I find myself agreeing with you @phaidknott I have never played the Germans in a WW2 game not only on a personal morale but also  I find them a bit boring. Much prefer French or Belgian or early British

 

Same with Romans ,at least 1/2nd century AD ones. Much prefer Parthians etc

 

For modern gaming 2nd line Eastern Bloc is the way to go

 

I think some gamers are always going to lean towards the Uber armies
