those modifiers sure stack up quick!
That was a load of fun,boy was Justin Banjo’d. Epic battle at top of stairs.
Just the game to play as the snow falls outside?? Umm tis summer here so game may have to wait..
A fabulous funny video Guy’s
Does the null-zone negate the -X penalty from the magical storm?
Awesome table!
Watched through this last night, must say it looks very enjoyable!
Will you be doing any more Frostgrave plays after the week has finished?
Like to see a bit more about the post/inter game phase for second edition
So many choices and options in this game. I would have played differently, but equalled or exceeded the mistakes!
Did Justin almost benefit from his melee wizard? But not quite…
Going to start his one tomorrow in front of the fire with a tall drink in hand!
I really want to try Frostgrave!
Looks like this could be worthwhile having a second look.
Played an introductory game with a guy who roflstomped me so bad it kind of put me off the game tbh.
Time to dip my toe in the water again perhaps.
I am scheming oh how to integrate this in to a D&D/Pathfinder campaign that I am planning. Current thought is The Collages of different wizard schools sending expedition to a lost city of mysterious origins. Play this when some people can’t make it to the RPG
every inch matters LOL!
Discworld for the win! My warband is more conservative 🙂
?ver=2
This game just looks too fun. I’m not one for fantasy games, but the limited model count and random encounters make it seem like such a blast.
Remind me to build a room like that somewhere in my manor.
Although, if I may… It obviously needs an open roof, for immersion purpose. You know, snow & stuff.
Really did enjoy that! Was easier for me to understand since I have recently played Shadow Deep! Great game system!
Good game guys.
Loved the playthrough. Easy to see how these rules lend themselves to cinematic moments given how you guys like to approach these games. Bravo!
Jerry’s discworld warband is a great idea.
Great stuff, I do enjoy a good battle report, especially for a game that I’ve yet to play. Lovely table as well.
That was very entertaining. The way Gerry gets in character when playing is always good for a laugh.
It’s always a tricky scenario the ol’ Silent Tower, such difficult decisions on how to use your spellcasters.
Wind, oh mighty wind. Who know how hard Gerry could blow that wind. Great use of spells. Loved the “wall from nowhere”. This was a fun scenario, even if the wandering monsters didn’t have that big of impact. Great job all, really enjoy this game!
I do like the Pratchettisms.
That is probably most demanding scenario of them all, terrain wise.
I approve of the Discworld references
Wonderful animated playthrough with two colourful wizards. Some nice miniatures too.
This looks awesome. Can’t wait to give it a shot
I would have gotten more of my friends into it. I am just now getting into and this game is amazing and tons of fun.
