If it wasn’t for the Morale checks and tougher armor on both the Abrams and the Leopards (needing 6s to destroy them at over 16″) I’d say the T-72s were the best. 😉
It would be hard to create scenarios that gave justice to the reality of the battlefield where NATO and Russia faced each other (on a large scale).
Soviets. A look at my blog would tell you that 😉
I like that I can go tank heavy in a single formation; A Tank Battalion with a Motor Rifle Company. That formation can lay down a lot of fire and can just overwhelm the opposition in infantry assaults.
Lately though I’ve been running with two smaller formations; A Tank Battalion of three smaller Companies and a Motor Rifle Battalion of two Companies. This gives me some good manoeuvre options but can be a bit squishy. The ‘One Big Formation’ can be the Red Steamroller but can suffer against salvo fire.

She is well thank you. Her bootcamp force has expanded into a tank heavy US combat team.

This I think is a tough question to answer, all have positive an negatives. I don’t think any one faction could be said to be the best. This falls to what you as the player likes, for me – us, I love the camo an above all else the a-10 hog!
Top, top week. You sure you cant expand it for another. Soviets for me have this one in the bag.

That is a hard one, I have looked them over and its all about dice rolls if u roll hot any one of them is good so, I think it come down to look and how you want to paint them, I would like to do NATO winter camo because “Winter is coming” or even desert camo for the Russians.
I would probably pick the Germans as an introductory choice.
I heard a story from some lads in 14/20th Hussars that they were surrounded by Iraqi tanks during the gulf. They all thought their number was up, the Iraqi tanks, all eight of them opened fire and nothing happened, the Brits in the tank realised that the rounds were literally bouncing off them, they said they in hysterical laughter. Then slowly they took each tank out one by one.
Iraqis had locally produced ammo, not the good Russian produced ammo. That’s the reason GW1 and GW2 were so lop sided.

I think they are all well balanced forces but I have to favour the Germans just baca use their kit is so good. Can’t wait to see how the British look. Great series guys.

I love the small scout elements with 2 armoured personel carriers and just three stands of infantry…just sooo tiny compared to some of the large infantry platoons I use in FOW!

It has to be the Soviets. Head down, move forward, Hinds redeploying, T-72’s providing cover. Plus theres LOADS of them!!!!! 🙂
I most enjoy the glass cannon – or really elite – style for me – so I guess it’s Germans. Except they don’t get A10s.
For me this game isn’t about playstyle – it’s about A10s or Hinds. Shortly it’ll be about Challenger, too.

Damn you beasts of war, just convinced my wife I need to buy ww2 tanks now I need to convince her I need team Yankee as well, great week of videos!
At the beginning I was a bit disapointed that the Sovjets ended as a mass or Horde Army as in FoW-WW2.
But at the moment I can’t decide which faction I want to play first – so I bought all three…
I do love my Leopard 1 but if I have to choose I would prefer the Soviets. Their tec is easy to build and to maintain, it is present in raw numbers and in case of a T-72 you need less soldiers to operate it. I think the manual Loader is a disadvantage in every western tank.

Before the West Germans were shown I’d go for the Soviets. I go mainly for aesthetics when picking factions, and now I definitely want to go for the West Germans. Not only that, but I also look forward to the highly elite nature of the West German army in the game. For tactics, I would try and deploy asymmetrically to take on one portion of the opponents force first, before swinging around and taking on the rest.
British are best faction. I’ll quite happily play Germans if you give me a starter bundle though 😉
I love the looks of the Leapord and in game I would prob play the Germans but with the A10 and Cobra and the later Abrams and Apache well i gotta go with the good ol USA.
First I was the ww2 guy, then 40k guy. Is it time for a Yankee guy?

I’d have to play more games to judge.
Dont know properly but im with the usa, sometimes new releases has the hype and overpowered rules so they are new and coolest than previous ones, despite that i choose usa as nailed!
I’ve always played the elite expensive (points wise) armies, that require thought and strategy, and each unit lost is a major blow. the scalpel team. that’s my favourite playstyle, so, Germany, obviously
I will vote for Soviets. They get so much stuff it can be overwhelming for the opponent. Also, they can use their points to become more versatile with their choices. With the Soviets it feels more like “Oh, I still have more points left? What else do I want to add to my force?” For the USA it is more like “I only have this many points left? But I want these three units and I only have enough points to choose one.”
Until they release the Canadian Ubermensch, I will have to side with the Yankees and their gear. I don’t understand the dislike for the Abrams tank, and I prefer the American attack helicopters. Also years of Hollywood has convinced me of their superiority.
I hope some of the 2nd echelon Soviet gear gets added. Would love to see some T62s for NATO to tear through!

Tactics wise it has to be the Soviets. The cinematics of a horde of T-72 tanks swarming out of the countryside into a cityscape, out shooting and overwhelming a small, albeit mobile, defence from NATO nations; has war movie gold written all over it. Even better if you throw a Hind or 3 in there too. However, the thought of that same small force of West Germans deploying on the flanks, splitting fire and being back up by their own helis and fast jets, systematically destroying targets… It’s too close to call. I do like the T-72 tank though. Even if Leopard 2 technically outclasses in most areas… Soviets! Just for the fun of mass assault!

Leapards are looking good. However spent a ton of money on Russians. So may have to wait a bit to get the new release. Then again we all say that don’t we? I’ll probably have them by next week.

Hey great week guys. I would say that all the factions have good tactics. The Americans and W. Germans have great mobility with their tanks as well as overall good long range gunnery, particularly the Americans with the ITV’s with hammerhead turrets and the 109’s with the copperhead rounds really allow them to take away the soviet numbers. The Soviets clearly have the advantage with numbers and an edge with morale. As a Soviet player I’m going to focus my force on fewer units with more models, particularly tanks and anti-air units. Though I’m very interested in taking an air landing company in a big unit of Hinds, giving me a highly mobile firefighter unit that can put a tough roadblock upfield on the table.

Been a great week. Russians have some scary numbers, but the west Germans are so cool. Would be nice to see a battle report of the Germans vs Afgansty.
Just been travelling around Northern Germany last week, noting the terrain as I went 🙂

I just love the look of the West Germans and that alone would determine my army choice. However, it will all come down to having the tactics that work to your strengths and can exploit the enemy’s weaknesses.
Have to say the Russians, lots of armor, lots of shots, you can take one down, five more will replace it.
I play Orks in 40K. I would like to try a more elite army in other game systems. No Soviets please, even though I like a lot of their equipment.
I am not a fan of the Abrams tank. I don’t hate it, I just don’t really like it either. I do like the Cobra and A-10, though.
I’d probably have to choose the East Germans out of the factions presently available.
This brings back fond memories of playing my GHQ West Germans in the mid-eighties. I’m really liking the stream-lined TY rules.
I think we are going to have wait for the British show up before we can say who’ll come out on top. Of course my personal vote is for the Canadians. That recce Lynx is unbeatable 😉

,The Yanks, were well tooled up but the grunt were really poorly disciplined lazy and sloppy and so unfit, GERMANS..well trained great kit but small force, Russians: good points loads of them, Bad points: conscripts most of there troops were just thrown in after training basically they were just fodder and most of them didnt want to be there. No1 THE BRITISH: an all Volunteer force, okay the kit wasn’t the best but the training was, good old trusty SLR that would just stop you dead, not like the old Yankee M16 5.56mm no no…you need 7.62mm, had nice hole on the way in and a bloody great cavity on the way out…lol no such thing as hiding behind cover..lol, brick wall no no get a GPMG going on that and it will come down.
Germain are a cool, but i’ll wait to see french and england 🙂
Really looking forwards to how FOW take Team Yankee; felt like the Vietnam and Great War supplements were just that, supplements.. TY feels like a whole new game almost! FOW PLEASE EXPAND TY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!
The Germans have the best tactics. they have the best tanks and a lot more options for support than anyone else.
US, even more so if they ever release some USMC units 🙂
