Indeed, and awareness of realism (or lack of it) in a historical period set of rules, comes from research/reading? Isn’t that the best way to assess if a set of rules matches a persons perception of realism. We have to have a baseline upon which to base such assumptions.

You are correct, there is no one right way of playing in general, but there is one right way of playing for the individual.
