Flames of War FTW: How To Stop Tanks With Minefields & More!
October 24, 2014 by warzan
We're back with more from Flames of War For The Win! In this episode the guys get to grips with all the different obstacles you forces may run into and in turn how to use them against your enemies like Minefields and lots more.

The table looks great!
Need more FOW FTW in my life
Another super vid in the ‘for the win’ series, thank you.
I play North Africa theatre, so tanks are very important here too. Lots of open spaces, so using minefields and the like to channel enemy forces is a good way to lure them into areas of the board where my anti tank guns can expect to get side shots really helps.
My fav army is actually the Italian Bersaglieri. Good quality troops with a variety of weapons, in big units. A combined armed force that opponents often think – they’re only Italians, how many reverse gears do the tanks have? And then they get ambushed by the Italian version of the 88.
Always fun.
Russian t-34 spam never gets old.
I can see sales of King Tigers going up… 🙂
And glider infantry 🙂
Another cracking episode – Warren & Dave make it fun and informative to watch. Well done guys!
I never thought mine fields would be a viable option for my army now I must get some
“That is nasty” hur hur hur
You can never have too much Dave.
I can’t lie.. what made me watch this video was the flying saucer hovering over the battlefield!
How to stop a Tank advance? throw more Tanks in 😉
I like my Russian Peredovoye Otryad from Red Bear because i have booth many Tanks and a good bunch of infantry. Sure the Russians will have many looses, but there is always a objektive or a part of the front which you can assault or breach in, so you will have to live with many looses but when you crush your enemy under the tracks and boots of your army its always a good feeling. btw against all the nice kitty tanks (Tigers, Panthers, Kingtigers) i have my trusty su 100s and some other nice toys 🙂
We want more FOW FTW 😀
I loooove this show! It’s what got me into collecting FoW! I just need more people to play with!
Super interesting! Super helpful guys especially as im making a list for Nuts Glider Rifles! XD
Pioneers sound complicated.
I would take them as a back up though, with flamers ofcourse.
Great video, makes me look at pioneer platoons in a whole new light. Warren, have you ever considered doing a know your enemy for other game systems?
YEAY its back again, Sorted my weekend now making tank traps and barbed wire lol
I hope you guys do more videos for FoW in the Future. 🙂
watching this has made me realize what a guards armored company lacks, royal engineers! ah well more tanks! tread head is about right for me. 😛
more!
Play on that board! Please?
The more I hear about this game, the more it sounds like it should be my new substitute for 40k as a large scale skirmish game 😀
Nice!
With all this new techniques – is there a bat rep coming?
Very nice love the Flames of War series videos you do. just one question where did you get the buildings from that i can see on table?
I love this game even though I have only been able to play a few demo games. I just can not find any interest here in Houston.
Great vid, how about a battle report or better still a live game on that table.
Nice video. I did not think that engineers would be so interesting.
It’s good to see that players have ways to stuff up their enemy tactics.
Nice to know that Pioneer Support Trucks give you minefields. I play russian engineers and always wondered why theese trucks are so expensive just for the rerolls. Nice episide btw ^^
Good stuff there. Enjoyed Tim’s explanation of his use of combined arms and how important it is in late war.
What on earth am I saying? I’m a slumming RPG’er. What have you done to me? 😎
Hurrah for the CRE!
Enjoying these feature videos, but looking forward to seeing more demo games and/or battle reports.
Really great video, fun to watch and really informative. Would really like to see more armies have access to fixed defenses such as these, rather than specific lists and fortified companies. Can you guys do a video on bunkers and entrenchments to complement this, especially with their importance in both FOW Vietnam and Great War?
Great vid guys. That T-34 list sounds pretty scary! I’m really liking these know your enemy segments, keep them coming 😀
This was good…carry on.
Great show as always.
I have been guilty of overlooking engineers in my lists. Now I see how much more tactically useful they are , they probably will get more table time!
Thanks for making FoW more enjoyable for everyone!
Really nice looking table; would love to see a battle played on it. I’ve only really got a passing interest in FoW, and I’m more interested in the relatively neglected Early War period than Late, but this video made the game look more interesting to me. I really ought to get a demo…
Really want to get into Flames of War. Love the videos
Ooh I want that starter!!
I just have to make time to field my Germans now. So looking forward to some serious batreps fellas, I think that will be enough to push me over the edge ;0)
So cheesy
I love FoW FTW. I just can’t get enough.
I love this series! You made me play the game.
Great Table, but I think the Hobby Lab for how to make the roads is still not out yet, right?
Dave, love you mate, you make these ‘lessons’ fun and informative… but please will you read up on the rules first, all of these pop up messages are just plain annoying 🙁
I disagree. The FoW ruleset – especially the part for obstacles – is rather complex. To get these right to the letter in a what I presume is a one take video would be rather challenging. I think the pop ups are quite ok for this format. The only other way would be to script the entire episode upfront and record it in several takes, which would at least double the work that goes into it. And that would mean we get only half the amount of episodes per season.
Surprised Dave did not have a couple of Firefly’s to shoot those Tigers in the side for extra effect :).
Another stunning table layout, guys!
Another very informative episode. Obstacles are one tricky bit in FoW, but if you use them correctly they can change the outcomes of a lot of games. But yeah we need to see all of this in action.
I think a very tactical match in La Rochelle (??) with all those little techniques and another slug fest with artillery and smoke on the ice table is just what “The Doctor” ordered.
David can you learn fow tocme to?
These mat terrain tables look great at 15mm.
Love the saucer. Always a nice show. This game intrigues me a lot.
it’s always hard to prepare for every strategy!!!
like these rules
flames of war FTW!!!!
That table looks great! And that’s what made me watch the video! ^^ But it was very interesting and I wouldn’t mind watching more of fow ftw!
Why is there a martian walker on table?
arh comrade the T34’s have come up against a mine field,……..so just drive over it we have more to spare ……..lol
How opposed can two ‘Know your enemy’s get? I’d like to see a battle report between these two guys. Tactics galore vs. steamrolling Russians.
Would be some great reports from some of those great players at the GT. Lots of depth and planning. The other thing would be to here them fight their old army (most talk about having a previous and completely different army or armies) and see how these players have changed their style or emphasis comparing the two.
I’ve just cottoned on to this latest tranche of videos for Flames – they are SUPER-SUPER USEFUL!
Thanks, Chaps!
Table looks great guys, Thanks for the Videos, as a FoW Newbie they are a real help in understanding the finer points of the rules 🙂
