It’s the XLBS Show……….Happy Sunday Fellow CoGs!
happy sunday. its warm and humid and impossible to sleep, So let’s get this show on the road
HAPPY SUNDAY!!!!!
Happy Sunday to you all hope your all enjoying the weekend. I do like that colour shift that Gerry has used for the Shell on his moonstone project. Love the shield decals. I enjoy whimsy in my gaming which is why I find warploque great fun, where else would I find a villain with a special rule for ranting, plus there’s the amazing sculpts. Lovely golden buttons well deserved. I’m afraid when I was younger it was GW games so I’m struggling to think of a vanished range or game outside my experience. I do wish I’d got into Man O War with that old style bright poppy paint look you’d see in your copy of White Dwarf but I’m not going to struggle for an alternative sea game right now. I did have a great game my friends and I enjoyed called Blood Berets, very much like GW later lost patrol I’m told, but I’m sure that that the boxed game may be gone but the company and universe is still going and I doubt it holds up as a game other than appealing to my nostalgia. Anyway hope you all have a grand day.
Good show
I particularly like @free getting passionate about boardgames and well said it was to.I was waiting for her to start mentioning Watneys Red Barrel and they don’t serve it properly here……
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday!
Doug the flaccid and flatulent?
Cant think of any ranges I woukd want back. Maybe Epic?. I was going to say Warmaster but other companies do them so much better now. It would be nice to see Renegade Miniatures back but not sure if there still in hiatus or gone for good
Yay it’s the disco XLBS SHOW.
Happy Sunday!
I suppose it’s only clinically dead, but I do miss Dropzone Commander. Imagine the Dropfleet Kickstarter never happened, and Hawk Wargames would have kept developing Dropzone, moving the story line forward, perhaps introducing few new factions and only did a minor refresh to the 1st edition rules. It could be one of the top sci-fi games around now.
Wow, Free’s dazzling dancing disco digits was a helluva shock to my system first thing on a Sunday morning without my first coffee hit.
Well done you Golden Button winners and way to go team on showing your passion for not just new things (like Moonstone) but also nostalgic shout-outs to some of the things we all miss. New is not always improved.
None of us were ready for that.
I can’t stop laughing. Perfect suprise editing from Lloydy there!
Frits, is Jason an his coat of many colours.
Happy Sunday CoGs!
Netrunner would be a great shout but sadly it’ll never happen. The Netrunner license is held by WOTC, they had no success with it as a CCG so the a few years later it was taken out cheaply by FFG who rewrote how the game played and released the LCG. They made a stonking amount of money off it and when it came time to renegotiate the license WOTC asked for far more money as a % cut of sales and FFG walked away.
As for models ranges, I’d like to see Rackham’s lines come back in a proper way. I was just dipping a toe in minis around the time they went under and I couldn’t afford the Confrontation Classic KS back when that happened. Heck, I couldn’t afford a €300 pledge now! Almost every miniature I’ve seen over the years from them has been great though, so much personality. Especially as I’ve turned into someone who paints more than they play these days, it’s a miniatures line that I’d love to work through painting.
I am a massive fan of Confrontation. You dodged a bullet on the KSer as San Detour took the cash and ran. You should check out Legends of Signum and https://cadwallon.com/ 😉
You’ll need the Monty python Knight’s to take on the angry bunnys they did so well the first time they meet.
I’d like to see the Garrison Miniatures Sword and Sorcery range that Greenwood and Ball produced back in the late 1970s back. John Braithwaite must have been one of the best sculptors around at the time. It was system agnostic, as it started to come out before there were any specific Conan rules published, so the Fantasy Supplement in the 4th edition of the WRG Ancients rules or Chainmail would have been the only rules available.
Some of the pre-slotta Citadel stuff was pretty nice as well.
Happy Sunday!
Ranges to come back well were to start! From way way back in 1980 I’d love to have the Viking Miniatures range back again! Proper old school 25mm Vikings, Anglo-Danes, Norman and First Crusade minis. They were the first range that had a wide range of poses for the core troops, at least 5 different Anglo-Dane Huscarl models for example, and all of the minis had open hands with multiple variations of spears, axes and swords! So every army could be made differently. My first ever army was the Anglo Danes, and the 150 figure complete army cost me £24.00 including postage! I still find some of them knocking about on ebay and at bring and buys now and then but I would love to be able to complete all the armies and wish they had been around to do the promised Arabs, Scots and Welsh too!
From a little later but not by much, the original Citadel Minis Fantasy Tribes collections, Dwarves, Great and lesser Gnolls/Goblins, Hobgoblins, Orcs and Undead. I still have a fair few FTD Dwarves and a few Gnolls/Goblins to paint up (which will go on my project eventually, Promise!) Satanic Panic Minis have done some modern takes of the Gnolls/Goblins and Hobgoblins and will hopefully get around to the Orcs and Dwarves at sometime, but I would still like the originals back! I could go on but thats what happens after 40+ years of the hobby!
Totally agree with Free about Robo Rally, 1st Ed was Supreme! Spent many hilarious drunken hours doing the RR twist and still messing everything up! The later editions just lost the plot imo! The old saying really comes to mind for many later edition games “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”!
They are not popular because your not ment to mention fight club?!?
Jerry’s plastic sheets are made by Wills a company own by Peco and is make for model railways at a scale of 4mm to the foot most model railways stockist should stock it three is around 30 different types
Nice one guy’s.
That image … 😀
Close your eyes … it’s better not to look ’cause it will melt your face.
What’s in there ?
Justin’s blanket v2 ?
Warzan’s favourite gaming mat or loin cloth used as a [insert your own filth thoughts] ?
I must admit that I liked the concept of ‘regiments of reknown’, but at the same time I dislike it when a game ‘forces’ you to field specific characters (especially once you get to the tournament level).
I’d rather have a system that would allow for players to design their own ‘region of reknown’, maybe as a result of a campaign system or similar mechanics.
Christmas scenario during a heatwave – almost as daft as the cooked breakfast I just had during a heatwave, or yesterday’s cutting down trees during a heatwave I did yesterday.
tl;dr I am an idiot
Also it’s getting harder not to drop money on those Moonstone gnomes.
Happy Sunday.
I’m so much happier with the newer caster for the Moonstone miniatures. I got the starter set early last year and two miniatures were so miscast that I had to get two replacements sent. Also @avernos take a look at the back legs of Doug the Flatulent’s pug, that goat is not the only model with balls.
As for games I wish they’d bring back:
Dragon Masters – A board game produced by GW back in the early 90s and designed by Ian Livingston. It uses some of the pieces from Mighty Empires.
Fighting Fantasy books – with the original art and not the modern rubbish that they are using now. (Maybe a bit harsh but it’s not to my tastes).
Yep, the Old World with some of the older models and in METAL. I’m at least pretty sure they have a lot of those old moulds around somewhere.
Spacehulk. A great game but for some reason GW doesn’t like it being on sale for too long.
The old Confrontation miniatures. They were amazing.
Board games I’d like to republished would include most of Metagaming Concepts Microgames. Steve Jackson games has picked up some, Ogre, GEV, Melee, Wizard, and The Fantasy Trip. But I’d like to see Chitin, Warp War and Olympia come back.
There’s a whole slew of Avalon Hill games that I’d like to see come back too, Panzer Blitz, Panzer Leader, The Russian Campaign and Wooden Ships & Iron Men.
As for miniatures games, I’d like to go back to 1st Edition of Wild West Exodus as the 2nd edition rules are terrible. Maybe it’ll get a 3rd edition and they’ll correct 2nd Edition. Unlikely, but one can hope.
I add m of course thrilled that MERCS is back as I’ve been playing the new edition of the rules and having great fun giving demos and successfully recruiting new players.
I also recently reopened my boxed Home Raiders Kickstarter and now want to actually assemble and paint them. Hopefully TTCombat will start production again.
Great show and wow games I loved and would like to see back
Legends of the West, a wonderful western miniatures game
Warzone and Mutant Chronicles with the original rules and miniatures
Luther Arkwright RPG
Gangster for Fantasy Unlimited
Warhammer Ancient Battle and Warhammer ECW
Warhammer Fantasy Battle
Warhammer Rouge Trader

The Game I would love to see brought back, and maybe revamped is ‘Sorcerers Cave’. I spent many a happy hour with friends dungeon delving having taken over the living room floor….. This is the game that paved the way to me getting my first D&D basic box set.
Happy Sunday…
I loved the game Chronopia. First it was produced by Target Games and then Excelsior Entertainment. My faction was the Stygians which were an aesthetic mix of ancient Egypt and Aztecs designs onto lizard people. I remember the game had a cool fog of war component where units would remain hidden until they got into line of sight. You would write what unit it was on the back of a card and then place the card on the board and move it until the unit was revealed. Some leaders allowed you to place blank cards on the board. So your opponent might literally be chasing nothing. Good times…
If someone could get Dark Age away from CMON and resurrect it I’d throw money at them. Also glad to see MERCS returning. I always liked the rules set and the figures.
Also, Free is 100% right about most boardgames getting downgraded with new editions. Corners are always cut and one part suffers to improve another.
I still have a couple of world of darkness minis but they are FBI agents. So the most boring world of darkness minis I could have ended up with
These episodes always get me right in the nostalgia!
I played Squats in 40K, Sons of Horus in Space Marine, Kislev and Araby in Warmaster, Dogs of War, Norse and Chaos Dwarves in Warhammer and Adeptus Mechanicus in Battle Fleet Gothic. But the game that always does me in is Mordheim. I’m seeing a pattern and I’m wondering if I’m the kiss of death for GW games and factions. Having said that, I’d pay handsomely to have them all back. They wouldn’t need to bring them back ‘new and improved’, just release everything and my friends and I’ll do the rest.
I would love to see the old Melnibonian(Elric) line from Citadel Miniatures be remade. LOved those models. Takes me back to when i was first getting into collecting and painting minis.
Thanks for putting my project on the Eighty Years’ War in the spotlight!
Yes, beautiful army you made there: bravo! I’ve always been thinking about doing an 80 years war army. Seeing what it could look like (who am I kidding!), I’m severely tempted!
Thanks for the compliment!
My advice: just buy a few miniatures you like and paint them. 🙂
I’ve started this army as a collect and paint project to put in a display cabinet. It doesn’t have to be a complete army following a ruleset.
Great discussion topic, just when I thought you were running out. I’d like to see the narrative Warhammer Fantasy Battle campaigns like Terror of the Lichemaster back again. The idea of having a narrative campaign with a linked series of specialist models is now seen in such popular releases as the Warhammer Quest series. Still can’t beat the old stuff though, Tragedy of McDeath anyone?
Bring back the Old World! That’s what I’d like. Other than that, I do miss Anima Tactics. Their sculpts were amazing.
watching you guys rant about the good old days for half the show makes me very happy to be a COG ?
I found it interesting to hear that Mansions of Madness v2 is worse off for the app. My experience of v1 was that setup was complex and confusing, compounded by the need to keep information secret.
That meant that other players could not really help the monster player with much of it. We had at least one game ruined because a card had been put into a stack in the wrong order making the scenario impossible.
So I had thought the app would be great for removing all that and just letting you get into the game. Because the actual game was fun.
I actually have an in the box Malakai Makkison Goblin Hewer from Warhammer. Someday, someday, I’ll get around to it. :p
