Yup Just put it up for discussion. The writer studied under John  Keegan at Sandhurst so I presume he knows his military history. Of course it’s all open to opinion as well and I can see where he is coming from in regards to not needing to change history for the sake of a  the film as the history is usually more than interesting enough.
