Like many others on the thread, I stopped 40k largely because of the cost and just not enjoying the game.
Like @collins I left x-wing because I had to buy ships I would never play just to get cards and the power creep was horrendous. If I didn’t buy every new wave of ships you didn’t stand a chance at tournaments. For a while I just played casually with friends, we even did a campaign for a few months, but the venue we played at closed down and games just dried up. I sold all my ships but I have to admit I bought a load back very cheaply when all the dummy-spitting about the new edition happened. I like what I’m hearing about 2nd edition, really really hoping it levels out the playing field a bit because I miss the game. When I sit and think about it, x-wing might be my favourite game I’ve ever played.
The only other game I actively walked away from was Dust. I loved the world but 1947 not having a distributor for the UK or any support for the game whatsoever made it tough to try and encourage people to get into the game. The final straw was seeing people within the company bitching about UK players on FB. I know there was a lot of animosity between them and some players here but to see staff dismiss all the UK players as entitled assholes and saying “if you want to play, fly to Poland” was gross.
